Panammox. Autotrophic nitrogen removal from leachates

A biological process for nitrogen removal in high N nitrogen wastewaters with low O.M. contents

Definition

A two stage biological process. Partial Nitritation (PN) and Anammox (Amx)

How it works

Partial Nitritation (PN):

Oxidation of 57% NH4+ to NO2-

Anammox (Amx):

Anaerobic NH4+ oxidation

Electron acceptor: NO2-

Advantages:

-40% energy consumption

No need of external O.M.
