Securities and Exchange Commission): www.sec.gov.
ACCO 616 CORPORATE FINANCIAL REPORTING: FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS 14

financieros utilizando ejemplos concretos.

ACCO 616 CORPORATE FINANCIAL REPORTING: FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS 15

ACCO 616 CORPORATE FINANCIAL REPORTING: FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS 16
ACCO 616 CORPORATE FINANCIAL REPORTING: FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS 17

inversiones, empleando vocabulario oral correcto y apropiado.
ACCO 616 CORPORATE FINANCIAL REPORTING: FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS 27

capital.
ACCO 616 CORPORATE FINANCIAL REPORTING: FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS 29
rúbrica, bajo la semana que le corresponde.
ACCO 616 CORPORATE FINANCIAL REPORTING: FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS 30
opciones disponibles. Acceda a www.bankrate.com , seleccione "Hipotecas", luego
"Tarifas Hipotecarias".
posible.
ACCO 616 CORPORATE FINANCIAL REPORTING: FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS 31

Analytic Writing Rubric). Be sure to upload a graded copy of your essay to your
Digital Performance Portfolio.
8. Continue working on your digital portfolio; follow the instructions in the Digital
Performance Portfolio Assessment Handbook found on Blackboard.
E. Activities during the Workshop
1. The facilitator will lead the class in a review of the topics covered in the previous
workshop to ensure students’ comprehension. Students will share one concept learned
so far that has drawn their attention the most and explain why.
ACCO 616 CORPORATE FINANCIAL REPORTING: FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS 37
2. Roll the dice! The facilitator will have a box or bag with numbers, as students arrive,
they will select a number from the box or bag. The facilitator will select the first student
to roll the dice and call the number; the student with that number will explain his or her
T-chart to the class and will roll the dice for the next student.
3. The facilitator will divide the class in two groups for a debate activity. One group will
research the advantages of using debt as an optimal capital structure, while the other
group will research the advantage of using equity. The groups will then defend each of
their points of view and the class will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each
option. Students are invited to take a side they are least inclined to select, as a way of
intersecting subjective outlooks with potential learning topics. Make sure to keep the
use of correct language at all times, carefully listening to each colleague’s intervention
and building up a structured and feasible argument. The facilitator will evaluate this
activity using Appendix F (Participation Rubric). This rubric can be accessed in the
Course Menu section of Blackboard under the link titled Appendices: Language Rubrics.
4. The class will be divided into groups of three students each, to work on the following
problem:
Examine the impact of two different scenarios, adding a modest level of debt ($1 billion
in new debt) or adding a higher level of debt ($5 billion). The company would use the
proceeds to repurchase stock.
a. Go to www.nasdaq.com and enter AMZN (Amazon stock symbol) in the search. Get
the current stock price and total number of shares outstanding.
b. Click Annual Report and download the financial statements for the company.
i. Determine the average corporate tax rate over the last four years by dividing
Income Tax by Earnings before Tax for each of the last four years.
ACCO 616 CORPORATE FINANCIAL REPORTING: FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS 38
ii. Assuming the firm plans to keep this new debt outstanding forever, determine
the present value of the tax shield of the new debt. What additional assumptions
did you need to make for this calculation?
iii. Determine the new stock price if the money in debt is use to repurchase stock?
c. Calculate the current market value of Amazon equity.
d. Determine the new market value of the equity if the repurchase occurs.
e. Determine the new number of shares and the stock price after the repurchase is
announced.
i. What will Amazon D/E ratio be, based on book values after it issues new debt
and repurchases stock? What will its market value D/E ratio be?
ii. Based on the stock price, do the debt increase and stock repurchase appear to be
a good idea? Why or why not?
Each group will present their opinions and defend their points in front of the entire class.
5. The students will write a self-reflection on the apparent under-leveraging of
corporations, both domestically and internationally. The facilitator may select a different
topic discussed during the workshop. If deemed necessary, the facilitator may ask
students to send this activity after Workshop Four, but before Workshop Five/Taller
Cinco.
6. Each group will designate the leader for the next workshop and students will discuss the
activities to be completed before the next workshop.
