Purpose

To this end, the corporation seeks to be at the forefront of youth development, working with young people and their families from disadvantaged economic, social and family circumstances.

To engage in research, mentoring, education, athletics, youth employment training, transitional housing and other related projects.

History • H.O.O.P. Foundation was founded in 2008 by Rev.

Bryan C. Jones and Rev Timothy Griffith, who sought to make a difference in the lives of youth living in Inglewood and surrounding Los Angeles area.

• 10 founding Board Members joined and the organization was formed. Outreach efforts in the community helped form the strategic plan.

• Our membership has grown with volunteers from various backgrounds and areas of expertise, including: health care, athletics, employment, arts and education.

• Our goal is to continue to develop programs that benefit and inspire youth to invest in our community

In January 2007, 10 male youth from Hillcrest Continuation High School in Inglewood, CA were recruited by the H.O.O.P. Foundation to form a basketball team. The team practiced in the New Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church gymnasium. Word of mouth began to promote the activity, and over the course of the next two months the number of team participants increased to 15 and as many as 25 youth on some occasions.

The team entered the Slam-Jam Basketball Tournament in Compton, California from April to June 2007. After completing the tournament, many of the kids expressed an interest in continuing the team and Life Coaching. As others began to join, the team was divided into two age groups 18+under (Care Program) and 19-24 (Share Program).

Both teams participated in the Greater Los Angeles Narcotics Anonymous Basketball League from June to August 2007.

In the fall of 2007, the 19-24 year old team participated in the Redondo Beach Parks and Recreation Adult League. By the end of the year, the basketball program experienced as many as 35 youth participants.

From 2008-2009, the program continued to operate under the same schedule. The 18-24 team continued to participate in the Redondo Beach League, while the 18+under team participated in the Slam-Jam tournament, as well as the West Angeles Summer Basketball League. In June of 2008, the first annual H.O.O.P. Magic Weekend was held at the Watts/Willowbrook Boys_ & Girls_ Club in Los Angeles, CA. This event grew the following year, and was held at the USC Institute for Genetic Medicine. Additional events where fused into the year.

2010 proved to be the most successful year. The Pre Prom Night to Remember, June Youth Weekend , Camp Show Biz, Million Father March as well as other outtings.

The organization's Executive Board of Director consists of

Board Chairman Timothy Griffith, Secretary Dannete Wilkerson,

Treasurer Frances Jones who govern the program and monitor compliance.

There are also advisory‘s consisting of Administrators and invested businessmen and women as well as

Hershal Hunt CPA retained to monitor accounting and track funding along with Bryan C Jones (Executive Director) and Timothy Griffith Mentor and Program

Director for day to day operations.

Rev. Bryan Jones is a community leader with an established reputation for creating dynamic programs addressing the needs of underrepresented youth. He is an effective grass-roots organizer with proven ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders.

He has been an active minister at New Mount Pleasant MBC for over 10 years, and has facilitated the Youth Ministry, Young Adult Choir and other youth programs. He has nearly a decade of experience as a social worker, housing director, and counselor serving his client’s success. He serves as a role model and mentor, through his foundation and ministry. Where there is need, he takes action. Where there is success, he celebrates. As a young man he was an active gang member in South Central Los Angeles, and after facing a life-affirming event, he became a voice for a new generation of youth who seek a positive direction.

Rev. Timothy Griffith is originally from Danville, Virginia, and has lived in Los Angeles for over 15 years. As a co-founder of H.O.O.P., he draws upon his 15+ years of experience working with youth as a teacher, mentor and coach. He develops rapport and brings out the best in those he works with.

“Though Los Angeles youth face many of the same obstacles that children in other areas share, it’s multiplied times five. The foster care numbers, teen incarceration and death rates are staggering! Yet, they are some of the most talented and dedicated young people you’ll ever meet.” He seeks to further enhance the H.O.O.P. vision through creative planning and addressing the needs of youth in Los Angeles. He was recently Licensed as a Minister of the Gospel November 2010 at New Mount Pleasant MBC. He also serves as Sunday School Superintendent where he leads the youth church and Wednesday night Youth Group. His lifelong mission is to outreach to youth, and have an impact on youth services locally and nationally.

Program History: Since January 2007-present (3 years) Frequency of operation: 2 -3 hours per day; 2 days

weekly Highlights: As many as 25 youth participants

participate in athletic skills camps and travel leagues sponsored by HOOP Foundation. We also train youth to

referee, coach and train other youth.

Program History: February 2009-present (1 and ½ years) Frequency of operation: Weekly Mon-Thursday. Highlights: After-school Triple A Tutoring (Academic Achievement Assistance) program. This format institutes a triangular connection between parents, school, and H.O.O.P. in monitoring and maintaining the youth‘s progress. This program seeks to increase parental involvement and instills the village concept in helping students achieve academic success.

Program History: May 2009- present (8 months) Frequency of operation: Weekly on Friday‘s Highlights: Digital audio workshops, access to computer based recording, video workshops, where youth are able to explore with hands-on one to one mentoring.

Program History: April 2009- present (9 months) Frequency of operation: Weekly on Saturdays Highlights: In the spring of 2009, the H.O.O.P. Foundation enlisted the assistance of former World Super Bantamweight Champion Paul Banke to start a boxing program. Various trainers were utilized to train youth in the skill of boxing which provided discipline and an excellent workout for its participants.

Program History: July 2008 - present (1 and 1/2 Years) Frequency of operation: Annually / 2 hours per day; 3-4 days weekly Highlights: In an effort to aid the athletic programs participants, space was set aside to aid in the physical development of the athletes. Volunteer trainers provided assistance and information on health, nutrition and fitness.

Program History: June 2010-present Frequency of Operation: 6-week Clinic. Highlights: K Swiss, Reachable Dreams and the City of Inglewood Collaborated with HOOP to present a day of tennis instruction, food and beverages. Trainers provide instruction on techniques and tips for higher level competition.

Angeles City and County Officials, and Falcons Youth and Family Services. One focus, in particular, is deglorifying the lifestyles associated with gangs and delinquent tendencies.
