Education

Upcoming Workshops

Lone Starburst Class with Kimberly Enimo—$40

Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 9 am - 4 pm

Location: Quality Inn, 271 S. Lake Havasu Ave, Lake Havasu City Hosted by Havasu Stitchers

6 hour class / Intermediate level This is Kimberly's most popular class and it sells out wherever she teaches it. All it takes are

40 2½” strips from a purchased precut bundle or strips cut from your own stash, plus one background fabric. The diamond design possibilities are practically endless! Kimberly will

teach you how to strip-piece and cut diamond building blocks from strips using her EZ Jelly Roll Ruler with no “Y” or set-in seams. You’ll design your own unique Lone Starburst variation

quilt!

The first part of the class focuses on accurate and efficient cutting and piecing of the diamond

units; the latter part of the class will focus on design elements and the almost limitless

possibilities for designing your own layout using your diamond units. The real magic comes from the fact that the quilt is assembled with straight-set blocks, not diamond wedges or

blocks on point. This eye-opening class is for anyone who wants to create a one-of-a-kind

quilt.

Background Kimberly Enimo is the featured quilter in the February 2015 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting magazine. She is an author, award-winning quilter, designer, international instructor

and quilt judge. She has written five books published by the American Quilter’s Society, in-

cluding Modern Quilts & More, Precut Bonanza, Jelly Roll Quilt Magic, Jelly Roll Quilts & More, and Quilt A Travel Souvenir. She has also hosted four popular online courses: Amazing Appli-

qué, Magical Blocks: Out of the Box, Magical Jelly Roll Quilts, Chain of Stars Mystery Quilt, and

two Quilt-Alongs including Radiant Jewel and Spangled Stars featured on Craftsy.com! She

has also appeared on television and radio programs such as America Quilts Creatively and Pat Sloan’s American Quilting and Patchwork Radio Show. She has written many articles and de-

signed original patterns which have appeared in numerous publications, including American

Patchwork and Quilting Magazine, McCall’s Quilting and Quick Quilts Magazines, Best Modern

Quilts, American Quilter Magazine, Quilters’ Home Magazine, Japanese Patchwork Tsushin

Magazine, Down Under Quilts, Irish Quilting Magazine and Studios Magazine. Kimberly has developed a signature line of innovative tools including the EZ Flying Geese Ruler, EZ Jelly

Roll Ruler, EZ Hearts Cut Tool, and the EZ Pineapple Ruler, all manufactured and distributed

by EZ Quilting.

Kimberly is the proud member of the prestigious group of Bernina Sewing Ambassadors of

America, and has also represented Janome and Pfaff Sewing Machines . Most of all, she

loves to meet quilters from around the world and share the joy and passion of patchwork

with everyone! Website: www.kimberlyeinmo.com Email: [email protected]

PUPPY PILLOWS

Hi Stitchers,

Thank you for your response to making a special place

in your sewing room for the puppy pillow scraps. This is a great way to get more pillows for the Humane Society. I would like to just list the information again for those that

did not get to the meeting.

l. Set aside a clean container (box, wastebasket, whatev-er container) that fits near your cutting table or sewing

machine. Place a clean pillowcase inside the container with the top folded over the outside. As you get scraps of clean fabric, place it in the pillowcase. Once the pillow-

case is half full or more, pull it out and sew the top shut. It doesn't have to be fancy. Please no batting, pins, paper, or sharp objects. Bring the completed pillow to the

next meeting and i will collect them and take them to the Humane Society.

2. The size of the scraps can be 5 inch square or small-

er. They fluff up nice and make for a warm spot for the cats and dogs.

3. You can use your judgment as to how full you fill your

case. The fuller the bag, the fluffier and softer the bed. We do like to tell the Humane Society that the pil-lows are washable so keep that in mind when stuffing the

cases. A washer won't take too heavy of a pillow.

4. I want to thank you in advance for helping the animals

have a nice fluffy bed each night. This project also helps us keep our sewing rooms clean and tidy. It also helps to keep the fabric scraps out of the landfill a little longer.

SPOTLIGHT ON OUR MEMBERS

NEW GROUP—CONNECTING THREADS

Our new group, Connecting Threads, should be especially helpful to new guild members. To make it work, we need current members to sign up to be “Threaders” for a 2 to 3 month commitment.

Threaders will be the connection to help new members learn what the Havasu Stitchers do. You’ll send phone or email reminders to the newbies about classes, community outreach, coffees, parties, fabric exchange at meetings, to name just a few. You’ll sit together at the meeting, talk about what is going on. You’ll just “Be There” for the new member.

What do you think? We really do need present members to step up and help us out to make this work. Questions? Call Rita McElhinney

Introducing Holly Caruso!

I joined the Havasu Stitchers in May 2014. I’ve been quilting since

the early 1970’s. I like to try new styles and see if it is for me. All

four of my kids can sew, but only one made a quilt in Girl Scouts. I

have a niece in Oregon who is big in longarm quilting. I started

out making clothing, then moved on to home sewing. I have up-

holstered chairs, cars, boats, and our golf cart. We’ve been boat-

ing in Havasu about 11 years, and we moved here full time last

April from Huntington Beach, CA. I was born and raised in south-

ern California. We were looking for a place to retire, with lots of

things to do, great weather, and friendly people. Havasu has it all!

I also joined the Marine Corps League Auxiliary. I don't have a

favorite charity, but I like to help where I am needed.
