Background• The Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) Call

for Projects is for safety projects that reduce thenumber of fatalities and serious injuries on all publicroadways.

• Projects are limited to improvements that address thecrash types identified in the Texas Strategic HighwaySafety Plan (SHSP).

• Funds are provided for construction and operationalimprovements and can be used for both on-systemand off-system roadways.

• Applicants are encouraged to work closely with their TxDOT district office to identify locations with thehighest need for safety improvements.

Survey Background

The statistically valid survey was conducted by telephonewith adults throughout the 12-county MPA region.

A total of 1,250 interviews were conducted.

The survey was conducted in English and Spanish.

The survey questions captured the general public’s views on bicycling including frequency of bicycling, perceived barriers to bicycling and helmet use.

The survey had a 5 percent “margin of error” .
