Message from the PresidentGreetings!
If you are reading this and regularly read the club’s newsletter, I think you
will agree that it is a first class publication and keeps us all informed of
completed and upcoming activities of our chapter. Publishing a monthly
newsletter of this quality requires significant effort, talent and dedication.
Our Editors, John and Ruth Ann, deserve our thanks for and recognition of
their dedication. I think most of our members fully appreciate the job that
they do in publishing the Spinning Wheels and I suggest that you tell them
how much you appreciate their efforts at your next opportunity.
There is another way that we can show our appreciation, however. I
recently received a notice from National AACA concerning their Newsletter
Achievement Award Program. National AACA annually awards the
editor(s) of Region and Chapter newsletters that promote membership,
events and AACA in general and keep their membership informed of club
activities.

newsletter this year, but I am looking into the possibility of submitting an
application even though we have missed the deadline. If we cannot enter
this year, we should certainly keep this in mind for next year. I am sure
there are a number of very good newsletters published by the many AACA
Regions and Chapters. But, I personally feel that ours is of the highest
quality and is very professionally presented. So, I will bring this up for
discussion at the club meeting next Tuesday. See you then!

A TRIBUTE TO OUR BELOVED OSC MEMBER, DICK STROHMEIER
Sad, sad news … Our beloved former member Dick Strohmeier passed away on April 4th. For those ofus that knew him and shared so many fun times with him, this is a devastating loss to our OSC.
Dick Strohmeier was definitely one-of-kind! For those of us in ourclub that were fortunate to be in his company, we all knew howspecial he was, and were honored to be his friend. We are so verysaddened for his loss. He took us all on quite a journey with him. Hewas the best in the roles he played and when we went on old car tourswith him in his beautiful orange 1969 El Camino, he was a hoot, some of the best times in our car club adventures! Not to mention thefun he was at some of our OSC Christmas parties bringing Santa tolife in his own special way, Ho! Ho! Ho! There was never a personthat was sad or mopey around Dick, he was always so upbeat andhappy and could tell the best stories ever! Many a time on our cartours we would be “rolling” in laughter at some of the things he would say and that Dick was like a “cat withnine lives,” beating the odds with so many major surgeries and illnesses, he was amazing. Unfortunately, declining health is why he had to sell his car and no longer continue with our OSC. Yes, Dick now has hiswings and is one of those very special people we will never ever forget. We are sure he is up there nowtelling all of his funny stories with a big smile on his face!

May 4, 2019 Kernersville Spring Folly Cruise-InRuth Ann Ronchetti, Activities
This year will be the Second Old Salem Chapter Spring FollyCruise-In from 10:00 – 3:00 pm. By doing a Cruise-In, we will stillmaintain a presence at the Spring Folly with a lot less expense andwork and it will be much easier on everyone with little expense forus to put out. And … the spectators will still get to see all thosebeautiful Classics and Antique Cars!
We will have use of the parking lots from the KernersvilleChamber / Town Hall area and beyond, as needed, and we willcontinue to do our “Driving Thru the Decades” display in theChamber parking lot since that seems to be a crowd pleaser. This year we will feature cars from eachdecade, in groups. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS. Wewill need to know ahead of time so we can make up the window cards for each car participating and toassign the correct number of parking spaces we will need. We will also have use of the Farmers’ MarketShelter where we will be playing the “Oldies”!
The Kernersville Chamber has also requested that some of our Classics be parked on N. Main Streetamongst the vendors as we did last year. This was well accepted and they would like to have possibly threesets of two-three cars grouped together. It is advised that you stay with your cars for safe keeping and alsohaving several people there will give everyone some time for breaks to walk around. PLEASEVOLUNTEER FOR THIS! It really worked out well last year and it was fun interacting with the people. This also gives our Chapter good exposure to let them know about the Cruise-In going on, too.
Now … to make this all work, we will still need some volunteers to help us out. We will need some parkingpeople in the beginning and a few people to help set-up and man a table under the Farmer’s Market shelter.I will have a Sign-Up Sheet at our meeting for that, our “Decades” display, and cars to be parked on N. MainStreet. PLEASE HELP US OUT! The more hands, the easier it is on everyone volunteering!
