CONFESSION OF SINS

M: Beloved in the Lord: let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins to

God our Father, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us for-

giveness.

C: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I

have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is

evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both

now and in eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my

Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

THEME OF THE WEEK The Lord’s justice is not something to be trifled with. The Scripture is very clear that there will come a day, the Last Judgment, when all who reject Christ will be repaid for their evil.

New Service Introduction: For the next couple months we will be introducing a new order of service entitled Divine Service I. Each week with the help of the choir and so-loists we will introduce a new part from the service. Please follow along I the bulletin or on the projection screen as we praise our Lord with Divine Service I.

M: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given his only Son to

be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and

by his authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the

Son (+) and of the Holy Spirit.

M: Lord God almighty, so rule and govern our hearts and minds by your Holy Spirit

that we may always look forward to the end of this present evil age and to the

day of your righteous judgment. Keep us steadfast in true and living faith and

present us at last holy and blameless before you; through your Son, Jesus Christ

our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and

forever.

FIRST LESSON Jeremiah 26:1-6

Early in the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, this word came from the

LORD: "This is what the LORD says: Stand in the courtyard of the LORD's house and

speak to all the people of the towns of Judah who come to worship in the house of the

LORD. Tell them everything I command you; do not omit a word. Perhaps they will

listen and each will turn from his evil way. Then I will relent and not bring on them the

disaster I was planning because of the evil they have done. Say to them, 'This is what

the LORD says: If you do not listen to me and follow my law, which I have set before

you, and if you do not listen to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I have sent

to you again and again (though you have not listened), then I will make this house like

Shiloh and this city an object of cursing among all the nations of the earth.'"

SECOND LESSON 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10

All this is evidence that God's judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted

worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. God is just: He will pay

back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us

as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire

with his powerful angels. He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey

the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and

shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power on the day he

comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have

believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.

GOSPEL Luke 19:11-27

After the announcement of the Gospel, the congregation sings:

While they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable, because he was near

Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once.

He said: "A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king

and then to return. So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. 'Put this

money to work,' he said, 'until I come back.' "But his subjects hated him and sent a del-

egation after him to say, 'We don't want this man to be our king.' "He was made king,

however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the

money, in order to find out what they had gained with it. "The first one came and said,

'Sir, your mina has earned ten more.' "'Well done, my good servant!' his master replied.

'Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.'

"The second came and said, 'Sir, your mina has earned five more.' "His master an-

swered, 'You take charge of five cities.' "Then another servant came and said, 'Sir, here

is your mina; I have kept it laid away in a piece of cloth. I was afraid of you, because

you are a hard man. You take out what you did not put in and reap what you did not

sow.' "His master replied, 'I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant!

You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping

what I did not sow? Why then didn't you put my money on deposit, so that when I came

back, I could have collected it with interest?' "Then he said to those standing by, 'Take

his mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.' "'Sir,' they said, 'he

already has ten!' "He replied, 'I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given,

but as for the one who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away. But those ene-

mies of mine who did not want me to be king over them-- bring them here and kill them

in front of me.'"

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was cru-cified, died, and was buried. If your child becomes restless, that’s okay....We love having children in worship at Zion. Feel free to step into the fellow-ship hall or to use the cry room near the west entry until your little one settles. There are speakers in both areas.

Restrooms are at the west end entry area also. Changing tables for babies are in each.

Holy Communion Holy Communion is celebrated on the first and the third Sun-days of each month (and the Mondays after). In the Lord’s Supper, our Savior offers unworthy sinners a personal pledge of forgiveness of sins through His body and blood. As He draws repentant sinners to himself, he also draws them into a special bond of fellowship with one another. In the WELS, we demon-strate this special fellowship bond in what is called “close com-munion.” Thus, if you have never communed with us before, we ask that you first speak with our pastor. He will share with you the steps toward establishing communion fellowship. Thank you for respecting our practice. Personal preparation help is found on page 156 in the hymnal.
