GEPS-Connects Open Days
Part of our plan to connect better with our parents is to hold more open days. This week, Stage 1 classrooms were open for parents to see how their child learns to read.
We love having parents come up to our school and watch a reading group or learn the importance of independent reading. Do you know what “back-to-back and knee-to-knee reading” is??? Ask your child!
Thanks, teachers!
Happy Book Week! I hope you have been enjoying the Book Week festivities—I loved tricking people on Tuesday with my outfit (photos later in this newsletter!).
Here is a lovely photo taken yesterday which shows the power of a book:
Thanks, Mrs Delvecchio!! PS. Book was Pig the Pug
Super-duper NAPLAN results! Our NAPLAN results go home today to students in Years 3 and 5. Congratulations to students—and remember that these results are a snap-shot of one test—they don’t reveal your creativity, insight, thinking, compassion, perseverance or spark!
Having said that—look at some of our Year 3 results:
• Percentage of Year 3 students
achieving in the TOP 2 bands for Reading was 33%;
• Year 3 in the TOP 2 bands for
Writing: 43%!!
• Year 3 kids in the TOP 2 bands for
Spelling—35%
That’s over one third of our Year 3s making it to the top 2 bands—and 96% of those kids came to school in Kindy with limited English language. W O W!

Proud

Students were asked to write down some things that they were proud of. We scrunched our pieces of pa-per and placed them into our proud popcorn boxes.
We then shared some of our proud moments with our buddy classes!

3/4HR is buzzing with Olympic Madness! Students have been using their maths skills to work on an exciting project about the
Olympics!
Working in small collaborative groups, students have been applying their skills of data collection,
graphs, position, angles and 2D shapes to research several countries that have participated in the
recent Olympics held in Rio.
