Family Promise Volunteer Sign up January 12-18, 2020Our Savior’s and St. Paul's volunteers will bewelcoming families withoutshelter to stay for food,

fellowship and overnight shelter at Our Saviors on January 12th-18th. There are currently

3 families in the program, 4 adults and 7 children (15, 13,12, 10, 9, 8 and 1 years old). Help us

welcome guests and live out our Faith in service to our neighbors in need.

Snow shoveling volunteers needed

All the snow shoveling and plowing around our Church, School and Early Child CareCenter is done

by dedicated volunteers. This is a huge financial savings for our congregation,as our long term

volunteers have aged and areno longer able to do it, the number of volunteers has dwindled down

to TWO! WE NEED YOUR HELP! On days when school is in session, theECC opens at 6:00a.m. so

the walks around the school need to be shoveled andsalted by then, and the parking lotcleared.

Snow removal in the parking lot is donated by Gary Flanagan. Our maintenanceman, JoeProbst,

starts on the walks by ECC, as thewalks need tobe cleared before theparking lot can be finished.

This leaves the remainder of the walks in front of the school, the city sidewalk, the main church

entrance steps, theeastwalkway adjacent to the church andthe walks in the lakesideECC play

area. All equipment (two snowblowers and shovels) is provided. We usually startaround 5:00a.m.

on school days. On weekends, the schedule is the same to accommodate all the activities, sports

events and Church Services that occur. Please contact Glenn Leidel (262-893-1518) or the church

Junior Girl Scout Blanket Drive

St. Paul’s Girl Scout Troop 2174 is currently doing a blanket drive to benefit the homeless shelters

in Waukesha, aswell as HAWS. The girls areworking on this project to complete their Bronze

Award. The Bronze Award is the highest award a Junior Girl Scoutcan earn. Please help withthis

worthwhile cause. Barrels are located inside themain entranceof the school for your

donations. This collectiondrivewill run through February 10th. Thank you for your help &

support.

Not Just Plain Water (Pastor Scharnell)

The Baptism of our Lord is an“epiphany”of the one trueGod in the fleshand blood of Jesus. He is

the chosen servant of the Lord,anointed with the Spirit for the rescueofGod’s people to “bring

forth justice to thenations” (Is.42:1). Thus, He makes all things new, andHe is given “as a covenant

for the people, a light for the nations” (Is. 42:6). In the waters of the Jordan, He takesHis place with

sinners andtakes all the sins of the world upon Himself. He undergoes theBaptism of repentance

in order to “fulfill all righteousness” for us (Matt. 3:15). He submits Himself to the curse of sin and

death in order to redeem us. Wearebaptized with a BaptismlikeHis, thereby dying and risingwith

Him, so that “we will also livewithhim” (Rom. 6:8). Indeed, all of us who are baptized into Christ

Jesus areanointed withHis Spirit and namedby His Father as beloved and well-pleasing sons and

The Fellowship of the Lamb (Pastor O’Donnell)

Sunday-in and Sunday-out, for at least 1,300years theChurch has sung various forms of “Lamb

of God” before Holy Communion. Why do we do this? The answer is both simple and profound.

When John the Baptist came“baptizingwith water” (John 1:31), his ministry revealed Jesus as

“the Lamb ofGod, who takes away the sinof the world” (John 1:29). Indeed, Jesus is “the Lord,

the Redeemer of Israel,” “his Holy One,” (Is. 49:7) the incarnate Son ofGod, the Savior not only

for Israel but also the “light for the nations”whose salvationreaches “to the end of the earth”

(Is. 49:6). He glorified His God and Father by His atoning sacrifice uponthe cross and resurrection

from the dead. According to His promise, He delivers to us the benefits ofHis death and

resurrection—the forgiveness of sins—each time the Gospel is proclaimedand theSacraments

are administered according to His command.Through the sacraments we are “called into the

READINGS FOR THE BAPTISM OF OUR LORD

Isaiah 42:1–9Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whommy soul delights; I have putmy Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry aloud orlift up his voice, ormake it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break, and afaintly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice. He will notgrow faint or be discouraged till he has established justice in the earth; and thecoastlands wait for his law. Thus says God, the LORD, who created the heavens andstretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who givesbreath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it: “I am the LORD; I havecalled you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give youas a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, to open the eyes that are blind,to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit indarkness. I am the LORD; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor mypraise to carved idols. Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things Inow declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them.”

Romans 6:1–11What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that gracemay abound? By nomeans! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us whohave been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?We were buriedtherefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised fromthe dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if wehave been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him ina resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucifiedwith him in order thatthe body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslavedto sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we have died withChrist, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ being raisedfrom the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For thedeath he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So youalso must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Matthew3:13–17Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. Johnwould have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you cometo me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfillall righteousness.” Thenhe consented. Andwhen Jesus was baptized, immediately hewent up from the water, and behold, the heavenswere opened to him, and he sawthe Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, avoice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
