If you’re a watcher of Rick Steves or Doc Martin, you may have noticed an American Public Television animation at the end of the program. American Public Television, referred to as APT here at WOSU, is one of the many program distribution companies providing a variety of programs to PBS stations. WOSU TV airs up to 744 hours of programming a month. While PBS provides us with lots of great programs, there would be a few empty hours in the schedule without our additional program distributors.

Two of the program distribution companies, APT and NETA (National Educational Telecommunications Association), give PBS stations the opportunity to submit their local programs for national distribution. WOSU airs many great local programs, so it’s no surprise that several of our local documentaries have been picked up by both APT and NETA for distribution.

We were very excited this December when APT announced 63 public television stations had committed to air our new music series, Songs at the Center, which will be released for national distribution this spring. For our Columbus viewers, season two of Songs at the Center begins February 13 at 11pm. John Glenn: A Life of Service aired in over 100 PBS markets and we continue to hear from viewers nationwide about River Voices. We’re currently working on the submission process for Admiral Byrd: Forged on Ice.

We’re proud of all of our local programs and are thrilled when we’re able to share them with PBS viewers all over the country.

– Stacia Hentz TV Program Director
