News Brief

We begin 10 weeks of standardization and orientation training on August 17th.

We’re thankful that Jodie and baby #3 are healthy. Due date: February 17th

Our Indonesian visa applications and supporting documents (all 55 pages!) are submitted.

Would you consider joining our prayer support team? Email us at [email protected] to be included in our brief prayer updates.

Our monthly ministry support is at 98%. We’re still $150 a month short.

Preparing to serve in

Kalimantan, Indonesia with

“The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the

LORD.” - Proverbs 21:31 (KJV)

Standardization will be followed by 2

weeks of non-technical orientation

training. The goal of orientation is to

equip Jodie and me to thrive physically,

emotionally and spiritually as a family in

a cross-cultural ministry setting.

Ultimately, even after all our training

and preparations are complete,

“safety is of the LORD” and

that’s true whether we live in

suburban America or the jungles

of Borneo. We must be faithful to carry

out the work set before us with

excellence, being “prepared against the

day of battle,” knowing that we are in

His hands, the best place we could be.

Thank you for your vital partnership as

we prepare to share Christ’s love in

isolated corners of the world.

A ugust 17th marks our first day of

standardization and orientation

training at Mission Aviation Fellowship

headquarters in Nampa, ID. This is our

final stateside training requirement as

we prepare to serve as a pilot/

mechanic family in Kalimantan,

Indonesia. Standardization

training lays the foundation for

the safety and professionalism for

which MAF is widely known, despite

the fact that we serve in some of the

most remote and technically

challenging regions in the world. As a

pilot/mechanic, I’ll attend 8 weeks of

technical training, learning MAF’s

standard operating procedures for

both flight and maintenance. In His service,

The Toews Family

We celebrate Joel’s first birthday on August 29th! He recently began crawling and wasted no time exploring his newfound freedoms. His favorite toy is now curiously whatever Connor happens to be playing with. Connor, meanwhile, has discovered that his brother’s newly acquired mobile status signals the demise of any lingering “only-child” privileges, particularly those pertaining to the toy box. That said, he does thoroughly enjoy having a sidekick, whom he affectionately refers to as “Jo-Jo.” Connor can often be found collecting acorns and rocks and saving his Duplo® towers from certain doom at the less-than-constructive hands of the aforementioned sidekick.

Move to Indonesia, begin 11 months of language school

We’re thankful to report that monthly financial support commitments have reached 98% of our ongoing ministry support goal. We’re still $150 a month short.

Our one-time, outgoing fund is at 71%. This fund covers things like standardization and orientation training, language school, and the expenses incurred during the moving process. We still need about $10,000.
