1 February 2017, Volume 19, Issue 2 Message from the President Greetings! It is an honor for me to represent our Old Salem Chapter as your President. A club like ours can only be successful if its members participate in the scheduled events and volunteer to help out with the tasks required to make each event run smoothly and safely. In the four years that I have been a member, I have seen nothing but enthusiastic support from our OSC membership during club events. Therefore, I am certain that 2017 will be another successful year full of our traditional events like the Spring Folly Car Show and our series of Kernersville Cruise-Ins. As she has done for years, I also anticipate that Ruth Ann will schedule some new and interesting events for us to enjoy. Here’s to a fun-filled 2017! On Jan. 21 st , I attended the North Carolina Region AACA meeting in Burlington. Several of our Old Salem Chapter members were also in attendance. The meeting was informative and enjoyable and, if you haven’t already done so, I would encourage you to attend one of them in the future. In the morning, a number of talks concerning various auto related and other topics were presented during the meeting, e.g., one member discussed the restoration of his 1955 Dodge, another member discussed current automobile markets and appraisals, another (cleverly disguised as Eleanor Roosevelt) discussed rationing during WWII. During the afternoon business meeting, our OSC founding member, Gurney Yokeley, was presented with the prestigious Circle of Honor Award. This award recognizes a Regional AACA member who has 1) enhanced the image of AACA through promoting and participating in shows, tours and other events at the Chapter, Region and National level, 2) shown leadership at these levels during an extended period of time, and 3) demonstrated willingness to help fellow club members with antique car related problems. As our OSC membership knows, Gurney was well qualified to receive this award. Those of you who have not yet had the opportunity should congratulate Gurney on receiving this well-deserved award. Another important topic discussed during the business meeting was the situation with the AACA Museum. Tom Cox, one of the Board members from National AACA, explained how we have come to the situation in which our club now finds itself with regards to the Museum. An article in the January/February issue of Antique Automobile very clearly discusses the issues from the standpoint of our club. If you haven’t already done so, I would encourage you to read that article. I will include the Museum as an item for discussion at our meeting next week and will try to answer questions you might still have. See you next Tuesday! Message from the PresidentGreetings!

It is an honor for me to represent our Old Salem Chapter as your President. A club like ours can

only be successful if its members participate in the scheduled events and volunteer to help out with

the tasks required to make each event run smoothly and safely. In the four years that I have been a

member, I have seen nothing but enthusiastic support from our OSC membership during club

events. Therefore, I am certain that 2017 will be another successful year full of our traditional

events like the Spring Folly Car Show and our series of Kernersville Cruise-Ins. As she has done

for years, I also anticipate that Ruth Ann will schedule some new and interesting events for us to

enjoy. Here’s to a fun-filled 2017!

On Jan. 21st, I attended the North Carolina Region AACA meeting in Burlington. Several of our Old

Salem Chapter members were also in attendance. The meeting was informative and enjoyable and,

if you haven’t already done so, I would encourage you to attend one of them in the future. In the

morning, a number of talks concerning various auto related and other topics were presented during

the meeting, e.g., one member discussed the restoration of his 1955 Dodge, another member

discussed current automobile markets and appraisals, another (cleverly disguised as Eleanor

Roosevelt) discussed rationing during WWII. During the afternoon business meeting, our OSC

founding member, Gurney Yokeley, was presented with the prestigious Circle of Honor Award. This

award recognizes a Regional AACA member who has 1) enhanced the image of AACA through

promoting and participating in shows, tours and other events at the Chapter, Region and National

level, 2) shown leadership at these levels during an extended period of time, and 3) demonstrated

willingness to help fellow club members with antique car related problems. As our OSC membership

knows, Gurney was well qualified to receive this award. Those of you who have not yet had the

opportunity should congratulate Gurney on receiving this well-deserved award. Another important

topic discussed during the business meeting was the situation with the AACA Museum. Tom Cox,

one of the Board members from National AACA, explained how we have come to the situation in

which our club now finds itself with regards to the Museum. An article in the January/February issue

of Antique Automobile very clearly discusses the issues from the standpoint of our club. If you

haven’t already done so, I would encourage you to read that article. I will include the Museum as an

item for discussion at our meeting next week and will try to answer questions you might still have.

See you next Tuesday!Nelson

NC Region Annual Membership MeetingRuth Ann Ronchetti, Activities

The Hornets Nest Region and the Alamance Region AACA hosted theAnnual Membership Meeting on Friday & Saturday, January 20, 21 at theRamada Inn, Burlington, NC. This is always a great time attending theinteresting seminars, great lunch, and meeting new friends. And therecan always be a surprise or two … such as … Eleanor Roosevelt (akaRandy Stone) attended this year’s meeting and gave us a nice historicallecture!

It is always nice to have our Old SalemChapter members given special recognition atthese meetings and we were fortunate to havetwo of them recognized this year. GurneyYokeley (left) was presented the Inner CircleAward for his years of service andcommitment to the AACA, over 50 years! And David Lineback (right) was given the

2016 Fred Ross Award for his 1930 Erskine, acknowledging the full frame-offrestoration in 2012 that he and his father Ed Lineback worked so hard to accomplish.

Also representing our Old Salem Chapter atthe meeting was our David Hawks who is nowthe NC Region Secretary shown in this picture “doing his job” at thetable wearing our OSC aquashirt!

Tom Cox, our now AACANational President was also in

attendance and spoke to us at length about the AACA and it’spartnership with the AACA Museum that has been under negotiationsfor several years. It was great to have him with us. A very enjoyableday!

Dog Needs a HomeFolks,

We need your help trying to place our dog REN.

Please think about all the people you know and if there is someone suitable, please put them in touch with me.

Bart Collins [[email protected]] [336-992-3643]

Thanks so very much.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Ren is 4-year old (8-14-12) Tri-colored Cavalier in good general health. His currentowners are giving him up, very regretfully because he needs a home with a single personand no other pets. We believe a person who has had experience with dogs; especiallychallenged dogs could manage him.

Little is known about his history except that he was used as a stud dog in a puppy mill inPA. He was rescued by a shelter in PA where he remained for a year until he wasplaced with his current owners. In spite his challenges, he is beloved by his currentowners and the shelter. He loves to shadow his owners and would do best in a homewhere the owner is present most of the time. He likes to cuddle- on his own terms. Healways loves to go for a ride in a car! He also loves to go for walks and would be greatin a fenced in yard.

He is perfectly house trained with no mistakes. He knows simple commands such as“Sit, “Down, and Off” and will stay on his mat while his owners eat. He is intelligentand is strongly motivated by treats.

He has been neutered and micro-chipped. Ren is a bit overweight at 24 pounds; he couldbenefit from more exercise than his current owners can provide and a fenced in yard.

Because he is anxious, Ren would do best in a quiet, low-key household with no other pets and children. He does not like otheranimals but can be managed with a lead and harness when he goes for walks. Ren is on medication for his anxiety and to manageguarding of food, possessions, and people. He loves both his parents and relates to each, but can be aggressive and guard each ofhis owners against the other. A single person would eliminate this problem but it may be necessary to be wary around children, though he has never been aggressive with children.

Ren has a history of Lyme disease though he suffers no ill effect except possible arthritis. He has learned to do steps butsometimes he hesitates a moment so a single floor home with minimal steps would be ideal. He has a slight heart murmur butneeds no medication.

If you are a single person and feel you have the right home and means to provide Ren with the love and care he needs, please fillout the online application and email ------ to let her know of your interest. The current owners would be willing to transport Rento his new owners most anywhere in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states.

Stats:

Color: Tri

Age: 4

Weight: 24 lbs

Sex: Neutered Male

Health: history of Lyme disease and mild heart murmur needing no medication

Temperament: Can be a challenge. Guards his possessions, food, and people. Dislike other animals. Can be loving as well andlikes to cuddle, but on his own terms.

Recommendations: single owner household that is calm and stable with owner home most of the time. No other pets. A fenced inyard is recommended or plenty of opportunities for plenty of exercise to control weight management.

Location: Kernersville, NC but current owners are willing to transport to any area in southeast or Mid-Atlantic States.

Region: Southern, Mid-Atlantic States

I pray, pray, pray that this works, but I am realistic. We do not want to put this beautiful animal down.

Thanks so much for your kind help.

Sincerely,

OSC Members Bart and Linda Collins
