Purpose of workshop

• Give an overview of the awards

• Explain criteria

• Give advice on putting your nomination together

• Confirm due date and submission process

Overview of awards

 Citations – outstanding contribution to student learning

• individuals or teams, full-time and part-time academic and professional

• significant contribution to student learning, engagement and/or overall student experience

• specific area (need to tell your story)• sustained period

Up to 10 Citations of $1,000 each

Teaching award

• for teachers (individuals and teams) • renowned for the excellence of their teaching (national

international profile)• outstanding presentation skills • made a broad and deep contribution to enhancing the

quality of learning and teaching at the University of Ballarat

One Award of $5,000 

Criteria

• Citation nominations must address one of the following criteria

• Award nomination must address all of these criteria

Criteria• Approaches to the support of learning and teaching

that influence, motivate and inspire students to learn.• Development of curricula, resources and services

that reflect a command of the field. • Approaches to assessment, feedback and learning

support that foster independent learning. • Respect and support for the development of students

as individuals. • Scholarly activities and service innovations that have

influenced and enhanced learning and teaching.

Advice on putting nomination together

Citations must be limited to a maximum of 4 pages• Page 1 set up your story – the nature of your work

(context), describe the students you work with, the essence of your approach

A key is to work out your citation statement

25 words (max)

Eg For effective and sustained contribution to…….

Page 2 and 3

Identify your selection criteria and nominate at least 3 to 4 themes within this criteria

• For example if you select ‘approaches that motivate, influence and inspire….’ your sub-sections for discussion might be

• Use of interactive teaching methods• Weekly quizzes and feedback processes• Use of authentic industry-based scenarios

Need 2-3 examples for each sub-theme

• If you chose interactive teaching methods as a sub-theme you need to give 2-3 specific examples

• Identify course, topic and how the interaction occurs

Evidence

• This is critical to your nomination.• You need to identity and locate what evidence you have

to support your sub-themes.

You need to try to draw upon a range of qualitative and quantitative data• Eg student performance data, surveys on satisfaction

and teaching, peer feedback, supervisor’s reports, learning outcome/artefacts……trend data is important to show sustained impact

Suggested approach

• Identify your sub-themes• Think of 2-3 examples for each• Provide evidence of the impact on student

engagement and learning

Page 4 make sure you provide a conclusion

• Your conclusion should reinforce your main contribution as set out in your nomination

• Leave the assessor with no doubt and remind them of the range of evidence you have used to support your claims

Other things you need for the citation nomination

• A reference from your head of school or director (1 A4 page max)

• The completed nomination form on the CLIPP website
