O Come Let Us Adore Him
Human beings have “created” many gods over the long span of history. But the God of Jews and Christians has been made known to us through revelation as received through Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition. When Jesus was asked by some fellow Jews what the greatest commandment was, this is how he responded:
Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God is God alone and there is no other. You shall love The Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength. This is the One God who created all that has come into being. The One God who made himself known to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The One God who performed mighty deeds through Moses and all the prophets. The One God who ruled Israel through the great king, David; and who promised that a descendant of David will arise to rule over God’s people throughout all eternity.
Jesus, himself a devout Jew, revealed God to us an almighty and all-loving Father who sent his only Son into the world so that all might have eternal life. Jesus stated clearly that He and The Father are One, that whoever sees Him sees the Father.
Jesus also promised to send The Spirit of Truth from the Father so that all his followers might be as united as He and His Father were united. The following diagram is an attempt to illustrate how the three persons in the Holy Trinity are both distinct from each other and united with each other.
