NEW SUMMER READING! Our library (next to Ken’s office) is overflowing with new and gently used books

waiting to be enjoyed. Some of the titles include: Ted Dekker’s “Black, Red, White”, a Christian sci-fi thriller sure to keep you up at night. Linda Hall’s “Steal Away”; a murder mystery with a unique twist-guys, this isn’t just for women! Janet Fox’s “Faithful”; a young woman’s coming of age in Yellowstone Park circa 1900. Denise Hunter’s “Surrender Bay”. Ladies, a very sweet love story based on Zephaniah 3:17.

Service Schedule for August

Fellowship 05 12 Bill & JoAnn West 19 26

We are in need of four PRE/K teachers for the upcoming school year. Do you enjoy working with our little ones? We know how busy you are and will work around your schedule. Plus, we’ll have a fun, new curriculum to share with the kids. If you would like to help out, please

see Yvonne Craycraft.

Page 5: August issue of Covenant Presbyterian Church Courier

On any given Sunday we have families, large and small (sometimes as small as one!), worshipping with us who have

never officially joined Covenant. Are you one of those families? Are you interested in taking the step to become a communicant member? If so, let me know. I would like to schedule a time

when a group can get together and talk about church membership, meet with the session, and join the church.

I have scheduled a couple of these gatherings recently, but the times never seemed to work for those interested in joining. So I thought I’d try this new approach. Let’s see who is interested and

I’ll try to schedule around your schedules! Will that work? Let me know your wishes. Thanks - Ken

A big thank you to all who helped decorate, donate, and volunteer to make 2012’s VBS another great week. The kids are having a great time and best of

all learning all about God’s love. Come and visit one day at 11:10 to

witness the finale for that day’s events!

Thank you everyone!

Please join Susan Stewart and Becky Hegwood on Sunday, August 19, as they share their recent experience with our sister Church in Colombia. Be sure to stick around after the

service as Colombian treats will be served.

Back in the early spring those in the Wednesday morning Bible study found themselves

talking healing services. Had we ever had such a service? What would it be like? I took

their thoughts to the Adult Ministry Team. Is this something we would want to try here at

CPC? The decision was, “Yes!” Not desiring to stifle the work of the Holy Spirit, let me

try to explain at least what I envision will take place on Saturday evening, August 18th, at

6:00 p.m.

This service will be designed along the same lines as other “healing” services I have

attended while on retreats. We will sing, read scripture that refers to healing, talk about

the scripture, and then invite people to express a desire for healing. But how do we define

healing? Is there a sin or shortcoming that has a person bogged down? Is there a

relationship that is not what it ought to be? Is there a sickness that weighs heavily on a

person’s mind? Is there an upcoming surgery? People will be invited to come forward

and sit with me, or an elder, share their need (in however much detail a person finds

comfortable – God knows even if we don’t share all the details). We will pray together.

Then the person will go back to his or her seat. While all of this is going on, others will

be singing or listening to soft music. The service will be closed with our participation in

Holy Communion.

Our God is an awesome God and does awesome things in our lives. The service will not

claim to be a “magic lamp” that will guarantee the results for which we pray. But it will

be a service where we ask our God to be a part of our struggle or situation, whatever it

may be. It will be a service of trust, believing God can do awesome things.

I hope you will join us. Whether you have a special need or not, I hope you will join us.

Ken
