Axillary artery Continuation of the

subclavian artery.• Begins at the outer border

of the first rib.• Ends at lower border of

teres major. • Continue as brachial

artery.

Crossed by pectoralis minor, dividing it into three parts.

Each part gives branches according its number.

Located inside axillary sheath and related directly to cords of brachial plexus throughout its course.

Superficial Veins

Both Upper and Lower limb are similar in having two superficial veins to drain their superficial structures.

In the upper limb:

• Cephalic vein Lateral

• Basilic vein Medial

Both ends into the axillary vein.

Both connected by the median cubital veinanterior to elbow joint.• This vein commonly used

to give fluids or to obtain blood sample.
