SERVICES

February 5

All my relations – a First Nations’

Perspective on Wholeness

Sharon Jinkerson-Brass and

Solomon Reece

Anishinabe and Tsimshian Naons

Glida and Jade Morgan

Tla’amin and Gitwangak Naons

Since time immemorial, rituals and wisdom have been passed down through generations of Indigenous people. This wisdom provides a vision of connection to all living things, to the spirit world and to all that has happened in the past and all

that will happen in the future.

Mother and son, Sharon and Solomon, will share rituals and stories that are their personal reflections of this way of being in the world.

Mother and daughter Glida and Jade Morgan will offer traditional drumming and singing throughout the service.

February 12

The Secret Life of Trees

Rev. Dr. Steven Epperson

Though we have lived with them for millennia, even now we are only beginning to understand and appreciate the hidden life of trees: how they

communicate, feel, live, flourish and die.

Consider this a Valentine’s Day appreciation for our arboreal companions and their unusually sentient and affective way of being in the world.

The Chalice Choir sings.

February 19

The Librarians of Timbuktu

Rev. Dr. Steven Epperson

The story of how a band of African librarians saved a vast collection of priceless manuscripts and books in

Timbuktu, Mali, is worth the telling.

Join us to hear this amazing tale, and with it, reflections on religion, fanaticism, culture and moral courage.

February 26

USC Canada

Rev. Dr. Steven Epperson

with Guest Speaker Martin Settle

Executive Director of the Unitarian

Service Committee, Canada.

Mr. Settle will talk about the work of the USC Canada. Their Seeds of Survival program is giving families and communities in Canada and around the world a renewed sense of possibility and

independence.

Talking Circle

Sharon Jinkerson-Brass

Following the Worship service on wholeness, Sharon Jinkerson-Brass will lead a talking circle. A talking circle is a ritual of inclusiveness and equality. Sharon encourages everyone to join the circle even those who just

want to listen.

February 12 12:45 – 2 pm

The George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project

Andrew Martin and

Peter Lipscombe

A ten-lane mega-bridge will soon replace the Massey Tunnel despite opposition from twenty-three of the twenty-four local authorities in Metro Vancouver. The provincial government announced that construction will begin before the

upcoming May election.

Why insist on a bridge that conflicts with our existing Regional Plan? Why refuse to provide any studies or planning documents to support the decision?

Andrew and Peter are Master's students and research assistants in the UBC School of Community and Regional Planning with a very interesting story to share.
