We select books by prominent Catho-lic writers in keeping with the Magisterium of the Church. Previous topics have included conversion stories, lives of the saints, the Liturgy of the Mass, Our Blessed Mother and new evangelization efforts. Authors we have read include Scott Hahn, Edward Sri, Donna Marie Cooper O’Boyle, C.S. Lewis, Matthew Kelly, and many more. We look forward to another interesting and fun year of lively discussions. Please consider joining us! For more information, email [email protected]. Our meetings have purpose! It's as easy as "one-two-three" to join our group: ONE night per month; TWO hours per meeting; THREE objectives of each gathering (conduct business, complete a ser-vice project, enjoy social time). We also assist with a few parish activities and support local and state CDA charities. OUR NEW MEETING TIME AND LOCATION, starting September 12th: second Tuesday of each month in the Tileston RCIA Room (first floor), 6:30-8:30 p.m. Annual dues are $30. St. Mary Youth Ministry We will not meet through the summer but will resume in the fall on Wednesdays from 6:00—7:00 pm. All St. Mary Youth in grades 6—12 are invited to attend. Student Sponsors Needed The Youth Group at the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary will be taking a trip to Indianapolis, Indiana Novem-ber 16th, 17th and 18th to attend the National Catholic Youth Convention (NCYC). This trip is designed for high school aged youth who wish to deepen their faith life and enjoy the fellowship of 25,000 + other high school aged youth from around the United States. We hope to have be-tween 10 and 15 youth from our parish attend, along with 3-4 chaper-ones. The cost of the trip will be around $1,000.00 per student/chaperone. The group will use funds from the 2016 Luminary Sales, Azalea Festival parking event and an upcoming Pig Roast to help reduce the individual costs for each attendee and to help make the trip affordable for all who wish to attend. Reservations and initial deposits were due by July 1 and not all of the students’ families will be able to afford the trip even with the fundraising subsidies. Therefore, we’re asking your help in sponsoring a student for the trip. Full sponsorship is $1000 but, all contributions are welcome and appreciated.

Contact Amy Preusser: [email protected] for more information about sponsorship opportunities. Please keep the youth and chaperones who will be traveling in your prayers! 2017 – 2018 Faith Formation Registration! It’s that time of year again! It’s time to register for faith formation for the upcoming school year. We are offering classes from Kindergarten through high school. Faith formation registration will be this weekend Saturday, August 26th and Sunday, August 27th – before and after each Mass in the lower school. If this is not convenient for you, please call the Faith Formation or Youth Ministry office and we will be happy to arrange a better time for you. Upon registering, please supply a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate if you have not already done so. If you do not have a copy of your child’s baptism certificate, please contact the parish where he/she was baptized at, and they will be happy to provide you with one. August 27, 2017 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Today we celebrate Lay Ministry Sunday; a day to honor all the lay faithful who have answered their baptismal call to use their gifts in service to the parish. The Church honors and gives thanks for the faithful for being Christ's witnesses and serving the Church and the larger community. On Lay Ministry Sunday, we honor in a special way the dedication and devotion of those who serve as lay ministers and leaders in our Diocese. Today we recognize all leaders in the parish, paid and unpaid, those who serve as liturgical ministers, youth or music min-istry, members of a parish committee, principals and teachers, and those ministers who provide outreach to those in need. Please know that your faithful service is an integral part of the continued growth of the Church both locally and world-wide. In today's Gospel, Jesus asks, "Who do you say that I am?" Peter responds, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Peter's acknowledgement of Jesus as loving Savior changed his life from that day forward. The same invitation and promise is offered to each baptized person. As Pope Francis states in his Apostolic Exhorta-tion the Joy of the Gospel, "All of us are called to offer others an explicit witness to the saving love of the Lord, who despite our im-perfections offers us his closeness, his word and his strength, and gives meaning to our lives" (paragraph 121). Be assured of my continued prayers for all the lay faithful. I re-quest the maternal intercession of Mary, Mother of the Church, as a guide for each of you. May our Lord continue to bless you, those you love and all those you serve.

Sincerely in Christ, Msgr. Michael P. Shugrue Diocesan Administrator
