Transcript of Loving Our Christian Family

Explain that the truth grounding the moral obligation for covenantal love among the members of Christian families is the unwavering and faithful love of our Triune God for His people.

Reflect and realize how our families are both the source and context of our Christian moral living, moving us to respond in word and deed to our moral obligation to genuinely love and care for our parents and siblings.

Approach God with thanksgiving and praise for the gift of our families.

WE ARE OUR FAMILIES.

WHAT IS A FAMILY?

The Christian Family as a covenant relationship.

- essence of family is love not financial status, achievements, looks, intelligence, productivity or anything else.

- the love we are called to share within our family is patterned after God’s own love for us, a love that is self-sacrificing, life-giving and other centered.

The covenantal love within a family begins with the love and fidelity that the father and mother pledged to share with one another in marriage.

Every christian family is called to be the foundation of the whole church, strengthened by Christ’s teachings and examples.

Christian family, a child’s “first school of discipleship,” nourished the spiritual life of the members.

Basic community upon which society builds itself.

Family is necessary unit through which citizens are born and grow in number.

Family is the vital cell of the society because it is where persons are nurtured and trained to become good and productive members of the society.

Imagination activity: Picture your own future families. Knowing that

every family ought to be a covenant relationship, a domestic Church, and a vital cell of the society, write a letter to your “future selves” with the goal of inspiring your future selves and reminding you of the real meaning and purpose of family life.

Your letter should be computerized, written in a short bond paper, 12 font and should be address properly.
