What is the meaning of this passage for Chrisans at the turn of the first century, and what does it mean for us today? How does Christ abide in us so that we live in the light rather than walking in darkness? As we connue our exploraon of First John, we’ll consider how we might connect our Chrisan beliefs with our daily pracces of life. Good and gracious God, we want to be your people of the light in a world of darkness. Help us discern how you would have us live in a way that witnesses to your love, mercy, and grace, as shown in the life and death of your son, Jesus. Amen. WEEKEND MUSIC: "Abide With Me" text by Henry Francis Lyte (1793-1847) It is believed that Lyte wrote this text a7er he preached his final sermon and prepared to relocate due to his failing health. Reflecng on his life he recalled the challenging mo- ments and the assurance God was present. The poem was not set to music unl fourteen years later. The tune, EVENTIDE was composed in just ten minutes by William Monk (1823-1889), who was also experiencing a moment of personal sorrow. May we claim this hymn in moments we seek to abide with God.
