MISSION STATEMENT: Blessed Trinity Catholic Church Stewardship Community recognizes Jesus is Lord. We believe that

our Time, Talent and Treasure are gifts from God to be used for the spiritual, educational and social needs of

our community, the Diocese and the world at large, especially the poor.

STEWARDSHIP BY THE BOOK

The words of the psalmist echo the theme of all of today’s readings. “Blessed are they who hope in the

Lord.” As good stewards, firmly grounded in that hope, may we bear fruit in due season—assisting the

poor, feeding the hungry, and consoling the sorrowful whenever we have the chance.

Today’s readings speak of an essential quality for the Christian steward — hope. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “Hope is the theological virtue by which we desire the kingdom of heaven and eternal life as our happiness, placing our trust in Christ’s promises and relying not on our own strength but on the help of the grace of the Holy Spirit (CCC 1817).” In many ways this is the very definition of a stewardship way of life — focusing on eternity as we live our daily lives and relying on God to provide for our needs and satisfy our deepest longings for meaning and happiness right now. In today’s Gospel from Luke, Jesus describes the true richness of life that is possible for those of us who are willing to live as his hope-filled disciples. We are all familiar with this passage in which Jesus reveals the Beatitudes: blessed are the poor; they have the kingdom of God. Blessed are those now hungry because they will be satisfied. Blessed are those who weep because they will laugh. Blessed are those who are hated, excluded and insulted because they are disciples of Jesus; they will be greatly rewarded in heaven. Jesus is describing here the character of one who is living a life of hope – the life of a Christian steward whose trust is firmly rooted in God and who is focused on others and eternity. It is not always an easy life, but it is a deeply meaningful life and one that leads to eternal reward.

Book of the week: “A Good Life: Benedict’s Guide to Everyday Joy” "There is no shortage of good days," writes Annie Dillard. "It is good lives that are hard to come by." Reflecting on what makes a "good life," Robert Benson offers a warmhearted, humorous guide to enriching our lives with the wisdom of Benedict, a 6th century monk. Each chapter is shaped around a Benedictine principle: prayer, rest, community, and work, and reveals the brilliant and infinitely practical ways that Benedictine spirituality can shape our lives today. Benson is honest and wise, sharing his own failings and the constant tension that he feels between the demands of the temporal and the spiritual. For anyone who feels caught in a web of conflicting priorities, or who finds the pace of modern life more draining than fulfilling, A Good Life will come as a welcome treat for the soul.” The Blessed Trinity Gift Store Hours: Wednesday* 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month—3:30pm – 5:30pm,*10% off all regular priced items. LIGHTHOUSE CATHOLIC MEDIA

St. Teresa of Avila The Truth to Inspire Series offers children captivating dramatizations of the lives of saints and well-known Marian apparitions to teach them about the Catholic Faith. St.

Teresa of Ávila had a fiery personality as a young girl and was often distracted by the world. Despite many temptations, she grew up to be a powerful influence on the Catholic Church. Her determination to follow God’s will is an inspiring example for both the young and the old.

Pope Quote

Pope Paul VI addressed the 1st International Conference on the Charismatic Renewal in1975.

In closing, he said:

“Have we forgotten the Holy Spirit? Certainly not! We want him, we honor him, and we love him. And you with your devotion, your fervor, your wish to live in the Spirit: this should be. It ought to rejuvenate the world, give it back a spirituality, a soul, a religious thought; it ought to reopen the world’s closed lips to prayer and

open its mouth to song, to joy, to hymns, and to witnessing. It will be very fortunate for our time and for our brothers that there should be a whole generation -

your generation of young people - who shout out to the world the glory and greatness of the God of Pentecost.”

Visit BT’s charismatic prayer group every Thursday, 7-8:30pm in the Elder Care center.

Find rejuvenation & joy! Call Richard or Katy for more information at 307-9009.

SPONSOR A STUDENT IN OUR UGANDA SCHOOLS Last weekend we got 53 new sponsors at all our Masses. There were 236 students on the list. Now we only need 183 new sponsors. Thanks for sponsoring. You are giving a golden opportunity to students to build on their God given talents. Sr. Juliet and friends are outside in the portico again this week—just to give you an opportunity to take on the Catholic education of one of our students in Blessed Trinity Grade School ($205) or Trinity Catholic High School ($235) in Uganda. Thank you.

NEED A USED TRUCK A handicapped person needs a reliable used truck. Do you have one for a tax write off? Please call Colleen at the church office. Thanks.
