Our Shedforce blog has been full of articles on thefts up and down the country, with advice on keeping our items safe. If you happened to miss any of them, here are a few tips.

• Put away tools, paddling pool and toys at the end of the day.

• Hide or cover bulky items which can’t be locked away, such as large gas barbecues and picnic benches.

• Protect the boundary and access to your garden with fences, walls and lockable gates.

• Plant shrubs or trees with spikes, spines, thorns or prickly leaves along boundaries, such as holly or golden bamboo which grows up to 3.5 meters.

• Lock up sheds and outbuildings with a quality padlock. Ensure screws are covered so a screwdriver can’t be used.

• Fit shed alarms and an automatic outside security light.

• Lock valuables together in sheds and outbuildings to prevent them being easily removed.

• Visibly and permanently mark your property with your postcode, and photograph any valuable plants or ornaments.

• Lock up ladders and secure wheelie bins, which are perfect for giving burglars a leg up into the rest of your home.
