OMR

Single vs. Dual Track

Single Vs. Dual Track OMR

• Single Track OMR – Vertical Inserters: Neopost DS-62/DS-75/DS-80/DS-86 as well as competitive offerings

– Varying amount of marks on each document place in one column or “track”

• Dual Track OMR – AS-1AS/DS-86 L-5

– Same amount of marks on each document in two different columns or “Tracks”, hence Dual Track.

Single Track OMR

• All documents DO NOT have the same amount of OMR marks on them

• Absence/Presence of a Mark = machine instruction

– Absence of mark can tell the system to Accumulate the document / part of set

– While the presence of the mark can tell the system it is the last page / Insert

Single Track OMR Simulation

• The following five slides will be used to simulate an actual document run

• This mock run will only contain two different customer documents:

– One three page document for a customer that would get a “List Price” Invoice followed by

– One two page document for a customer who happens to get a “discounted Price” structure

Same Run with error

• The next five slides is the same run you just saw with a built in error

• This error is a common every day possibility in the printing process (I.e. a mark that misprints out of read area or that prints too light to be read, etc.)

• Watch for it on page 3 of 3

Single Track OMR

• All documents have the SAME AMOUNT of OMR marks on them

• Precise Mark Placement = machine instruction

– High / Low = Accumulate

– Low / High = Insert

– Etc.

the exact same amount of marks on every page of set!!!

Set is safely out-sorted to divert bin for operator inspection – NOT joined!!

Dual Track OMR

• Single Track OMR

– Varying number of marks on each page

– Absence of a mark = machine command

– Possibly susceptible to an inadvertent mark or a mark that prints to lightly (I.e. join two different customers documents into same envelope!)

Dual Track OMR

− SAME number of marks on each page

− Exact Placement of marks instructs mach.

− Absence of mark = system error / alert operator
