What is ADDIE?
• The ADDIE model consists of five steps, or phases: 1. Analysis, 2. Design, 3. Development, 4. Implementation, and 5. Evaluation
• It is a strategic plan for course design and may serve as a blueprint to design assignments and various other instructional activities.
ANALYSIS
• In the analysis phase:– The instructional problem is identified along with
learner characteristics; – Figure out what you want the learners to learn, and
how will you define instructional goals and learning objectives.
– This step will provide you with a blueprint for the whole identification process and guide you in the following phases.
– In the analysis phase, a timeline may be established to complete the instructional module.
ANALYSIS
• Used for pre-planning and thinking about the course • Make sure you establish:
– Audience– Goal– Objectives– Identify content– Identify Environment and Delivery– Instructional Strategies– Assessment Strategies– Formative Evaluation– Constraints
DESIGN
• The second step is design:– Learning activities and assessment are determined– Start to develop the overall structure of the
course/outline is created– Develop the content – Also identify dates, topics, teaching strategies,
resources, and assessment strategies.
DESIGN
• For each unit of instruction (learning module):– State the Goal of the instruction in general terms– State the specific learning objectives for the
students– State the content that will be used (documents,
PowerPoint, etc.)– State the instructional strategies– State the assessment strategies– Due dates established
DEVELOPMENT
• In the development phase:– Instructional designers and developers create and
assemble the content blueprinted in the design phase.
– Storyboards are created, content is written and graphics are designed.
– Build learning content, learning assignments, and assessments
– Identify which technologies should be chosen to enhance the learning experience.
DEVELOPMENT
– Process of producing materials needed to meet the goals and objectives.
– The delivery point should be chosen—video, PowerPoint, note, lecture, etc.
– Previous materials should be a review, not a repeat of information
– **Make the instructional coursework.
IMPLEMENTATION
• The implementation phase includes:– Testing of prototypes where training for the
instructor happens, followed by learners participating in the instruction.
– Instruction is described to the users– Test all the materials’ design to identify if they are
appropriate and functional for the learners– The person implementing must be ready to face
any problems (learning difficulties, instructional challenges, etc.)
IMPLEMENTATION
– Focuses on developing procedures for training facilitators and learners.
– The facilitators' training should cover the course curriculum, learning outcomes, method of delivery, and testing procedures.
– Student preparation includes training the use of new software and hardware, and registration.
– Preparation of learning materials (books, tools, software is conducted, and website tested)
EVALUATION
• The Final Stage--Evaluation – Ongoing throughout the design process– Consists of two parts:
1. Formative – Formative evaluation is a measurement of learning outcomes during the
instruction process.– Determines the effectiveness of each stage.– Used to monitor students’ learning.– Used throughout all ADDIE stages
2. Summative– Summative evaluation is a measurement of learning outcomes after
instruction.– Process of gathering data following information in order to determine the
effectiveness of the goal
