The world of Lord Grantham and the inhabitants of Downton Abbey – both upstairs and down - have captured the imaginations of audiences across the world. The series, set in the fictional Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey, depicts the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the post-Edwardian era. With beautiful sets and sumptuous costumes, audiences are transported back to a different world – a society dominated by class, power and the ever complicated relationships between master and servant. Filmed on location across beautiful historic sites in England and Scotland, it is here that Downton Abbey truly comes alive, using period properties and landscapes to showcase the tradition and majesty of life in early 20th Century Britain.

Wednesday 27th August

Meet your Private luxury motorcoach and Noteworthy Elite Guide from your centrally located hotel, for a day exploring the world of Downton Abbey and a truly unique meeting with Lady Carnarvon

8.45am You will be transported to Basildon Park in your luxury coach.

Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the English countryside, as you leave London behind you for the day and travel through the rolling fields of Hampshire

Basildon Park featured in the special Christmas episode of Downton Abbey on Christmas Day 2013 and was watched by over 10 million people. The interiors of Basildon Park were used as the Crawley family’s London residence, Grantham House, and the elegant Georgian mansion was at the heart of the unfolding story as the family prepared for Rose’s coming-out ball in the capital. Basildon Park played host to all of the much loved regular characters from the show as well as Shirley MacLaine who reprised her role as Martha Levinson and Paul Giamatti who joined the cast as Cora’s playboy brother, Harold.

Lunch You will then take a short journey to a sumptuous 5* hotel where you will enjoy a delicious 3 course lunch, fit for the Crawleys!

In Conversation with the Countess of Carnarvon

After lunch you will enjoy an utterly exclusive and enchanting talk about the world of the Real Downton Abbey with the Countess of Carnarvon, chatelaine of Highclere Castle, the setting for the television series. Lady Carnarvon will be able to provide a unique

and fascinating insight into the thrilling and alluring world of Highclere Castle, and her ancestors who inspired the television series, such as Lady

Almina, the 5th Countess,the illegitimate daughter of a banking tycoon, who grew up to take charge of one of the most commanding households in Britain. This an entirely unique opportunity to learn about the true history of Downton Abbey by its captivating past.

3.30pm As the afternoon draws to a close, your luxury motorcoach will be on hand to take you on to Southampton to board your ship
