This weekend, we celebrate the Solemnity of St. Therese of Lisieux. Her actual feast day is October 1. This year, we are also celebrating her parents, St. Loius and St. Zellie, whose 1st class relics we obtained from the Carmelite Order in Rome with the help of Michael Andrews, Chancellor of the Diocese of Lansing.

We draw our lucky raffle ticket winners this Sunday at 1PM in Fr. Murray Hall. The drawing of the raffle tickets is open to the public, and it will be livestreamed on our parish website. The you to everyone who supported the parish by selling or purchasing raffle tickets!

Happy Feast Day! Fr. John Fain

Feast Day Novena Prayer for Peace (This prayer is used by the Carmelites during the Feast Day

Novena) St. Therese, Flower of fervor and love,

please intercede for us. Fill our hearts with your pure love of God.

As we approach and celebrate your feast day, make us more aware of the goodness of God and how well He tends His garden.

Instill in us your little way of doing ordinary things with extra-ordinary love. Give us the heart of a child who wonders

at life and embraces everything with loving enthusiasm.

Teach us your delight in God's ways so that divine charity may blossom in our hearts.

Little Flower of Jesus, bring our petitions (mention in silence here) before God, our Father.

With your confidence, we come before Jesus as God's children,

because you are our heavenly friend. As we celebrate the Feast Day of your homecoming in heaven, continue to

shower roses and grace upon us. Amen

In preparation for her profession as a Carmelite nun, Therese composed several small aspirations, short prayers that expressed the deepest longings of her heart. They are simple, but reflect a soul that desires to be united with God.

O Jesus! grant me the grace in all I do to

please You alone.

Jesus, gentle and humble of Heart, make my

heart like yours!

O Jesus, I want to have joy only in You alone!

My God, I love You with all my heart.

O my Holy Guardian Angel! cover me always with your wings so that I may never have the misfortune to offend Jesus.

Our Social Ministry

October 4, 2020

Do you plan to vote? Are you registered to vote? (We all should be receiving our application to request an “Absentee

Voter” ballot in the next couple of weeks.) “If indeed ‘the just ordering of society and of the state is a central responsibility of politics,’ the Church ‘cannot and must not remain on the sidelines in the fight for justice.’ So writes Pope Francis quoting Pope Benedict XVI. As Catholics, we are part of a community with profound teachings that help us consider challenges in public life,

contribute to greater justice and peace for all people and evaluate policy positions, party platform and candidates’ promise and actions in light of the Gospel in order to help build a better world.” (The Challenge of Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, U.S. Catholic Bishops)

CREATION IS ALWAYS IN SEASON! Pope Francis said, "this is the season for letting our prayer be inspired anew,” a season “to reflect on our lifestyles,” and a season “for undertaking prophetic actions . . . calling for courageous decisions…. directing the planet towards life, not death." Pope Francis’ message,

which calls us to attend to the "immense hardship for the most vulnerable among us," is particularly relevant in the light of the coronavirus pandemic. As the world experiences deep uncertainty and suffering in the midst of a global emergency, we are called to recognize that a truly healthy recovery means seeing that “everything is connected” and repairing the bonds we have broken. We realize that we need to grow

more and more in solidarity and take care of one another in fraternity. Inspired by the apostolic exhortation Querida Amazonia, we encourage the people of God to accelerate their walks towards new paths for the Church and for an integral ecology by planning activities for the Season of Creation. These might include activities such as a special mass or pilgrimage walk, sustainability practices, or advocacy initiatives to respond to the “cry of the earth and the cry of the poor,” to take place during this special season. (Monsignor Bruno-Marie Duffé, Secretary, Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, May 24, 2020)

Would you be interested in entering into “Be The Bridge” conversations with people of color in the north Lansing neighborhood – primarily with Hildebrandt Park Housing Community beginning in October? Please respond to dave at (517) 487-0478, (517) 331-5765 or [email protected].

Our Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) RCIA Question of the Week: What is St. Therese’s “Little Way?” RCIA Answer of the Week: St. Therese believed that the people of her

time lived in too great fear of Gods judgment. The fear was stifling and did not allow people to experience the freedom of the children of God….Therese once wrote that she could not understand how anyone could be afraid of a God who became a child. She also knew that she would never be perfect. Therefore, she went to God as a child approaches a parent with

open arms and a profound trust. Therese translated "the little way" in terms of a commitment to the tasks and to the people we meet in our everyday lives. She took her assignments in the convent of Lisieux as ways of manifesting her love for God and for others. She worked as a sacristan by taking care of the altar and the chapel; she served in the refectory and in the laundry room; she wrote plays for the entertainment of the community. Above all, she tried to show a love for all the nuns in the community. She played no favorites; she gave of herself even to the difficult members. Therese’s life sounds so routine and ordinary, but it was steeped in a loving commitment that knew no breakdown. It is called a little way precisely by being simple, direct, yet calling for amazing fortitude and commitment. Her "little way " seems to put holiness of life within the reach of ordinary people. Live out your days with confidence in God’s love for you. (Rev. John F. Russell, O.Carm., Seton Hall University Do YOU believe?
