PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Attendance Last week our Home School Liaison Officer completed a Roll Check. It was disappointing to see the number of students that have already been absent a number of days in 2021. If your child is absent, it is important to ensure that you provide the school with a note to explain this absence. If regularly sick and under the care of a Doctor it is good practise to obtain a Medical Certificate to explain these absences. Approaching the School From time to time parents or other members of the school community may need to approach the school in order to:

Discuss the progress or welfare of your own child. Express concern about actions of other students. Enquire about school policy or practice. Express concern about actions of staff.

It is therefore necessary to have procedures that will help solve problems as soon as possible so that a safe and harmonious school environment is maintained. The best results usually flow from working together. The best education happens when students, parents and schools work together. We encourage you to contact the school to talk about your concerns, as most problems can be solved by talking to the people who best know the situation. The student's teacher is generally the best place to start. In primary school, this will be the classroom teacher. If you are unsure who to speak to, the school’s office staff may be able to help find the best person. These guidelines aim to:

provide a guide in order that concerns are dealt with in an open and fair manner. ensure that the rights of students, staff and parents are respected and upheld. support sensitivity and confidentiality. help reach an agreed solution.

CONCERN APPROPRIATE ACTION

The academic progress of your own child

Directly contact the child's teacher either by note, by phone or at an appropriate time to discuss any issues.

The welfare of your own child

For minor issues directly contact your child's teacher to clarify information.

For more serious concerns, contact office. State nature of concern and arrange a suitable time to talk with class teacher or appropriate staff member.

To convey information about change of address, telephone number, emergency contact, custody details, health issues etc. Please contact the office.

Actions of other students

Contact the class teacher for a classroom and/or playground problems.

School policy or practice

Contact office. State nature of concern and make an appointment to see the principal and/or appropriate member of staff

Actions of a staff member

Contact the teacher directly in the first instance.

On occasion, concerns may cause frustration and anxiety. At such times it is always important to organise a time to talk with school staff in an unhurried and confidential atmosphere.

Please Note. No parent should directly approach another person's child or contact another parent to discuss a school based issue/incident. The school will deal with issues between students as part of the school's Discipline and Welfare policy.

In very rare cases, where people wishing to express concerns, do so in an aggressive, threatening or violent manner, the principal (or nominee) has the legal authority under the ‘Inclosed Lands Act' to:

direct the person to immediately leave the grounds.

call the police to remove the person should he/she refuse.

withdraw future permission (by letter) for the person to enter the grounds without permission of the principal.

seek further legal avenues.

As always, I would like to reiterate to all parents that if you have a concern or query regarding your child's education please make an appointment to see the relevant classroom teacher or appropriate Executive Member to further discuss the matter. Parents are asked to address any emails to our school email address. These emails will then be forwarded to the appropriate teacher. It is important that concerns be initially addressed with classroom teachers as often issues can be addressed quickly.

Wishing everyone a fantastic week!

Order online @ www.quickcliq.com.au.

Does your child need a bag tag to help with the going home routine?

Recommend K-2 Bus travel, tag on students bags with the bus/walk and change accordingly. Also on the

bag tag could be the name/number of the bus and/or the days they travel on the bus. Tags could be

changed so staff and students are aware. This makes it more easily identifiable for the going home

procedure. A note or phone call to the Front Office is still required for any change to the going home

routine.
