As the 2012 holiday season ends and we enter another new year in 201want to wish every Chamber member a happy, healthy, historic, hopefu
and humorous New Year with abounding prosperity..
It is a privilege and an honor to serve as the Chairman of the Board of Drectors of the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce. Although I must say, coming in after the superb leadership of Chris Ashe is going to be a touact to follow. While we say goodbye to our longtime Chamber Boardmember, Jennifer Schinke, we also welcome returning and new Board
members Liz Boone, Susan Ross, Sonny Smith and Joe Straka. Their track records will prvide a new perspective for the Board of Directors and I am so looking forward to working them as we serve our Chamber and our membership together. For those who I have not yetmet, my name is Paula Gleason and in addition to beginning to serve as Chairman for 2013currently serve as chairperson of the Ambassador Committee and the annual Dinner DanceCommittee, and serve as a volunteer on various other Chamber committees. So based on a
strong commitment to the Chamber, it is only natural that I have chosen our 2013 Chambertheme as Building a Foundation of Commitment. The single most important factor in ansuccess is COMMITMENT. Commitment ignites action. To commit is to pledge yourselfcertain purpose. It also means practicing your beliefs consistently. I call it persistence wa purpose. The mission of the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce is to contribute to the beterment of our community by nurturing business relationships and opportunities for our mebers. Given the large number of demands placed on all of us, it is imperative to concentratachieving these most important goals and objectives. The Chamber is committed to its members because these are the people who are the backbone of our community. Their employeelive and work here. Their kids attend our schools and they are members of our churches an
community groups.
When these businesses commit to becoming Chamber members, communication is the keywith this commitment. When we support theirneeds and expectations, they in turn will support the Chamber with their business. Effectively demonstrating commitment to members to the Chambers basic principles may not be easy; the truth is demonstrating commitment hard work. The only way to achieve our reputation for commitment is through determinatiand persistence, by encouraging local business partnerships and corporate participation inChamber events and community programs. We need to more effectively encourage membcommitment to networking opportunities at Business After Hours, Ribbon Cuttings, Membship luncheons, Committee Memberships, Golf Outings, 5K/10K and the annual Dinner
Dance.
I dont want to see any more local businesses close their doors. We must continue to buildfoundation of commitment, earn that reputation for integrity and most importantly garner thcommitment of our members in return. Commitment is a two-way street. You only get it iyou are willing to give it. So make a commitment to get to know our Board, our Ambassaand our staff. More specifically, make a commitment to listen to Mayor Broda present hisState of the Village at our Chamber luncheon on January 17 at the Lisle Hilton and establiseffective networking with other members. For sure, make a commitment to attend the annuDinner Dance and Silent Auction on February 8 at the Lisle Hilton. I invite you to begin
