We currently need a Lecturing Knight and an Esquire. If you know of someone who might be interested please contact me. On behalf of the officers and myself, we thank you for your amazing support thus far during this transition, and your continued support as this year’s team moves forward continuing and improving on the past year of successes. Look for updates on bulletin board & facebook. I would like to take this time to thank our new PER, Steve Willams for this past year. He has done a very nice job. He will be continuing on as our Camp Barrett Rep and as our Drug Awareness Chair. We also thank the Board of Directors, (which includes the four chair officers and the five trustees), the Secretary & Treasurer, Color Guards, Committee Chairs & Members, & all our Members for a great year. SECRETARY’S SAYApril 2020/May 2020

I would like to open with a welcome to the new Lodge year and to the new Officers. Please thank them, when you see them in the Lodge, for their dedication of time and ideas to better our Lodge. Also thank the Officers & House Committee from the last Lodge year who did so much to keep our Lodge running smoothly.

Sadly, I must report that I was forced to drop 40 (as of the time this is being written) members from our roles due to a failure to pay their dues for over a year. They can, however, be reinstated until June 1st without a fee, so please try to regain them as members, so they can join in all the good we do as a Lodge & Order. I will keep the list of former Members on the bulletin board in addition to the ones who haven’t paid for this year yet.

Those of you who have paid your dues for Lodge year 2020-2021 should be in possession of your new YELLOW cards. If you are not holding a yellow Member card & door key than you’ve either discarded the wrong card or haven’t paid you dues yet. If the later is the case, your BLUE key will no longer work, since the key card reader was changed on April 1st, and your blue Membership card will no longer allow you to use this or any other Elks Lodge. If you fall into this category, please pay your dues now to avoid that embarrassing moment when you get asked to show your Membership card and yours has expired.

As before, your dues can be paid by check, cash or credit card. To use your credit card, come by the Lodge and ask the bartender to swipe it for dues or call the Manager ( Jim McNalley ) and give him your number & expiration date.

Any option that you choose, please get me the completed renewal form. This is to make sure that my computer has good information.

Any widow that wishes to have an ID card and key card must request it by sending a stamped, self-addressed envelope with a check for $5.00 to my attention.

I would like to ask all the “snow birds” to advise me when you return to the area and conversely, when you leave in the fall. It is a simple task to switch the addresses (assuming that I have your winter address) but I need to know when to do it.

I look forward to seeing you all at our Lodge.

Fraternally,Lou Schmeltzer, PDD

Secretary

horn bands of the 60s and 70s and hits from artists like Earth, Wind & Fire; The Four Tops;

Chicago; Stevie Wonder; Tower of Power; The Temptations and much more? Then you will love The NoWhere Men. Dance, have fun and enjoy a

great local band.

The members of The NoWhere Men have performed in venues with some of the legends of music, including such stars as Sam Moore (Sam &

Dave), Gary Puckett, Sy Palmer (The Drifters), The Grass Roots, Three Dog Night, Felix Cavaliere and the Rascals, Dan Akroyd (Blues Brothers), Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons,

and Kool & The Gang.

please contact me), our new Events Generating Subcommittee of the House Committee and other ideas. All are expected to be improvements to keep things running smoothly and to further our community involvement. WE ARE LOOKING TO IMPROVE ON OUR VOLUNTEER POOL. Please feel free to contact me. My door is always open for ideas, problems, etc.

Your Board of Directors, House Committee Chair, new Treasurer and myself worked out our budget for the coming year. That is not an easy job. The team worked together wonderfully and came up with a balanced budget that also improved on our charitable donations in many areas. WE ARE GROWING!!!!

We are an amazingly wonderful organization. WE DO SO MANY WONDERFUL THINGS FOR THE COMMUNITY including: aid for veterans & youth with special needs, camp for youth with life threatening illnesses & youth of wounded warriors, camping for our youth, scholarships for college & for technical schools, sports contests for youth, nationally acclaimed drug awareness & youth Americanism programs. SO MANY WONDERFUL PROGRAMS IN WHICH TO GET INVOLVED.

Please consider volunteering or Chairing with a committee, possibly taking an officer position, or helping with the kitchen, dining room, or the lounge. Give me a call, tell me what your interests are and when you are available. We will work it out. Get involved. Support your lodge in whatever way you can. Keep in mind our volunteers do a great job, and have fun and share good comradery. Thank them when you see them in the lodge, and thank Jim and the waitresses. They all have a hard job and they all do it well and always with a smile.

My focus this year is our community charities, our membership, & above all Positive Approach and Positive Outlook. Teamwork and having fun while helping our lodge & our communities is what it is all about. Compromise where needed and appropriate. Listen and care. BUT TO WALK A MILE IN MY BROTHER OR SISTERS SHOES…. I will be making some hard decisions, but my decisions will not be based on cliques, personalities, or out of emotion.

I WILL BE DOING, AFTER CAREFUL DELIBERATION, WHAT I BELIEVE IS BEST FOR THE LODGE & THE MEMBERS. I realize I cannot make everyone happy, but ultimately I have to do what is best for the lodge and its members as a whole. POSITIVE ENERGY DRAWS POSITIVE ENERGY TO YOU. We will continue positive support in all our endeavors towards the prosperity and success of our lodge and our continued work for our communities.

Per Grand lodge Statutes, Our House Committee is in charge of social events and activities. We have created an Events Generating subcommittee of the House Committee. Please continue to support our Events Generating Subcommittee, our House Committee and our Manager and his crew. They have many exciting bands and events forthcoming. They will be devoting their time to seeing that you have a GREAT time. Hope to see you at ST. PATRICKS DAY event, and BINGO..... Our Adult Easter Egg Hunt has been postponed to perhaps summer, but I assure you, it is coming back by popular demand. Come have fun with your brother and sister Elks. THIS IS YOUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME.

Please sign kids up online for Camp Barrett youth camp weeks in summer.

Make sure you consider going to our Camp Barrett picnic. Food, Soda, Beer, FUN, Daiquiris, youth & adult activities, did I say FUN, a swimming pool, music. Come enjoy a day with family and friends. You can’t beat it.

Our ELK OF THE MONTH for APRIL is JOHN MCMICKLE. He is and has been head of the Indoctrination Committee, which orients new members to all that the Elks do and offer. THANK YOU, JOHN for an excellent job. ELK OF THE MONTH for MAY is BRIGID GATENS. We thank her for her 2 years as treasurer and helping us make some transitions. THANK YOU BRIGID for taking on such a hard job.

THINK POSITIVE, ENJOY & SUPPORT OUR LODGE &

HAVE A BLESSED & BEAUTIFUL DAY!!!
