Message From the

Exalted Ruler

Marietta Murchison

The month of May has come and gone. Moth-er’s Day was wonderful with good food, friends, and family. What more could you want? On behalf of the lodge, I want to thank George Moore PER and Ike Eisenhauer PER for conducting the Mother’s Day Service.

The Flag Day Service will be held Wednesday June 14, @ 6:30 p.m. The American Legion Post 99 will be celebrating the service with us this year. After the flag service, the American Legion will be holding a flag retirement service in the backyard. If anyone has a flag that needs to be retired, you are invited to bring the flag to the service. Many of you have chil-dren or grandchildren living in the area; you are welcome to bring them as well. This would be a great history lesson for them. Speaking of history lessons, I thought I would share a few things I learned about our Nation’s flag while browsing the web.

Do you know who cut the America Flag into pieces and was honored for doing it?

Over what foreign country, did the Ameri-can Flag fly for the first time?

What is an expert on flags and their histo-ry called?

What do the color of the flag mean?

Red?

White?

Blue?

How many flags are on the moon?

A warm welcome to our newest members recently initi-ated at the May 16th meeting. Shown above are new members with their propsers: Roy Medina, *Trisha Gottschalk, *Pete Vasquez,Gonzalo Ruiz, *Frank Benve-nuto and Betty Haass. *new members

(Con’t) The next Fish Fry Fundraiser is June 23rd from 5:30 to 7:30. We always can use volun-teers...so give me a call.

The lodge initiated three new members in May. They are Trisha Gottschalk, Pedro Vasquez and Frank Benvenuto. When you see a new face in-troduce yourself, who knows you may be meet-ing your next best friend. Answers:

Elks Auxiliary News

Congratulations and good luck to all graduates and especially to our own, Chyenne & Sierra Freeman, daughters of Sonya & Ibrey Nun-ez. Both Chyenne & Sierra are graduating from H.M. King High School and were each awarded $200 scholarships by the Elks Auxil-iary.

Thanks to George Moore and Gregory Eisen-hauer for the lovely Mother’s Day service, Elks for the corsages, the lounge for the ham and to everyone who brought the great sides and desserts. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer time with our elk families and friends.

Nice backgammon, chess/checker, parcheesi and Chinese checker game boards have been purchased by the auxiliary and available for members and guests to use, help your-selves. Thanks to Charles Underbrink for vol-unteering to make shelves for the games to be displayed on in the pool room.

Safe travels to everyone attending the state convention the first of June. We will have some pictures from the convention when you get your bulletin next month.

Come join us for a meeting the first Tuesday of the month and don’t forget our social night the third Tuesday during the Elk meeting, then stay to eat “pot luck” after the meet-ing. June’s theme will be stuffed baked pota-toes. Potatoes will be furnished, bring our fa-vorite toppings, side or dessert to share with all.

The Elks will host a public fish fry fundraiser on Friday, June 23rd, everyone is asked to bring a dessert for the bake sale, the more help the better.

See you at the lodge!

Tammy Moore, President

Lodge Receives ENF Gratitude Grant

Kingsville Elks Lodge 1926 applied and was ap-proved to receive the ENF Gratitude Grant this past month. The Elks National Foundation helps Lodges serve their communities by offering $2000 Gratitude Grants. Lodges qualify to apply after meeting the Grand Exalted Ruler’s per-member goal for giving to the Foundation. In ad-dition, Lodges that exceed 15% membership sup-port this last year may be eligible for an addition-al $500 bonus. Our Lodge met the criteria! The event being planned by Co-Chairs Ode More-no and Rosie Swan will take place on June 7th and named ChickaBoom Reading Camp. We have had very good response from members, spouses, auxil-iary and community members which will definitely make our project a success. We’re excited!

ENF Programs The mission of the Elks National Foundation is to help Elks build stronger communities. We fulfill this pledge by investing in communities where Elks live and work. We provide tomorrow’s leaders, our youth, with lifelong skills; honor the Elks’ pledge to never forget our veterans; help the state Elks associations accomplish their charitable objectives and fund projects that improve the qual-ity of life in local Elks communities.

At its February meeting in Savannah, Georgia, the Elks National Foundation Board of Trustees approved appropriations and distributions for the 2017-18 fiscal year totaling $33.14 million.

The Elks National Veterans Service Commission was established in 1946, immediately after World War II, with the sole mission of serving our nation’s veterans. Though much has changed since then, the Elks’ dedication to serve veterans and military members in need has never wavered. In VA clinics, veterans’ homes, USOs, homeless shelters and more, thousands of Elks volunteers give generously of their time, ener-gy and resources to serve veterans and military members each year.
