“Q’’ Magazine

Page 3: Bauer and Wenner Media LLC

When did “Q” magazine begin?Q was first published in October 1986, setting itself apart from much of the other music press with monthly production and higher standards of photography and printing. In the early years, the magazine was sub-titled "The modern guide to music and more". Originally it was to be called Cue (as in the sense of cueing a record, ready to play), but the name was changed so that it wouldn't be mistaken for a snooker magazine.

“Q” also thought that a single letter title would stand out more against other magazines when displayed in newsstands.

“Q” Magazine’s AwardsThe Q Awards are the UK's annual music awards run by the music magazine Q. Since they began in 1990, the Q Awards have become one of Britain's biggest and best publicised music awards. Locations for the awards ceremony include Abbey Road Studios and, more recently, The Park Lane Ballroom.

One of the more notable event of the awards was the ceremony of 2004, at which Elton John accused Madonna of cheating fans by miming on stage, after she had been nominated for a Best Live Act award.

The Q Awards are notable for including numerous awards recognising a lifetime of achievement, rather than achievements over the year in question. In recent years,

the 'lifetime' awards have usually outnumbered the 'current' awards

Did you know… “Q” Magazine created a USP for it’s magazine- on the spine of every issue there is a different message. Readers then try to work out what the message has to do with the contents of the magazine. This practise- known as the “Spine-line” has since become commonplace among British lifestyle magazines, including “Q’s” sister publication, “Empire” and the football monthly “FourFourTwo”. The most recent edition of Q that I have purchased reads “POTATO CHIPS” on the spine and I’m still reading to find out what it’s about!

GLASTONBURY- Q has a uniquely close relationship with the world’s greatest music festival that stretches back to the early 90s. Every year Q produces Glastonbury’s Official Souvenir Review live on the festival site.

“Rolling Stone” Magazine

Page 13: Bauer and Wenner Media LLC

When did Rolling Stone begin?Rolling Stone is a US-based magazine published every two weeks which is devoted to music, liberal politics, and popular culture. In 1967, Rolling Stone was founded in San Francisco, California, by Jann Wenner ‒ who is still the magazine's chief editor ‒ and music critic, Ralph J. Gleason.

The first issue carried a cover date of November 9, 1967. Rolling Stone magazine, named after the Muddy Waters song "Rollin' Stone" (1950), was initially identified with and reported on the hippie counterculture of the era.

In the very first edition of the magazine, Wenner wrote that Rolling Stone "is not just about the music, but about the things and attitudes that music

embraces." This has become the de facto motto of the magazine.

Who publishes Rolling Stone?

In 1967, Wenner and Gleason founded Rolling Stone in San Francisco. To get the magazine off the ground, Wenner borrowed $7,500 from family members and from the family of his soon-to-be wife, Jane Schindelheim. In the summer following the start of the magazine, Wenner and Schindelheim were married in a small Jewish ceremony.

Jann Simon Wenner (born January 7, 1946) is the co-founder and publisher of the music and politics biweekly Rolling Stone, as well as the current owner of Men's Journal and Us Weekly magazines. Wenner Media LLC is the official company that produces Rolling Stone

These figures show the different rates assigned by Rolling Stone magazine in 2012. These figures have very likely changed for 2013 and in taking an educated guess I would conclude that these prices would have risen significantly.
