A Heart for BrokennessThe Story of One Woman’s Crusade to Stop Human Trafficking

Keri Kondracki

I am fortunate…I am blessed…I am strong…I am loved. How many of us can say these words, and believe it fully, in our heart? To admit that one is fortunate, first, they must understand and realize what it is to be less fortunate.

+ I recall a moment of extreme guilt and sadness, when I glanced out the window of a small, but comfortable plane, and saw a sea of cardboard boxes that housed millions of Indians.

It was at this particular moment that I realized all of my gifts, blessings, talents and freedoms must be used for a greater purpose…to help those in need.

+ Prague is a beautiful city!

However, beneath the gorgeous, architectural masterpieces, lies an evil world.

Between homelessness and human trafficking, Prague’s government shows a real lack of care and respect for their people.

+ The view of the PalaceUnfortunately, the government does not help their people.  There are many homeless, but no available shelters in the city.

+ During the winter, many homeless can be found outside, as there are NO homeless shelters in the city.

I have often thought of opening the first homeless shelter in Prague. I'm in touch with local government officials now, in hopes that they can connect me to the U.S. Embassy of Prague.

+The world of human trafficking and exploitation of women and children also involves children as young as 13 years  of age.  Most of them are locked in these buildings, with no hope of ever getting out.

+Even though brothels are said to be "illegal," police stations often share the same building space, creating speculation that it's more convenient and beneficial to "look the other way."

+ Victims of Another Kind

While touring in Prague, I noticed that there were African men who came out to the corners of every block of Wenceslas Square.  Hundreds of these young men flock to the corners in the square and direct traffic to the "hidden" brothels.  They are rewarded $5.00 per sale.

A brothel out in the open…

Traffickers usually travel to poverty-stricken countries, offering opportunities for "legitimate" work.  Once the young girls leave their families, they realize the work is not legitimate at all and it's too late to return home.

My passion is to reach victims of human trafficking

My desire is to give them hope for a better future

My goal is to establish a safe haven for these young victims to seek refuge
