    How to use this resource

    In order to use this resource effectively, we recommend following the steps below. We tried a few

    different ways of playing the game, and through trial and error, we found this system the most

    useful. The game supplements the activities in the Year 2 KSSR textbook Phonemic Awareness

    sections. If teachers are finding difficulty with the activities provided by the book, they can cover the

    necessary language and vocabulary demands by using this simple and fun game.

    Preparation

    Step 1:

    -Choose the unit below and cut and paste the page into a word document

    Step 2:

    -Divide the number of students you have in half=the number of pages you need (for example if you

    have 30 students, you need 15 pages; 24=12 pages, etc.) since there are two cards/page

    Step 3:

    -Copy and paste the document as many times as pages needed

    Step 4:

    -Change one or two words in each card so they are not all the same (otherwise every student gets

    Bingo at the same time)

    Step 5:

    -Print the pages, cut the cards, laminate

    Introducing the game

    Step 1:

    -Write a scheudule on the board and write Bingo Game last:

    1. (Daily warm up)

    2. (Activity 1)

    3. (Activity 2)

    4. Bingo Game!

    Step 2:

    -Tell the students if they work well they can play the Bingo Game at the end of class

    Step 3:

    -Add a fun gesture to the title Bingo Game and have SS repeat

    Playing the game

    Step 1:

    -Divide SS into teams

    Step 2:

    --Draw an empty game card on the board and ask:

    How many spaces/boxes are here? (9)

    How many words are on each card? (9)

    How many boxes make Bingo? (3)

    Step 3:

    -Show how to win at Bingo by checking 3 boxes and asking, Is this Bingo?, etc.; do this a few times

    to make sure they know Bingo must be three boxes in a row diagonally, vertically, or horizontally

    Step 4:

    -Pass out the cards 1 S:1 Card; Have SS rip (9) squares from the scrap paper to make chips

    Step 5:

    -Write the following on the board:

    Bingo-Game 1

    Step 6:

    -Speak and then write a word from the list of vocabulary on the corresponding textbook page

    -Repeat

    -Repeat

    -After three words ask, Does anyone have Bingo?; check the cards and if not go back to the board

    and continue*

    *after 3 words in the first game it is likely that one S will have Bingo; make that student the winner

    and start Game 2 so they have an example of how the game is won

    Step 7:

    -Bring the winner(s) to the front of the room and check their cards by having all SS read the wordsand ask, Is this Bingo?

    -Record the winner of Game 1 by adding a star to their team

    Step 8:

    -Write the following on the board:

    Bingo-Game 2

    -Explain that it is a new game and have them clear all their cards to begin again

    -Repeat steps 6 & 7
