Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Eulalia Parish,

For the past five months our live streaming broadcasts of our daily and weekend Masses have been very important to many of our pa-rishioners. Our church building is now open for the 4:00p.m. Mass on Saturday and the 10:00a.m. Mass on Sunday. Since there are parishioners who are not yet comfortable coming to church we will continue to live stream. This is also important for those who are our shut-ins. I wish to thank Cheryl, Bob, and Peter who are doing such an excellent job in making this available to you. We are also looking for some volunteers who would be willing to work with them in our live streaming endeavors. A priest friend of mine has been checking out a significant number of parishes who are

live streaming and he said that we are among the best. I do look forward to the time when we can have a larger number gathered in our beautiful church for the worship of God. I want to remind you that the Sacrament of Rec-onciliation (confession) is available by appointment. I have been impressed by the number of persons taking ad-vantage of this opportunity. Also on this Sunday morning at the 10:00a.m. Mass several of our children will re-ceive Jesus for the first time in Holy Communion. Keep them and their families in your prayers.

Father John

Reopening for Mass: Our church building is now open for a 4:00p.m. Vigil Mass on Saturday and a 10:00a.m. Sunday Mass. The usual protocols will be in place. Because of social distancing there are only 54 places available in the church building. You must bring a mask with you and if possible hand sanitizer. Greeters will guide you to an available seat. Missalettes and hymnals are not in the pews because the virus can remain on them. There is no congregational sing-ing. Those receiving communion will be guided row by row, keeping at least six feet between each person. Communion is in the hand. At the end of Mass the congregation will leave the church row by row keeping social distancing. After Mass the church building and rest rooms have to be sanitized. We are still urging that those 65 and over, those with seri-ous health issues, and those with respiratory problems or compromised immune systems continue to remain at home and view Masses and worship services on social media. Signing Up for Mass: If you wish to participate in one of the weekend Masses, you may sign up on our website or call the parish office at 781-729-8220 beginning on the Monday before the weekend you wish to attend. Holy Communion: On this Sunday, July 26: There will again be an opportunity for you to receive Holy Communion following the 10:00a.m. live streaming Mass. You may come to the church building from 11:15a.m. – Noon. Confession: You may set up a time with Father John by calling the office at (781)729-8220 or his phone number at 781-369-5244. Volunteers: As we continue to open our church building for weekend Masses, we need seven volunteers for each Mass. Please call the parish office if you are willing to help. Church Parking Area: Please spread the word that our church parking area should not be used for Driver Education. Just in the last week there have been two incidents. One young person practicing turning ran up on the island in the park-ing area. On last Sunday afternoon a car went off the driveway and up onto the lawn. We had police, a fire truck, and a tow truck on the property. Thank God that no one was injured. At times there are driving lessons taking place when peo-ple are walking around the property and when a group of parishioners are praying the rosary. It can become a dangerous situation. Join Us in Praying the Rosary: During these difficult days we certainly need prayer. Come and join with a small group that gathers each evening at 7:00p.m. in front of the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in the parking area. We walk and pray the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

C A U We're getting there, one percentage point at a time, but with time running out, it would be helpful if we could increase that rate! We are now at 76% of our $123,771 goal from 188 donors. If you are able to support the 2020 Appeal, now would be a good time to do so, in view of the increased reliance on the ministries supported by the Appeal during this pandemic. The Adoration Society of St. Joseph Parish in Medford kindly asks for your help in restoring Eucharistic Adora-tion—In order to open and maintain Adoration, we need a commitment of two adorers per hour to ensure the Blessed Sacrament is never left alone. Following is the proposed schedule:

Wednesdays: Starting July 22nd from 9 am - 8 pm Thursdays: TBD (contingent on sign-ups)

from 9 am - 8 pm Fridays: Starting July 17th from 9 am - 8 pm

Lower church entrance only, 114 High St., Medford If you are interested in volunteering for a time slot, please email [email protected] or call 781-391- 1396. S B , R -

, S S Reconciliation—While there are presently no scheduled regular times for confession, this important sacrament is available by request. Simply call the parish and leave a message for Father John at 781-369-5244. Just a phone number will suffice and a message that you are calling about confession. Father John will get back to you to set up a convenient time. Baptism—Also, the Sacrament of Baptism is still avail-able for any child who is in need. Due to the safety guidelines, it would be a private Baptism limited to ten people including the priest and the child. For more in-formation, please call Louise at the office. Sacrament of the Sick—We now have a team of priests within the Archdiocese who are trained and prepared to bring the Sacrament of the Sick to persons suffering from the Corona Virus in hospitals, nursing homes, and other institutions. The way to contact one of these priests is through the local parish. Here at St Eulalia you would contact at any time Fr John at 781-369-5244 or the Parish office at 781-369-5715. Also keep in mind that there are some institutions that will still not allow a priest access to the patient.

The following passage represents how we may have encountered an individual for the first time.

He walked into the room once more. Sat again in the office chair and beckoned the secretary to send in the next person.

She knocked politely on the door as it creaked for the thousandth time, now a well-worn chime, the precursor to entry. “May I come in,” the voice from behind chirped nervously, expectant of a welcome, but charged with willingness and apprehension.

“Please do,” said the respondent in over-confident tones, while thinking “how many meetings are there going to be to-day.” The young woman sat quietly down, smiling as she did so, offering a slightly sweaty hand to the interviewer. He smiled slightly and invited her to sit.

The pause which followed seemed longer than necessary. You know, one of those pauses when someone waits for you to initiate the discussion, or a salesperson wants you to be comfortable, but also wants you to make the first move. It continued long enough to make it clear who was in control of the circumstance.

“Thank you for coming,” finally the silence was broken by the man now wanting to get the process started. “My name is Luke, Luke Harvey; I am a manager here at St. Anne’s”. He paused, then said. “Welcome.” The word stood alone, al-most lonely in its presentation as if no others were needed to place the young woman at ease.

“Thank you,” she replied. “Rebecca is my name; I appreciate the opportunity to meet.”

The two sat there for a moment, Rebecca was not sure if she should continue with her introduction or wait for the seem-ingly distracted interviewer to respond. Luke began to recognize the uncomfortable nature of the situation and turned to the resume on the table in front of him.

“Thank you, Rebecca, tell me something about yourself.”

As we read this passage, what does it make us feel? How often are we the one who feels uncomfortable in a first encoun-ter, particularly when we are trying to make a good impression? Have we always been welcoming in our meetings with others? How does this relate to my role as a Christian?

Remember the encounters in life when this has happened to you.

In Love Never a choice, Just a light in the dark which blinds all others. Showing us what was there to us to see before, Yet we remained motionless and unresponsive. Cannot say why I ignored one, And not others, Aside from selfishness, Or some other personal desire. Now, however, it becomes obvious. We cannot ration love, For if we do, it is not love, But something else. Of me. Something I don’t like at all.
