Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members

Welcome to Week 3 Term 1

Our 2021 school year has gotten off to a great start. Students have transitioned into their 2021 classrooms and are beginning to settle into their new daily routines.

Attendance

School starts at 9.20am each morning with play commencing at 8.50am, school concludes at 3.25am each afternoon. In order to set your child up for success, please ensure that your child is at school on time. Being just 10 minutes late each day equates to 30 hours of school lost over the course of the year.

All students are expected to be at school every day, unless they are unwell or have an approved reason according to Department of Education guidelines. If your child or children are unwell with any flu-like symptoms, they are required to obtain a COVID test, and the results need to be supplied to the school, before they can return. All students that are absent need to return with a note explaining their absence or parents may choose to phone the office or submit an explanation via the LPS app.

Update your details

It is important that parents contact the school to update their personal information if it has changed. This is something that can be overlooked when parents obtain new phones with a phone number change. It is really important that we are able to contact you in the event of illness, accident or other school needs. Please make sure that your emergency contacts list is also up-to-date.

Uniform

We have a culture of high expectations at Leeton Public School. This extends to our school uniform. We would like to thank our community for ensuring that your students look their best at all times, by making sure they wear their full school uniform with pride every day. If obtaining the correct uniform is challenging because of your family's situation, please contact the school office.

2021 Swimming Carnival

Our annual swimming carnival will be held on Monday 15th February for all students in years 3-6 (and students turning 8 years old this year who wish to compete in 50m, 100m and 200m races). Keep an eye out for further details. This year all families will be allocated one spectator pass per family that is to be handed in on arrival at the pool. This will be in addition to anyone that receives a volunteer pass to assist at the carnival.

2021 Meet and Greet

We are still planning to have our annual Meet the Teacher evening in 2021. Keep an eye out for further details.

P&C Meeting –Tuesday 11th February – 7:30pm

A reminder to all interested Parents and Community members that the next P&C Meeting will be held tomorrow Tuesday the 11th February.

Classroom Communication

Our teachers value positive relationships with our community members. If you would like to communicate with your child’s teacher, please make an appointment or speak with them at a mutually convenient time before or after school. From 9.20am - 3.25pm teachers are committed to working with their students.

COVID Intensive Learning Program

The Department has made a significant financial investment in schools to assist students that have been impacted in their learning during the “Learning from Home” program. As a school we have committed these funds in the extension of our intervention programs, employing additional staff. This will allow us to support children in smaller, more intensive groups with a focus on literacy and numeracy.

As always, I would like to reiterate to all parents that if you have a concern or query regarding your child's education please make an appointment to see the relevant classroom teacher or appropriate Executive Member to further discuss the matter. Parents are asked to address any emails to our school email address. These emails will then be forwarded to the appropriate teacher. It is important that concerns be initially addressed with classroom teachers as often issues can be addressed quickly.

Wishing everyone a fantastic week!

At Leeton Public School we are Respectful, Responsible, Resilient learners!

Leeton Public School Positive Reward Policy

For those new to our school and those needing a reminder, below is an overview reminder of our school’s Positive Reward System. We look forward to providing recognition for lots of positive behaviours from our students in 2021.

Merit Awards (Blue): These awards are presented each week at the Monday Assembly. Aim: to reward students who have demonstrated commitment, effort and resilience in their learning within the classroom related to academic growth and achievement.

Sports Awards (Green): These awards are presented in class weekly following sport or PE lessons. Aim: to reward and acknowledge students who have been actively participating in sport, displaying sportsmanship, demonstrating skill development or achievement.

Playground Awards (Red): These awards are presented each week to acknowledge students who have made a positive contribution to the school environment and within the playground. Aim: to reward students who make valuable contributions to the school environment through behaviour (playing safely, being a good friend etc.) or school beautification or assistance (gardens, rubbish etc).

Service Awards (Yellow): The Awards presented to students who positive ambassadors for our school, representing in extra-curricula activities. These awards are presented after activities such as ANZAC Day March, Clean Up Australia Day, Choir/Dance performances in public, ‘Light up Leeton’ performances etc.

When children accumulate 7 awards they are eligible to trade these awards for a ‘Diamond Award’ which are presented at Monday Assembly. When a student received 7 Diamond Awards, they may trade these in for a ‘Platinum Award’, the highest level of achievement in our Positive Reward System. Students reaching the ‘Platinum Award’ level receive special recognition and reward from the Principal. The system is cumulative over a student’s time at LPS and recognises consistent and on-going application and achievement in all areas of school life.

For new students enrolling at LPS in later grade, the system allows for the student to receive pro-rata for the missed years, eg. A student enrolling in Year 4 it would be assumed the child would have received 4 Diamond awards and would need to collect 3 additional Diamond awards to reach ‘Platinum Award’ level.

If you have any questions about our reward system. Please give the office or myself a call.

COVID-19 Guidelines Term 1 2021

We continue to follow the appropriate advice from the Department of Education and NSW Health to maintain a safe environment for our students, staff and community. Just a reminder that all students should be learning at school unless they are unwell or have a medical certificate to support their absence. Activities permitted at school will be conducted in a way that is safe and appropriate in the current environment. Activities that remain on hold will be reviewed at regular intervals and will recommence when appropriate based on health and other relevant advice. Please see the following site for more information. https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-for-families

Visiting NSW Schools

Parents and carers are not allowed on school sites or at off-site school events held during school hours except for the following purposes only:

Essential parent and carer meetings with teachers and/or school executives, with a scheduled appointment. This includes scheduled meetings with parents and carers of prospective students.

Parents and carers who attend a school administration building or another defined location for the purpose of picking up their child if they are unwell or where they have been asked to arrange for a COVID-19 test after their child has displayed flu-like symptoms while at school.

Parents and carers who need to be on-site for canteen and uniform shop duties or to collect or purchase uniforms.

Parent or carer volunteers required as educational support roles for activities essential to the delivery of the curriculum such as reading groups, music, dance and kitchen garden areas. Schools are required to have scheduled programs in place and remind parents and carers that they must not attend school unless it has been previously arranged.

Parents and carers can attend parent orientation meetings and ‘meet the teacher’ meetings with school staff for all year/stage groups. Meetings should be limited to 1 hour where possible. A COVID-19 Safety PlanExternal link must be in place.

Parents or carers of boarding school students who would like to collect students for local activities.

From Term 1 2021, all NSW public schools use the Service NSW COVID Safe Check-in External link.

Look for the COVID Safe QR code posters when you enter your child’s school. Be sure to sign in at the school administration building according to your school’s visitor guidelines. Parents and carers who are only dropping off and picking up students do not need to check in using the Service NSW QR code.

All entry is through the School Office to complete the External Visitors to School Site Form.
