June 2017, Friends and fellow members, Can I share something with you? As most of you know, I consider the members of ADDC to be my extended family. I have some little sisters whom I try to look out for; some older sisters who teach me the ropes; a brother or two who keep me on my toes; and more moms looking out for me than any one person deserves. It’s an extended family that I would have never dreamed possible. Like any family, we have good times, and bad times. There are those relatives you don’t see for months or years, but are always in your hearts and on your minds. There are those family members who you see every day, but tend to get on your nerves. Lately, our family has been shrinking, and pulling a part. This is something I hate, and have been pondering about for months. How do I get our family all back on the same page, and how do I get our family to grow? We all have ideas about how to do this, we just need to share them.. As you know over the past few years the Board has been issuing surveys to the membership, trying to get a better handle on how ADDC should move going forward. After Regions VII’s meeting, we will be sending out a very short survey, 3-5 questions. It will focus strictly on member recruitment and retention. If we can get our collective thoughts together, maybe we can turn the tide and return to our glory days when we had to refuse members! Now how to make our family grow? I had one thought the other day. We voted a few years ago that anyone who is interested in the energy industry can be a member. Have you asked your spouse or your significant other if they’d like to join? What about another family member? It’s no secret that many families often work in the same industry. Why not ask them? I’ve never really thought about it, until I was explaining to my husband what I was doing at a couple of the regional meetings. He has spoken at one of West Virgina’s meetings, but I never asked him if he’d like to join. How foolish on my part. Now I almost have him convinced to join. All you have to do is ask. The worst that can happen is they say no, but they might say yes. Just ask. As I write this, I’m in Grande Prairie ready to attend Region VII’s meeting. Soon we will have a list of the RD elects. These are some of the leaders for 2018. Nominations are still open for the 2018 officers, so if you have thought about holding an office in the Association, you still have a few days to get your forms submitted. Thank you for becoming my extended family. Until next month,

A special thank you to all who planned, prepared, assisted, attended, participated, and

sent good thoughts toward the Region I meeting in Niagara Falls! It was a fantastic event.

Oil and water do mix – or at least it did May 18 – 21st. The energy from the falls was

nothing compared to the energy from members and guests of Region I and ADDC board

members! It was amazing!!

At this time I would like to introduce our 2018 Region I Director Elect –

Ms. Carrie Harmon from our Buckeye Club

Congratulations to Carrie! I am sure she will use the gavel well!

another event you will not want to miss.

As this year continues remember: Share your passion, your knowledge, and energy with

everyone. All of these are useless if sealed in a bottle, but extremely valuable when

released.

June 2017 Dear Region III Members: Even though the official day of summer is in June, Memorial Day weekend to me always feels like the beginning of summer. I hope everyone had a most enjoyable and wonderful Memorial Day Holiday. It is an honor for us to remember all of the fallen heroes that gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we can have the freedoms that we so much enjoy today. Since Memorial Day is a time to remember those who have died for our country, I also would like to take a moment to acknowledge all of the military personnel and their families who have served, as well as, those who are currently serving. I want to say Thank you to them for their service. If you haven’t thought about volunteering as a Region Rep before, now is the time to not put it off any longer. The ADDC website has a list of the committees and what the duties are for them. I know Carol and Christina would greatly appreciate all volunteers so they can get these committees filled as soon as possible. It is truly an educational and rewarding experience to serve in this capacity. You will gain so much by learning more about our wonderful Association and meeting other hard working members like yourself. The volunteer forms are also on the ADDC website. Convention is almost here and I am getting excited about visiting the wonderful city of San Antonio the week of September 18th through September 23rd. It is a city full of history and excellent food. I encourage you to get your registrations mailed in as soon as possible. The early deadline is August 1st. You will also want to get your hotel reservations in early at the Holiday Inn Riverwalk if you haven’t already. This convention looks to be filled with lots of educational field trips and seminars. Sheryl Minear will be hosting a free Leadership Training Seminar, as well as, our own Region III members, Lori Landry and Sarah Hulin, who will also be hosting a different free seminar. So be sure to check out all of educational opportunities in the registration packet on the ADDC website. There is no other experience like attending a convention! I hope to see a huge turnout from our Region III members this year. Happy Father’s Day to the many dads and for those who their fathers are no longer with them, I hope your memories will provide you with comfort on this day.

June 2017 Another wonderful Region IV Meeting is in the books! Congratulations to Susan (Sue) Weaver who was elected as the 2018 Region IV Director-Elect. Sue is currently serving as the 2017 President of the San Antonio Desk and Derrick Club and works for Osborn Heirs. She has been employed in the Oil and Gas industry for over 23 years. Sue is very well qualified to lead our Region IV next year. Also a big Thank You and Congratulations to the Corpus Christi Desk and Derrick Club for a fantastic Region IV Meeting! These members went above and beyond to assure all of our members and guest attending had a wonderful time from the Certification Class to the Saturday Night Banquet, what an outstanding job. A little side-note about the Corpus Christi Club – only one (1) member of this Club had ever been to a Regional Meeting and yet they made the Meeting one to remember. Thank you all again for your hard work and determination. Each of the First Place Winners will now be judged again, by three new judges, to compete for the A.I.M.E.E. Award, to be awarded at our ADDC Convention in San Antonio in September 2017. So, now is the time to start thinking about your Club’s entries for the 2018 ADDC Contest. Don’t wait until December 15, 2017 to begin gathering your entries. Start looking at your Programs, Articles, Bulletins, Field Trips and don’t forget an Industry Photograph. There was another order of business at the Regional Meeting. There were the two (2) Proposed Amendments to the Region IV Fund Resolution. These proposed amendments were as follows: 1. Amend Article I, D. by striking the words “excluding donations” between the words “overage” and “from”.

This proposed amendment was to give any overage from the Region Meetings, Town Hall Meetings and Region IV Gatherings at the annual ADDC Convention, to be forwarded to the Region IV Fund This proposed Amendment – Failed

June 2016 Page 3

2. Amend Article II by adding subsection K. This proposed amendment is a new Amendment to the Region IV Fund Resolution: K. Region IV shall establish a website. The initial cost of the host/domain

name for a period of three years shall not exceed $150.00. This cost and costs for each renewal year shall be paid by the Region Fund. The Association of Desk and Derrick Clubs’ webmaster shall set up and maintain the site at no cost to the Region.

This proposed Amendment – Passed After the passing of the Proposed Amendment number 2, the members of Region IV will now have a Region Website. The funding for the first three years, not to exceed $150 will be implemented and the webmaster will begin working on this website. So stay tuned for this exciting website. At the President’s Meeting, during the Region IV Meeting, we discussed how each club will be able to help during the 2017 ADDC Convention. As this Convention is a Region IV Convention, all volunteers will be needed. Be sure and ask your Club President how you can help with the Convention. On a sad note, Wise County Club has elected to disband as of June 30th. It was with a very heavy heart that Club President, Connie Bass, announced this at our Region IV Meeting. I hope that each member of the Wise County Club will transfer their membership to another Desk and Derrick Club. They are all very important to our Association. It is only a short four (4) months until the Convention in San Antonio. Have you gone to the ADDC Website and downloaded the Registration Packet? There are wonderful seminars, field trips and fun activities planned for all of the Members and Guest. Don’t forget to make your reservation at the hotel and send in your Registration Form! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your President or me. This year seems to be passing very quickly! It is June and nearly half of the year is already gone – had to believe, but Christmas will be here before we all know it. There is still plenty of time to act on the 3-R’s – Retain, Rejuvenate and Recruit our members. Take the leap and ask a friend to attend your next meeting; who knows that person could be a new member of your club! Hugs to all,

Evelyn

June 2017 Region VII Members I apologize for this letter being late this month. I really wanted to include information about the Region VII Meeting held last weekend in Grande Prairie. First let me say the GACs Teri Ondrik and JoAnn Weiss along with the members of the Grande Prairie Club did a great job in pulling it all together. They kept us educated, entertained and inspired throughout the weekend. The Open Forum was well attended and members brought forth their ideas and suggestions. One of the concerns, was the direction of the organization. How can we continue as we are without change? Each year we are losing more members and clubs and getting to the point where regions are having difficulty managing with fewer clubs. There are now 2 Regions who will have only 3 clubs next year. If we maintain the status quo, we can foresee the demise of our region and possible the association. One of the suggestions included changing from an annual region meeting to one every two years. This would also entail the Region Director serving a two-year term as director. The members present felt this could be a positive change and there is some research to be looked at. Does Robert’s Rules of Order allow for a two-year time frame between AGMs? Will governing bodies allow for two-year time frame? At present, our bylaws (ADDC and Region Resolution) do not allow for this but can be changed following the proper procedures. I am going to research and will advise the results. Our region is not the only one in the Association having these discussions. Along the same line, we talked about realignment of the regions, possibly reducing from seven to five. I know it has been looked at many times, but I believe clubs are now willing to see the benefit. This would help the smaller regions who are finding it tough with just 3 or 4 clubs. This would also mean cost savings to the association, which was another topic of discussion during the open forum. We cannot continue to survive with the cost overruns at the region and association levels. Suggestions and ideas were discussed, and you will be hearing more in the coming months before convention. Cuts are happening as we cannot just raise fees without looking at all aspects of the budget. It is my pleasure to introduce our 2018 Region VII Elect, Tracy Fillmore from the Alberta Foothills Club. I know Tracy will do an amazing job and she has the support of the members of Region VII. The Edmonton Club will be hosting the 2018 Region VII Meeting in Leduc County, May 24–27, 2018. Wayne Ammons, ADDC Webmaster, introduced the Region VII website to us during the Saturday business meeting. Clubs are asked to include Wayne and myself on their publications each month or whenever it is published. Also, include us on event notices and activities, monthly meeting speakers or programs, field trips, seminars, etc. as he will manage our calendar as well. In fact, copy Wayne and I on anything you think might be of interest to others in our region. The website should be live within the next two weeks. I will send an email to the clubs when that happens. I am also planning to visit each club during the month of October. I will be in touch with your Club President to make some arrangements and look forward to seeing all of you. I hope you are planning to attend the ADDC Convention in San Antonio, TX, September 19-24, 2017. The registration package is on the website and I understand one of the field trips is already full. Don’t delay getting yours in, you might miss out on something you really want to attend. Until next month….. Marilyn Marilyn Carter 2017 Region VII Director

Greetings; ADDC Board and Members; Welcome to summer. I hope this letter finds everyone doing well and looking forward to the exciting summer months ahead and the 2017 ADDC Convention in San Antonio, Texas in September. ADO has been busy processing convention registrations for those early birds who are planning ahead for a fantastic convention in San Antonio. There are great field trip, seminar, and social opportunities at the 2017 ADDC Convention. Please go onto the ADDC website or contact me at ADO and I will get you set up with a registration packet and answer any questions you may have regarding the upcoming convention. I look forward to seeing everyone in San Antonio in September. I have just returned from attending the Region IV meeting in Corpus Christi, Texas and the Region I meeting in Niagara Falls, NY. These region meetings were outstanding. I regret that I was unable to make more of the region meetings and am planning to attend more region meetings next year as I would like to experience all of the regions and their exciting plans for the organization and for their members. I know that all of the Region meetings in 2017 were fabulous based upon what I have heard from the members who were able to attend. If you were not able to attend your region meeting and or other region meetings in2017 I hope that you will strive to attend Region meetings in 2018 as you will be truly rewarded for doing so. One of the things I have been focusing on since taking the ADO Manager Position has been organizational development. I am working to maintain and increase our membership totals by attending special events etc. that have the potential to grow membership within the organization. Our clubs may help with this also, please encourage those members in your club that may have left the energy industry to maintain their ADDC membership as membership is now open to anyone who is in or interested in the energy or allied industries. If a member appears to be considering leaving the organization please encourage them to remain active by pointing out the benefits of the best energy education and networking organization within the energy industry. If you have any questions regarding this please contact me and I will be happy to discuss it with you or any of your members. Remember ADDC has a vast pool of potential members that would be ready and able to join ADDC so let’s GO GET EM!! Once again I hope everyone has a great beginning to summer and is making plans to attend convention in San Antonio this September. Stay cool and may God bless you all. Until next month let’s keep our feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars in ADDC and beyond. Sincerely; Mark Loch ADO Manager ADDC

To: ADDC Board of Directors and Members

Even though we are only beginning the 2017 year, please consider volunteering for an ADDC Committee in 2018. Most of the business of the Association is conducted by members who contribute generously of their time and effort. Serving on a committee is part of the educational experience of Desk and Derrick and will help you to grow and learn in unimaginable ways. I have never regretted being part of committee. For most committees, the time required is minimal, and business is conducted via email. Please review the attached ADDC Committee list and volunteer form and don’t be afraid to add your name to a committee that interests you. It is very important for each Region to have input by being represented on the committees. In addition, it provides a great opportunity to participate outside your club with other members of the Association. If you are really bold – how about volunteering to chair a committee. The experience is beyond rewarding. Thank you for taking the time to consider this request, and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’d love to hear from you!
