Our Universe…. Our Universe….

The universe contains around 50,000,000,000 galaxies, each of which has between 100,000,000,000 and 1,000,000,000,000 stars.

It is full of mysteriesIt is full of mysteries

Why did the dinosaurs die?Why did the dinosaurs die?

They lived on the earth They lived on the earth millions years agomillions years ago

Many years ago a comet stroke Yucatan, forming the giant crater and causing

the extinction of dinosaurs. (Image courtesy of Don Davis/NASA)

The giant Crater

This 150-kilometer-wide crater lies just off the Yucatan peninsula. Scientists calculate that it was blasted into Earth by a 10-kilometer-wide asteroid or comet traveling

30 kilometers per second -- 150 times faster than a jet airliner.

CometsComets

Comets are cosmic snowballs of frozen gases, rock and dust roughly the size of a small town. When a comet's orbit brings it close to the sun, it heats up and spews dust and gases into a giant glowing head larger than most planets. The dust and

gases form a tail that stretches away from the sun for millions of kilometers.

MeteoritesMeteoritesIt is an object that has come from somewhere in space. A meteorite can be very small or extremely large.

The SunThe Sun

The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System.

It is almost perfectly spherical and consists of hot plasma.

It has a diameter of about 1,392,684 km. It was formed

about 4.6 billion years ago

Every now and then the Sun blasts out HUGE amounts of material from its atmosphere

Blasts In the Sun or Sun StormsBlasts In the Sun or Sun Storms

The Sun can send billions of tons of particles into space.

They can reach the Earth one to three days later

August 21, 2013

The Sun's heat and radiation produce a wind called the Solar Wind.

The solar wind is made up of charged particles called plasma

Solar flares – вспышки на солнце

AsteroidsAsteroids

Asteroids are small planets. The larger ones are called planetoids

The Birth of AsteroidsThe Birth of Asteroids

Over the history of our solar system, catastrophic collisions between asteroids located in the belt between Mars and Jupiter

have formed families of objects on similar orbits around the sun.

What is an asteroid? An asteroid is a large rock in outer space. Some asteroids can be very large,

while others are as small as a grain of sand. Due to their smaller size, asteroids do not have enough gravity to pull themselves into the shape

of a ball.  Astronomers groupasteroids into different categories base on the way they reflect sunlight.
