L 2 control switchesIntroductionThe traditional L 2 range of control switches are available in current ratings of 12, 16, 20, 25 amps in two frame sizes of 12/16 and 20/25 amps. The L 2 range offers a number of advantages overtraditional designs providing a high degree of compatibility with existing products, while offering awide choice of options and fixing methods. The modular design approach allows easy adaption toparticular customer requirements.Screw fixing or 22.5 mm mountingControl knobs are available with standard screw fixing (LFS) or central nut mounting requiring a single22.5 mm hole to be drilled (LFC). Both options can be supplied by selecting the correct control knob.The same switch body is used for both mounting types.IP 66 control knobsAll control knobs conform to the protection classification IP 66 and are therefore suitable for use inarduous environments.PLC compatibilityAll LE 2-12 switches are supplied with electronic compatible contacts to DIN 19240 standards forswitching of PLC inputs etc.

All terminals are accessible from the rear even with a mounted switch.

Screw fixing holes fit popular switch brands.

Product flexibilityWith the L 2 range of control switches, the switch body (switching part)is ordered separately to the control knob. This results in a great deal offlexibility in the type of operating knob and mounting possibilities.As an example, if the switch body type LE 2-12-3501 is selected, frompage 5 - 6, a choice of control knobs from page 5 - 7 is made. The standard knob LFS 2-A-4-350R is the screw fixing type. For 22.5 mmsingle hole mounting, the knob LFC 2-A-4-350R can be selected. V2N (25 amp), V3N (32 amp) range of cam switchesThe range of V2N and V3N cam switches are rated at 25 amps and 32 amps AC 21 respectively.The V2N/V3N may be used as control, instrument, motor and main switches.Cam switches are developed, constructed and tested in accordance with National and InternationalStandards, based on VDE Regulations, DIN Standards, European Standards, IEC Publications, UL and CSAStandards.

V1N, 12 amp range of cam switchesCompact and competitive. The V1N, 12 amp cam switch is available in 4 switch configurations includingOff-On, changeover, voltmeter selection and ammeter switches.

B2N, 20 amp range of cam switchesThe B2N series is available in the single rating of 20 amps AC 21 (static load) and 5.5 kW AC 23(motor load). By utilising from one to four chambers the B2N range are available in Off-On switches(2, 4 and 6 pole), changeover switches (1 to 4 pole), reversing and 2 speed switches, andammeter/voltmeter switches.

V2N and V3N switches

Industrial enclosed switch

T series enclosed industrial switchesThis very popular range of switchgear is mostly used as a local isolator, reversing and changeover switchfor motor loads and machinery. They are available in either metal clad or a strong moulded insulatedmaterial. Spare interiors are available for very frequently used installations.Available ratings are (AC 21/AC 3):- 25 amp / 8 kW

45 amp / 16 kW63 amp / 24 kW.

VN standard cam switches (from 50 to 250 amp)The conventional method of constructing a cam switch is chamber by chamber each chamber having2 contacts.

This means that by varying the number of chambers and the cams, an extremely large number of switchprogrammes can be achieved. NHP assembles this type of switch in Australia.

The VN range is available in 5 frame sizes rated as follows - AC 21/AC 23 50 amp/22 kW, 63 amp/30 kW, 115 amp/55 kW, 150 amp/75 kW and 250 amp/90 kW.

As with the B2N and V1N-V3N switches; the VN range is constructed with a steel shaft to give reliableoperation into the future. Also, the contact chambers are well sealed against the ingress of dust which can cause contact failure in other switches.

An engraved label can be added to the top of all V1N, B2N, V2N and V3N ('C' mount) switches with the useof a heading plate. Standard engraved plates are available as Main switch, Isolator, Ammeter and Voltmeteror can be engraved to suit specifications. The heading plates are a two-part kit comprising an engravedsilver plate and carrier. The carrier can be either screw mounted or applied using adhesive backing.

Specially built switches will often require specially engraved escutcheon plates that can be designed to suit anyspecification. An extensive list of common escutcheons is also available as standard, displayed on page 5 - 37.

Accessory descriptionsA list of ‘Customer fit’ accessories can be found on pages 5-34 to 5-35.The following accessories must be purchased at the time of ordering the switch.

• Spring return [R] This option returns the actuator of the switch to its former position.

Ideal for motor start or momentary switching. (V2N & V3N)

• Door interlock [TKTV] This option suits base mount switches achieving mechanical

interlocking with the door-mounted actuator. This prevents the door from opening while the

switch is in the ‘ON’ position. (Safety)

• Extension shaft [EXS] This option is suited to base mount switches allowing for mounting

within a deep enclosure.

• Weatherproof seal [WPK] This option increases the degree of protection at the front of the

switch from IP54 (standard) to IP65. This option is standard on all single hole mount switches

(C mount).

• Key actuators [Z] This option replaces the standard knob type actuator with a key,

making it ideal for authorised switching (Safety) (B2N, V2N, V3N)

• Key interlock [ZSH] This option combines the traditional knob type actuator with key

interlock. This allows a switch to be operated normally with the option to lock in the ‘OFF’

position. Ideal for authorised switching applications (Safety)

• Protective boot [PB] This option shrouds the termination points of a panel mounted switch,

preventing contact with live parts and limiting the ingress of dust and water. Degree of protection IP54.

(V1N, B2N, V2N, VN40, maximum 7 chambers. V3N, maximum 8 chambers. VN63 maximum 6 chambers).

• Extended terminals [AT] This option increases the terminal surface area,

allowing for larger cables to be terminated. (VN40-VN100)

Linked Auxiliary ContactsOne of the most common accessories to be fitted to any switchgear product are auxiliary contacts. In most cases, the addition of anauxiliary contact is straightforward however, with a cam switch auxiliary, switching can become extremely complex. Because of thecomplexity, the auxiliary contacts need to be ordered as an NHP Fitted option.

For all base mounted optioned switches,auxiliaries are obtained by using contactsidentical to the main switch. On panel mountedoptions, the auxiliary contacts may be smallerthan the main switch. When ordering auxiliarycontacts please remember, two contacts can befitted per chamber. Also, gold contacts areavailable for fitting on V2N (25A) switches toallow low voltage switching (such as PLCinputs).

Step 8 If purchasing escutcheon only, select the plate size.

Step 9 Fill in the header plate details as required.

Step 10 Note there are two clock-face diagrams. Plate A diagram should be filled in when ordering a switch that would operate at 30° or 60° switching angles. Plate B diagram should be filled in when ordering a switch that would operate at 45° or 90°. The number of squares alongside each position on the clock-face represents one character. This is a guide based on the recommended font size. For other options including font size variation or symbols refer NHP.

Step 11 Shade in the squares under the switching positions to indicate which contacts are to be closed at that position.

Example A Contacts between terminals 1 and 2 are open in switching position 1 (OFF).

Example B Contacts between terminals 3 and 4 are closed in position 3 and remain closed when switch is turned to position 4.

Example C Terminals 2, 4 and 6 are bridged.

Example D Contacts between terminals 7 and 8 are closed in switching position 2 (ON). When actuator is released, it springs back to switching position 1 (OFF).

Example E Contacts between terminals 9 and 10 are closed in switching position 1. As the switch is turned from switching position 1 to switching position 2 the contacts between terminals 11 and 12 also close. At this point our second circuit makes before our first circuit breaks. When the switch reaches switching position 2, contacts between terminals 9 and 10 open. This is referred to as ‘Make before break’ or ‘overlapping contacts’.

Automatic restart of a machine can cause a dangerous situation, either with damage to the machine, workin progress or to the operator of the machinery. The automatic start-up of machinery after a power failure,and subsequent restoration of power, can be safely avoided.

The Elektra S-series main switch has an undervoltage release facility. In the instance of a power failure theundervoltage release coil returns the switch to the OFF position, thereby preventing automatic start-up ofmachinery on restoration of the power supply.

Elektra Foot switches

Elektra FD series foot switches have been developed for high mechanical and electrical endurance.Foot switches are used in many industrial applications including process machines, CNC machines,cranes and lathes, whenever hands-free operation is required.

Elektra foot switches employ two switching concepts:Latched (progressive) switching: When the pedal is pressed, switching contacts close and remain closedwhen the pedal is released. When the pedal is pressed again, the contacts re-open.Momentary switching: When the pedal is pressed, switching contacts close so long as the pedal ispressed. When the pedal is released the contacts open again.

Elektra foot switches are available with a standard flat cover, a high cover or with asafety cover.Flat cover: This is supplied on foot switches with a maximum of 2 contacts (1 chamber).For example 1 NO + 1 NC or 2 pole on-off switches in either ‘latched’ or ‘momentary’ switching.

High cover: This is supplied on foot switches with a maximum of 8 contacts (4 chambers),possible in ‘latched’ or ‘momentary’ switching as control and motor switches.

Safety cover: This optional version protects against unintentional operation by falling objects.The safety cover is available on foot switches with a maximum of 8 contacts (4 chambers).

Display windowAll foot switches are available with or without a viewing window.The viewing window provides indication of the switch position.

Pedal lockAll single pedal foot switches, with or without safety cover, can be fitted with a pedal lock.This feature requires a foot to fully cover the pedal to allow the pedal to be operated.

Elektra Foot switchesOne pedal - safety foot switchOperational sequence

1. With pedal (A) in the upper position, the contacts are open, the machine will not operate.

2. When pedal (A) is pushed down, contact point (B) is reached. With the contacts closed the machine is now operating.

3. In case of danger or emergency, the pedal can be pushed beyond the standard operational point of the pedal. With this, the contacts open and the machine immediately stops. The contacts of the foot switch are locked-out preventing the machine fromstarting again.

4. The lock-out is manually controlled through the turn knob (C). By turning the knob the lock-out releases, returning the foot switch to its normal state.
