A KING, A QUEEN & EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN
Holding your special day at Addington Palace will guarantee you a unique wedding venue that is steeped in history
1544Henry VIII sold Addington Park Estate and manor house to Sir Nicholas Leigh. This original medieval Manor House in Addington Village became the Leigh family residence for 200 years
1770-1778Barlow Trecothick, Alderman of London and Lord Mayor in 1770-71, purchases house and land & employs Robert Mylne to design and build a grand Palladian mansion. After his death in 1775, the Mansion was completed by his nephew James Trecothick, who later employed Capability Brown for extensive landscape works.
1807-1898An Act of Parliament was passed allowing the purchase and upgrading of the house for the Archbishops of Canterbury as a country residence. Thus 6 of the archbishops of Canterbury resided at Addington Palace. Despite opposition by Queen Victoria herself, the Estate was sold in 1898 to wealthy diamond merchant, Frederick English
1953Venue used as The Royal School of Church Music (RSCM)
1996Became a popular wedding, conference and banqueting venue.
2002Banquet for HM The Queen and HRH Prince Philip during the Golden Jubilee Celebrations
1900-03Frederick English employed renowned Scottish architect Norman Shaw to undertake extensive improvements on the Mansion including adding an extra floor to accommodate the magnificent Great Hall
A VENUE FIT FOR A QUEEN
Addington Palace hosted a banquet for the auspicious Golden Jubilee Celebrations for HM The Queen and HRH Prince Philip in July 2002. With 300 guests in attendance, the ‘great and the good’ were treated to a culinary masterpiece here at the Palace. With Champagne and Canapés served to her Majesty and Prince Philip in the Great Hall followed by a banquet for the esteemed dignitaries in the Royal Pavilion it was a truly spectacular occasion fondly remembered by all lucky enough to be in attendance

THE GRAND STAIRCASE
In front of the present Library is an imposing Georgian staircase crowned with a glazed cupola constructed in a light-well in the Mansard roof. This staircase designed by Norman Shaw replaced another designed by Robert Mylne. The earlier staircase was likely only accessed by servants going upstairs to their quarters.
THE WINTER GARDENCeremony Capacity | 150
This Pavilion was originally designed as a Smoking Saloon for the gentlemen, but was later converted into a Winter Garden or Conservatory, probably by Archibald Howley. This bright and airy room now functions as our dedicated ceremony room seating up to 150 guests
THE GARDENS
The parklands surrounding Addington Palace were enhanced by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown, a renowned English Landscape Architect of the 18th Century credited as "England's Greatest Gardener". His works are highlighted on the terrace by a majestic 250 year old Cedar of Lebanon Tree

THE GREAT HALLCeremony Capacity | 300
This magnificent hall is the work of renowned Scottish Architect Norman Shaw. We're undecided whether his centrepiece is the beautiful alabaster and marble chimney piece or the magnificent brass French Chandelier. Equally impressive are the walls adorned with silk coverings and the beautiful hand-carved architrave
Richard Norman Shaw | 1831-1912
THE MORNING ROOM
From 1778 this room was named the Parlour and from 1835 the Morning Room. Its purpose from then till now remains the same. It was a room with its sole intent to receive guests visiting from afar. A great gambit for reception drinks and canapés
THE ROYAL PAVILION
The Royal Pavilion is ideally suited to larger numbers, catering for up to 800 guests. It is fully integrated with its own bar & kitchen, bride and groom changing rooms, and luxury toilets. For warmer weather there are landscaped garden and terrace areas perfect for reception drinks
