Sue Says… “Excitement to Come”
The summer months are in full swing now and with the recent high temperatures we’ve
had, the pools seem to be the place to be. Our celebration for the Independence Day Holiday
Weekend involved a lot of fun activities for all, but the highlight had to be the fireworks display
put on by Mike Curran, Bill Prahler and David Bott along with music accompaniment pro-
vided by David Phelps. Thanks guys; great job! Hopefully everyone will have the opportunity
to enjoy some leisure time with friends and family during these “dog days of summer.”
Mike and I are always looking for new and different ideas for fun and entertainment at
Southwoods RV Resort and the following are a few things to look forward to in the coming
months.
We are excited to introduce a couple of first-time events in August and September
for our Southwoods campers, as well as a new purchase that will add to the intrigue and
festivities throughout the month of October.
The first is a Teen Weekend on August 5th - 7th that is sure to be a big hit with our
FABULOUS teens who camp here. There will be several, special activities planned for
teens only (ages 13 - 17 years) all weekend long— including a campfire, mini-golf tourna-
ment, wagon ride, pizza & wings party, dance, swim night and a Worship Service for eve-
ryone (all ages) but with a teen focus and involvement.
On September 10th there will be a Chainsaw Artist demonstrating his carving
skills for our observation and entertainment. He will have some of his works on display for
sale in addition to taking orders for pieces that you may wish to commission.
Lastly, our Spooky, Haunted House will scare the tar out of you— if you’re brave
enough to venture into it! The haunted house will be open each weekend in October so make your reservations now to camp at Southwoods…………. if you dare!

How to Submit News Items
E-mail me at: [email protected]. Or place your news items in the lock-box in the Game Room labeled “Newsletter Contributions.”
The DEADLINE is the 10th of every month. If you’d like this newsletter sent to you electronically as a pdf file, I’ll need your email address. Advantages of getting your newsletter via email:
it’s in COLOR; you’ll receive it faster; saves paper & printing costs for the campground; you can run off as many copies as you like on your own
printer and/or forward it to your family & friends. I promise no spam (junk mail), just this newsletter.
Groundskeeping at your Site
Just a reminder that if you are not able to get out to your site at the
beginning of the season— or anytime— to please make arrangements with a
neighbor / friend / relative to mow your lawn.
It can get pretty long and scraggly looking in a short time, and reflects
negatively on your neighborhood as well as the whole park.
Thank-you.
To Parents
With the advent of summer and school being out of session,
there is more time for kids and teens to enjoy being at camp. All kids
under the age of 18 need to be supervised. If parents need to go to
work and can’t be here at camp, you must make arrangements for
another adult seasonal to be guardian of your child/children while you
are away.
Mike and Sue need to have in writing, along with signatures
from both the parent and guardian, that the guardian is willing to take
responsibility of a child or teen while the parents are away. Anytime
a parent is away from camp for whatever reason and leaves a child/
teen, this needs to be done. In case of an emergency, we need to
know whom to contact; this information is kept on file in the office.
Thank you.
Swimming Pool Reminders
A reminder that everyone 17 years and younger needs to have a par-
ent or guardian with them at the pools.
Unfortunately, we’ve had to ask several teenagers to leave the pool a
few times already this year because there was no adult with them. These were
teens of seasonal and monthly campers.
Because we have no lifeguard on duty we have to abide by the rules
set by the Health Department and our insurance company, or we may lose the
privilege of having swimming pools available.
Also, please remember that there is no jumping into the pools or run-
ning on the pool decks as both are safety hazards.
We want everyone to enjoy the pools so please respect policy and
follow the rules. Thank you.
To Pet Owners
Please clean up after your pets, even if you walk them thru
the woods or maintenance field. Take a bag with you and clean up
after them and dispose in the garbage dumpsters only.
Mike and Bill frequently work in the woods and the mainte-
nance areas ,and would appreciate everyone being respectful and tak-
ing responsibility for their pets.
Thank-you.

A Heartfelt Thank-you! Contributed by: Beverly Reed
Dave and I would like to thank Scott & RoseAnn
Bensley, Steve & Linda Czerwinski, the Byron Ambu-
lance crew, and the medic from Mercy Flight, as well as all
our Southwoods’ family for your help, support, kindnesses
and prayers at the time of David’s stroke.
He was taken to the hospital in time for the clot
buster to be administered, which prevented long term con-
sequences. As we have often heard, “Time is of the es-
sence” when it comes to getting medical attention quickly.
A month has passed, and Dave is doing very well.
Thank-you, everybody!
Thank-you, Contributors!
Thank-you this month to: Jennifer Manley, Bill
Stevens, Beverly Reed, Patricia Pimm, Lindsey Fabian,
Ed Beenhouwer, Steve Swiatowy, and Sue Curran.
As always, every entry is very much appreciated.
Without your input there would be no newsletter!
Generous Donation Contributed by: Sue Curran
Thank you so much to one of our regular camper
couples, Ken & Phyllis Romano, for donating the lovely
insulated casserole carrier that was raffled off on the July
4th Weekend.
Sue Ott, a newlywed, was the lucky winner and
I’m sure she’ll get lots of use with it through the years.
Susie, you can think of Southwoods whenever you use it,
as well as this generous couple who donated it to us.
More Thank-yous Contributed by: Sue Curran
On Saturday, June 25th at coffee & donuts, I was presented with a lovely sympa-
thy card and a very generous donation from all of you seasonals in memory of my mom,
Peggy Ingersoll. Needless to say, I was deeply touched and my heart is full of love and
thanks to all of you. Mom loved trees, so later in the fall Mike and I will pick out a nice
strong oak tree and plant it somewhere in the park along with a park bench to go under it.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and generous deed.
Yours truly, Sue Curran

Pancake Breakfast
The Bensleys, Scott & Roseann, do
a tremendous job catering the Mother’s and
Father’s Day Pancake Breakfasts at South-
woods RV Resort. As you can see in the top
photos, they have lots of help in the
“kitchen.” There’s even more help making
those delicious pancakes disappear, as evi-
denced in the lower photos. I heard that no
one left hungry. Thank-you to all who as-
sisted and participated that day.

This year’s Cruise-In boasted 18 vehicles. Our own seasonal,
Dick Exton, received the most votes earning him the trophy for Best-of-
Show. (See photo on Page 4.)
Joan Stevens and Candie Meier sold 50/50 tickets netting about $190 each for the winner (Colby Sanner, see photo on Page 4),
and the Southwoods Activities fund.
Steve Swiatowy volunteered to help out at this event. In
addition to passing out door prizes (two Napa gift certificates),
collecting votes and awarding the trophy, he also acted as photog-
rapher and captured all the lovely images featured on this page.

Niagara Casino Trip Contributed by: Ed Beenhouwer
There were 50 of us on the 2016 casino trip. As
in years past, everyone had a good time. Of course there
were some winners (though nobody real big), and most came home about even which makes it a successful trip
all around.
Third Annual Bake Sale at Southwoods Contributed by: Lindsay Fabian
A huge “thank-you” to all who participated in the
Third Annual Southwoods Bake Sale. This was our best
year yet, with a total raised of $277.25. Thank-you, thank-
you, thank-you!
Special shout-outs go to Chris Foley, Brianna
Birch, and George & Christina Fabian who went above
and beyond, each providing a multitude of items. By the
time the sale started, all the empty space on the counters
were filled full of goodies.
Funds from the sale are used by the Activities
Committee to provide activities and supplies for some of
the things we all enjoy here at Southwoods.

First Mini-Golf League Game Contributed by: Patricia Pimm
The first Mini-Golf League game of the season was not a
wash-out for most of the team. However, the same can not be said for
those who picked the short straw and teed off last. Bringing up the
caboose for the day are Vern Schneider and Lynn Richardson, ever
so slightly drenched.

Papertole Picture of Southwoods Store Front Contributed by: Sue Curran
I am still in awe of the lovely, thoughtful and creative gift that Cheri
Beenhouwer presented me with this month.
The picture of Southwoods store front was made by her over the six win-
ter months that she was in Florida. It’s a papertole picture with unbelievable di-
mension and layer upon layer of tiny detailed paper. She took a photo of the pic-
ture, made at least 10 copies and then proceeded to cut the items out of the copies
with an exacto knife and glue them onto the original picture in layers. It’s incredi-
bly detailed and dimensional. There are layer upon layer (10 at least!) of the
shrubs and flowers and everything.
This photo does not do it justice; it’s just so intricate. You will have to
see it in person to really appreciate all of the care and hours that went into it.
I can’t believe she’s giving it to me after all the work and effort that went
into it. Cheri must really like me a lot! I feel so blessed and lucky to have such a
lovely, thoughtful gift from such a lovely, thoughtful friend! Simply amazing!
Hopefully everyone will stop into the office and see it’s delicate detail in
person. I’ve hung it under the clock behind the desk for all to appreciate.
