FROM THE PASTOR... In our Old Testament lesson, the prophet Isaiah reflects on the ministry of the Spirit of God. He prophesies that the Spirit will be poured down from heaven and the righteousness of God will bring peace to His people. The outpouring of God’s Spirit will make the lives of His people fruiul. The Lord calls us to repent and to consider our spiritual fruiulness. In the waters of Holy Bapsm, God pours out His Spirit upon us. By that Spirit, we are given Jesus’ righteousness, resulng in lives of peace and trust forever. Genuine rest and security come from the righteousness of God. In the Gospel lesson, John reveals that Christ promises that He and His Father will come to dwell in those who hear and believe His Word, and that He will send to them the Holy Spirit as the Helper. The whole chapter centers in the promise that Christ is the One who gives the believer comfort, not only in His future return but also in the present with the ministry of the Holy Spirit. In our Epistle lesson, Paul’s wring in Romans 8, is an unparalleled presentaon of the Spirit’s work (referred to 19 mes in vv 1–27) to sancfy and keep us in the faith. There are no imperaves in the chapter, for we are led by the Spirit, not driven by the Law. God has given us his own Spirit to live within us. The Spirit helps us overcome our old sinful nature, and assures us that we are now God’s children. We, living in the old creaon but part of the new, are groaning with longing for release. The Spirit within us—a Holy Spirit in a sinful nature—is groaning with prayer that God’s will be done. Romans 8 reveals how to live righteously through the power of the Spirit. In other words, faith, not law, brings about righteousness and the Spirit, not self-effort, brings about righteous living! As these readings reveal, we are empowered to “connect people in Roselle and beyond to real, loving relaonship with God through Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit, with each other in a contagious Chrisan community, and with their calling of servanthood in the world.” Kathy Adgate Glory Alberi-Daniel Gail Baker Carlo Banducci Susan Bantz Jeanne Bemi John Binneboese Nancy Board Alex Clayton Paul Damm Deb Darby Anne DeFreece Marge Edenfeld Harold Fasse Ray Gabriel Gail Garner Joan Gulacher Verdell Hanke Rob Heimlich Greg Herner Joanne Incandella Nancy Kleiboeker Paul Kravitz Audrey Lagos Nancy Lichthardt Marty Lis Mandy Long Dorothy Ludwig Jane McGraw Ilene Medcalf Alba Meglio Cathy Miller Rob Ney Joe Pecoraro Keith Peterson LaVonne Presley Verne Reich Sandra Reid Mary Lou Roellig Norma Schumacher Bartre Sleyster Judy Smith Frank Spavone Ilse Suess Bertha Vlcek Jacob Wegner RECEIVING TREATMENTS AND/OR RECOVERING Prayer Requests may be submied by Calling Pat Nagel 630.894.3263, ext. 227 PRAYERS AND SHARING...
