History of Bauer media• Originates from Germany. Started with a print shop doing business cards.• Owned and ran by 5 generations of the Bauer family.• Launched in the UK in 1987 with Bella magazine, it is the third largest

publisher in the UK.• Expanded in 2008 with the purchase of Emap consumer media and Emap

radio in the UK.• This information shows that the company was not always a major contender

in the media industry, and it is a family business. When Bauer took over Emap they increased the coverage of information which helps to make a greater revenue stream, because they had more ways to make money.

to monthly premium women’s magazines. Approximately one in two Germans and 56 percent of women read a magazine from the Bauer publishing house.

This is a sample of the magazines Bauer publish. The sample has a wide range of magazines, this helps with it’s revenue stream because they cater for multiple tastes. Grazia and Heat cater to women, FHM caters to men, Kerrang caters for the rock genre of music and there are also various hobby magazines. This allows for a greater profit as it is not limited to only one type of magazine.

Media Platforms• There are three media divisions in the Bauer company. These are TV, Radio

and digital. Also uses social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

• Using this media platform allows for greater audience coverage, as magazines are no longer restricted to hard copies. This shows how adaptable the company are and how they are willing to move to new platforms to keep their business viable. With the use of social media this gives the company an advantage because information travels quicker through the internet than the news. It keeps an up to date interaction with the buyers making the buyers feel like they have a community and allowing Bauer to see which magazines are popular.

Summary• Overall the Bauer company is successful as it started out as a small

family business in Germany, to a multi national employer for the media. With a wide range of areas covered which increases revenue streams. The gaps in the market appears to be male orientated magazines.
