SEVERAL people were arrested after municipal offices, a clinic and a fire station were set alight during violent service delivery protests in Mpumalanga.Provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Gerald Sedibe, said 11 people had been arrested. Of those, four were released on R500 bail each.Sedibe said protesters set various buildings alight in Mgwenya (formerly Waterval Boven) on Wednesday."The municipal offices were burnt twice. They started burning the building on Wednesday last week, but there was little damage, which forced them to return on Thursday," said Sedibe.He said some of the protesters were found with alcoholic beverages stolen from a local

bottle store.Sedibe said the service delivery protest was related to dirty water."As police we want to condemn this criminal behaviour. There are proper channels to communicate your needs. Committing crime is not one of them," he said.

SOME 2 000 mineworkers at Dilokong ASA Metals could expect to see themselves on the job-hunting list soon as the company will be retrenching employees early this year.According to a press release by the mine, the retrenchments are due to the continuous drop in both the ore and the depleted chrome price, as well as the recent community unrest that occurred in the Driekop, Burgersfort area. “The mine is forced into a restructuring process which will cause a significant reduction in its operations, including the number of employees.“This is the result of continued work stoppages because of community unrest, general militant union behaviour by the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), which resulted in an unprotected strike since 29 October to date, and numerous Section 54 instructions issued by the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) which caused more than 15% production losses for 2015,” the mine's communication officer, Martie Kasselman, said.According to Kasselman these events have severely impacted the production volumes and profitability and are further aggravated by the continuous decline in worldwide market activity.“The current situation requires the company to seriously examine the possibility of scaling down the business considerably.“As a result of the unprotected strike at the mine, as well as the significant drop in the selling price of ore, we find ourselves in a situation where the mine will have to be put on care and maintenance.” The mine said it had commenced consultations

with organised labour (NUM) and affected employees as part of a restructuring process with the potential for retrenchments.“An estimated 2 000 employees, including contractors, will be affected by the downscaling of operations. It is envisaged that the consultation process under the auspices of the CCMA will commence shortly,” Kasselman disclosed.

“With regard to the restructuring process, the company has introduced a number of initiatives to minimise the impact of the process, among others to allow all affected employees to apply for voluntary separation packages.The mine revealed to Capricorn Voice that it is still looking at other alternatives to reduce the impact of the restructuring.NUM's regional secretary, Phillip Mankge, said they are waiting for the mine to sit with the union and reveal the reasons behind the retrenchments.ASA Metals vowed to work closely with communities where they can. “In terms of our involvement in the local community, we remain committed to make a contribution to the development of the community, subject to the necessary resources available.”

EK wou baie graag iets sê oor die hele rassisme debakel, maar ek dink wat gesê is, is reeds deur ander gesê.Kom ons lewer eerder positiewe kommentaar. Ek sien die DA wil die hele onderwysstelsel verander en selfs die ANC maak alweer ’n nuwe soortgelyke plan. Albei is op die regte spoor.Hier is my stuiwer in die armbeurs:Omskep in die groter stede en dorpe waar ’n klomp skole is, die verskillende bestaande skole soos volg binne sekere voedingsgebiede:

Een: Suiwer wetenskapskole vir begaafde leerders. Vakkeuses moet hoëvlak wiskunde, chemie, fisika, biologie, geologie, intree siviele ingenieurswese, statistiek en Engels insluit. Verplaas die beste onderwysers op dié gebiede soontoe.Twee: Taalskole wat spesialiseer in verskeie tale, kommunikasie, onderhandelinge, diplomasie, toerisme, kulture, geskiedenis en godsdiens. Ditto met die beste onderwysers.Drie: Standaard akademiese skole min of meer soos die huidige model C skole. Vier: Tegniese skole met metaalwerk, houtwerk, kabinetmakery, sweiswerk, ketelmakery, pas en draaiwerk, boukunde, skoonheid, haarkappery en duikklopwerk.Ander spesialisskole kan insluit tskole vir

rekenaarskole met programmering, hardeware, sagteware,grafiese kuns ens. as hoofvakke. Sportskole met die beste sportfasiliteite, liggaamsopvoeding, gesondheid (medies) sportwetenskap ens. Hospitaliteitskole vir sjefs, kelners, gastehuis ontvangs en bestuur, hoteladmin ens. Ekonomieskole met boekhou, rekeningkunde, ekonomie, markstelsels en verwante vakke. Huidiglik moet elke skool sportfasiliteite, laboratoria, rekenaarsentrums ens hê wat baie duur is en hulpbronne dun saai. Konsentreer daardie fasiliteite, toerusting en onderwysers in spesialis skole en ons gaan baie verder kom met ons geld, mannekrag en ons gaan beroepsgerigte jongmense produseer wat met die stres van varsity en werkdruk kan handel. Selfs die onderwysers sal di t geniet om saam met spesialiskollegas onderwys te gee aan kinders wat belang stel en talent het in dié rigtings.

Maandag het die regering afgekondig weens die vandalisme, geweld en gegil teen studiegeld gaan dit vir die ‘minderbevoorregte gepeupel’ afgeskaf word. Gepeupel het niks met klas te doen in my oë nie - dis ‘plain hooligans’. Hulle sê die ouers wat wel studentegelde kan betaal, moet maar net meer betaal. Want anders gaan hierdie multi miljoen rand maatskappy bankrot speel binne ’n paar maande. Toe ek Potchefstroom Universiteit toe was, was my ma reeds ’n weduwee. Sy was ’n blote onderwyseres. Haar salaris was power. Die bedrag was power. Ek het eers in my vierde jaar ’n motor gery. Ek het nie gaan sing soos ’n Zoeloe oorlog voor die Puk se hekke nie. Ek het die eiers op my kop (letterlik) met ontgroening laat breek- en al die ander uitdagings soos ‘n eerstejaar gevat. Ek het nie gekla nie. Dit het my ‘n sterker mens gemaak. Ek het self in matriek by die destydse Beehive koffiekroeg gewerk en by Mr Price om my eerste deposito wat toe R2 500 was te kan neersit.

Ek het by elke koffiekroeg in Potch gewerk vir vier jaar. Weereens, dit het my ‘n sterker mens gemaak. Die studiebeurse het eers in my derde jaar ingekom toe ek begin goed doen. Die eerste twee jaar het ons gekuier soos net studente kan doen. Ek het nie in die hoërskool gewag en aan die begin van my eerste jaar opgestaan en besluit ‘n universiteit moet my nou vat en klaar nie. Ek is seker dit is die meeste mense se storie. Almal het beplan. Ouers het lenings gemaak, polisse laat afkoop... maar die kinders het gaan swot. En dit was ook nie donkiejare gelede nie. Die meeste gesinne was middelklas. Daar was nie miljoenêrs nie. Baie studente het met lenings gestudeer van hul eerste jaar af. Hierdie klomp betogers wil ook nie lenings hê nie.My ouma het drie kinders deur universiteit in die 1960’s gesit op haar skamele salaris by die Handelshuis in Lydenburg. My ma vertel steeds sy weet nie hoe my ouma Bettie dit kon doen nie. Maar almal is daar deur.

Na apartheid afgeskaf is, het ek gedink dis wonderlik. Almal is gelyk. Boonop het ek self nie geweet wat in die politiek gebeur nie. Ek het nooit hierdie omgekeerde rassisme verwag en swartmense wat met baie bewyse regtig vyandig teenoor witmense optree nie.Moenie maak of ek ‘die rubriek te ver vat nie’. Almal weet dit. En almal praat daaroor. Hulle wil ons uit die land hê. Want let wel.... hierdie ‘fees must fall’ gaan net vir diegene val onder ‘n sekere inkomstegroep.In die 1990’s het my ma ook in daai inkomstegroep geval. Onthou, sy was ‘n weduwee. My ouma was ook ‘n weduwee. Maar met boeretrots het ons almal ver gekom in die lewe.

’n Pragtige silwerskoon wit geboudjie sit vir jou en loer. Dis Forkenmeat - ’n juweel van rustigheid by ’n plaasdam met pragtige hoendertjies wat om jou voete kloek. Desember was die aangewese tyd om ’n ‘roadtrip’ deur die kruinroete te doen. En lekker in die omgewing rond te ry. Toevallig het ek gehoor van hierdie lekker restaurant. Die eienaar en sy vrou, het ’n primaslaghuis - die tuisgemaakte / kaas russian (smaakontploffing) - het ons amper in ’n koskoma laat beland. Toe kom die perfekste salami en ander-lekker-goed geroosterde broodjies wat ek nog geëet het. Met dié dat die slaghuis van gehalte spreek en die klante in-en-uit-stroom het die eienaars besluit om ook die teetuin te open. So terwyl jy vir jou vleisbestelling wag gaan drink ’n koffie en geniet die ongelooflike uitsig. Forkenmeat was ’n juweel van koelte en stadig-uitasem op ’n warm somersdag. ~ Michelle Boshoff

ONS wakker verkoopsbestuurder het in Desember hierdie twee pragtige spiermotors uit die laat sestigs / vroeë sewentigs by Misty Mountain op die berg gesien en afgeneem.Die boonste een regs was in Suid Afrika bekend as ’n Valiant Barracuda met ’n reguit sessilinder van 3.7 liter en 170 perdekrag. In die VSA en Australië was die V8 soos hierdie, bekend as ’n Plymouth Barracuda of ’n Chrysler Barracuda. Alles dieselfde motor met ’n 318 kubieke duim of 5.2 liter V8 enjin (met sowat 350 perdekrag) en gewoonlik met ’n driespoed TorgueFlight ratkas of ’n vierspoed handratkas. Die rooi Chev Camaro (onder) het uitgekom met die legendariese 350 kubieke duim V8 Chev enjin van 5.7 liter en hulle het enigiets van 300 tot 400 perdekrag gemaak. Ratkaste was driespoed TurboHydramatic of vierspoed handratte. Beide hierdie motors was destyds Chrysler en Chevrolet se antwoord op Ford se beroemde poniemotor, die Ford Mustang.Beide die Camaro en Mustang leef vandag voort as van Amerika se gewildste spieremotors (muscle cars) en anders as destyds, kan hulle vandag om draaie gaan! Die ou motors op die fotos was verwoed vinnig in ’n reguit lyn, maar remme en padhouvermoë was nie hulle sterk punte nie.Die Barracuda naam het ongelukkig uigesterf, maar leef in beginsel voort in die hedendaagse Dodge Charger. of Challenger.Reinet Bell en Andre Coetzee

FORD se Figo het van dag een af uitstekend in die mark presteer, grootliks omdat dit een van die mees bekostigbare 1400 motors daar buite was, met gawe toerusting. My seun het een wat reeds meer as 100 000 km op het en foutloos presteer. Om op hierdie resep te verbeter wil gedoen wees. Wel, die Figo het nou groot geword. Luukser, moderner en duurder, is dit nie meer ’n intreevlakmotor nie. Ons het die topspesifikasie 1.5 Titanium PowerShift Auto luikrug bestuur. Die nuwe Figo is ’n mooi motor, veral voor. Die binneruim herinner aan Fiesta en dié topmodel was met alles toegerus, insluitend Ford se FordSYNC wat stemgeaktiveerde funksies vir onder andere die radio bied met Bloutand, USB, iPod en elke ding. Ons toetsmotor se lugversorging (EATC) was die beste wat ek in jare getoets het. Dit maak die motor ’n yskas! Daar is die gebruiklike elektriese ruite met bestuurder outofunksie, verstelbare kragstuur met satellietkontroles, ritrekenaar, ABS, ESP, EBD, HLA, ses lugsakke, afstandsluit en alarm. Die nuwe Figo het ’n 1.5 petrolenjin wat 82 kW en 136 Nm maak. Gekoppel aan die dubbelkoppelaar sesspoed outo ratkas, trek die motor goed. Dit is nie ’n renmotor nie, maar trek beter as die vorige 1.4. Teen 120 draai die enjin teen 4 000 opm en teen 140 draai dit 4 500 opm. Dié enjin wil hardloop!Die motor is gerieflik met baie goeie beenruimte agter. Die prys hiervoor is egter ’n kleinerige bagasiebak. Die sedan se bagasiebak is heelwat groter. Terloops die Figo is in beide luikrug en sedan beskikbaar in petrol en diesel in nie minder nie as nege variasies en verskeie mooi kleure. Op die pad ry die motor lekker. Die outokas is seepglad, hoewel bietjie lui as jy haastig die versneller inskop. Dit is baie vas op die pad en voel goed gebou. Remme, stuur en ander kontroles werk goed en lig. Daar is baie pakplekkies, bottelhouers ens. Ek was baie beïndruk met die verstelbare bêreplek vir jou slimfoon wat gelaai kan word terwyl hy in sy nessie rus. Daar is smukspieëltjies op albei sonskerms. Allooiwiele is netjies.Waarvan het ek nie gehou nie? Kleinerige bagasiebak, effe lui as jy gou wil verbysteek, harde plastiek op die paneelbord en deure maak raserig toe.Waarvan het ek gehou? Die motor is mooi, veral die voorkant wat aan Aston Martin herinner. Baie ruimte binne die kajuit met besonder goeie beenruimte agter. Uitstekende lugversorging (klimaatbeheer) op die Titanium (dit laat jou letterlik bibber).

HIERDIE is ons lank beloofde toets van die nuwe Isuzu KB 250 HO Hi-Rider 4x2 D/C. Dié dubbelkajuit is beskikbaar teen ’n besonder goeie prys. Vir daardie prys in ’n dubbelkajuit kan mens deesdae seker nie te veel verwag nie, maar groot was die verassing oor die vlak van toerusting wat as standaard beskikbaar is. Dit kom met lugversorging, elektriese ruite met een druk op en af vir die bestuurder, outo sluit as jy aanskakel, kragstuur (verstelbaar) radio / CD / met MP3 / Bloutand, iPod en USB in. Daar is twee lugsakke, ISOFIX hegpunte vir ’n kinderstoeltjie agter, dubbel paneelkissies, konsolekissie en bottelhouers in die deursakke. ABS met EBD en traksiebeheer is standaard. Die instrumentehuls bevat ’n toereteller, spoedmeter en elektroniese hittemeter en brandstofvlak meter.Daar is gewone staalwiele met bande in die grootte 245 / 70 R 16.Die bestuurdersitplek is verstelbaar vir hoogte, reik en helling.Die nuwe HO (High Output) enjin is baie stiller as die vorige 2.5 en maak 100 kW en 320 Nm se wringkrag. Die enjin roteer teen 2 500 opm teen 120 km/u en 3 000 opm teen 140 km/u. Dit is baie gemaklik op spoed en voel of dit heeldag aan die verkeerde kant van 150 sal kan toer. Vir ’n 2.5 trek dit soos ’n trein. Mens moet die kompetisie ry voor jy die Isuzu ry, om die kraglewering te vergelyk en te waardeer. Moenie net na syfers kyk nie, gaan ry die voertuig. Draaisirkel is gerieflik kort vir so ’n lang voertuig.Onthou hierdie is ’n intreevlak bakkie wat jou baie meer bied as ’n normale voertuig in hierdie klas. Ek het genoem van lugversorging, radio, kragvensters en so aan.Wat is daar om te kritiseer? Wel, die paneelbord se plastiek is hard, maar die bougehalte lyk goed en dit is ratelvry. Daar is nie smukspieëltjies op die sonskerms nie. Soos meeste moderne voertuie kom dit sonder ’n sigaretaansteker, maar daar is wel ’n asbakkie.In die geheel gesien is hierdie ’n bul van ’n bakkie, met die enjin en kraglewering in hierdie klas wat skitterend is. Grondvryhoogte is goed vir ’n 4x2 en as enigste of hoof voertuig in jou huishouding, gaan jy sukkel om dit te klop.Isuzu betroubaarheid is legendaries. Ek ry self een met 250 000 km op die klok wat 18 jaar oud is, sonder probleme.Ek kan hierdie bakkie baie sterk aanbeveel. He says this is where the services of an experienced real estate professional can be extremely important to the seller.Goslett provides a few elements that real estate agents could look at when determining the right, most competitive asking price for a home:1. Past salesOften looking at the past is a gateway into looking at the future. Looking at the sales prices of homes in the area over the last six months will give the agent some insight into what buyers are prepared to pay for homes in that area.Careful consideration will be made with reference to how long each property sat on the market, as well as how the initial asking price differed from the eventual selling price. A comparative market analysis (CMA) is the

accepted method to accurately determine a property's value. Information and statistics are gathered from various sources and compiled together to determine the average price per square metre of property in the area.By determining the square metre pricing, the agent is able to compare apples with apples. Once this base has been reached, it is far easier to give an accurate appraisal of the property, taking into consideration any other factors that might have an affect the properties exact value.These factors would include the condition of the property and its size, security features, finishes and fixtures, and any other features that could set the house apart from others in the areas.2. The market trendsWhile there are wider elements that will impact the property market around the country, such as interest rate hikes and access to finance, most micro markets will have unique aspects that influence the sale of homes in that particular area.These aspects could include new companies moving into the area or plans for improving local amenities such as parks or shopping malls. The agent will look at what is affecting the market in the neighbourhood and consider the influence this will have on the perceived value of the home. Both countrywide influences and local factors will have an impact on home's potential perceived value among buyers.3. The neighboursThe perceived value of a property has a lot to do with the area in which it is situated and the

homes surrounding the property.While a home in the same neighbourhood - approximately the same size and age - could have recently sold for a high price, if the seller's home is surrounded by rundown homes or noisy neighbours, they may not have the same fortune.Unfortunately it is largely out of the seller's hands, but the neighbouring properties can have an influence on how the home is valued by buyers.On the flipside, while bad neighbours can bring down the home's value, if the grass is in fact greener on the opposite side of the fence, it can have a positive impact on the value of the home.4.
