Community meeting August 4th 7:30 PM at Harbel (5807 Harford Road) Speaker: State Senator McFadden We plan to discuss the effects of house bills 12 & 13 senate bills 327 & 238 from the 2012 state legislative on our business corridors. These bills state that liquor establishments must be at least 500 ft away from a church in the 45th district. Redistricting has placed both sides of Harford Road in the 45th district and the churches that have moved into the Hamilton business district prevent any liquor license transfers within Hamilton.
Presidents Letter GO LOCAL!
I just heard that one of our long-time local businesses, Clementine Restaurant, is closing. The owners
were local people who lived just a few blocks from me. I watched them open the restaurant on Harford
Rd & later prosper as they grew to become a strong feature here our community. I have enjoyed eating
there. As they change over to solely a catering company, I wish them well. I use to walk that entire
block for businesses & shopping: stopping at Hamilton Bakery, the Dollar store, the newsstand, Hamilton
Tavern, The Green Onion & many more. I would always run into several local friends. It gave me that
small-town feel & warmth that I am a part of a wonderful community.
As I am buying various necessities for our home, or for cooking, I could go to a mall or a big box store.
Instead, I try to buy within my community. The Hamilton Mart is nearby for picking up little items. They
too are changing hands. Our Tuesday Market is a great place to get fresh produce & local goods. Many
of our local businesses are from local people living in the community. I have also been a patient at the
Hamilton Physical Therapy & the Foot Doctor on Harford Rd. Its more important to me that I support
them instead of going outside my neighborhood. Even at times if I have to pay a dollar more, which I
wouldve spent in gas money, I do so. Id rather go local then give my pennies outside my own little
nest egg. In the long-run it helps support the value of my home, my community & attracts people to
join us.
Please consider this when you go out to buy or need services. Our local businesses need our support.
They work long, hard hours just to keep their doors open. Being self-employed can be a tough,
thankless job at times. Their bosses are the entire neighborhood. Lets give them the support &
appreciation. Lets welcome new ones to our area. Go & say hello so they know we appreciate their
business. If something is wrong, bring it to the community so we can ALL sort it out. We all make up
this community.

NECOP Northeast Citizens on Patrol In Northeast Baltimore we have a district wide Citizens on Patrol program called NECOP. The reasoning behind the COP program is that regular neighborhood patrols can make criminals feel uncomfortable and drive them out of our neighborhood. Participants meet at the Northeast Police station at 1900 Argonne Drive near Morgan State and get a walkie talkie to keep them in contact with the Police and then proceed to patrol their neighborhoods in their cars. Patrols normally go out each Thursday and Friday from about 7:30 - 10:30. For anyone interested in the Citizens on Patrol program, please contact Rob at [email protected] Upcoming Traffic/Roadwork Projects DOT updates:
The reconfiguration of Frankford intersections at Hamilton Ave & Corse Ave have been postponed due to funding issues. They anticipate installation in Summer of 2015.
