From the Pastor’s Desk: “Breakthrough To Easter”
On April 17th the movie “Breakthrough” will premier in theaters. It is a Christian film produced by 20th Century Fox and DeVon Franklin based on a true story. It is a miraculous story, John Smith, a High School basketball star fell through the ice on a
small pond while having fun with his friends.
I was able to attend a pastor’s preview of this movie in February. There are so many ele-ments of faith in this film. Perhaps the greatest miracle highlighted in this movie is seeing how when God’s people pray, heaven and earth are moved! The secret is found by praying into the
power of the resurrected Christ.
In John 12: 24 Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a seed; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”
In order for there to be a resurrection from the dead, someone or something has to die. What would happen if we allowed something in us to die so it can bear new life?” How might this
church be different if we prayed for a breakthrough in our vision for ministry?
Last Sunday we were visited by Rev. Randy Blanchard, our District Vitality Specialist who challenged us to pray and seek God’s will as we ask a similar question. Randy also invited us to pray each day at 3pm and listen for the Lord’s answer about areas of ministry God wants to break-
through so there will be new life at Mt. Carmel.
Please join us each Sunday as we begin our “Breakthrough” Worship Series in April and discover what resurrection possibilities are available to us when God’s people pray. On Palm Sun-day, April 15, the children will help us breakthrough the doors to announce the King of Kings in coming near. (There will be an Easter Egg Hunt for our kids that same day at 10am). Our adult choir perform a musical in the 11am service. On Wednesday of Holy Week, we will have the op-portunity to view this movie together as a congregation at the AMC Classic Hanes 12 theater dur-ing Holy Week on Wednesday, April 17th at 7:00pm. Keep posted in our weekly bulletin or on our
Facebook page to pre-order you ticket. This film is suitable for all ages.
On Thursday, April 18 we will be having a Maundy Thursday service at 7pm. On Friday, April 19 participate in the Cross Walk with us on Good Friday at 10am beginning at Oak Forest UMC in Midway. On Sunday, April 21, join us at the Sunrise Service at 6:30am and our Easter
Celebration at 11am on Easter Sunday.
I believe God wants to do a new thing among us. Let’s experience a breakthrough in our faith this Easter! Happy Resurrection Day! -Pastor Mary

Jackie Ruark Burgess Clinard April 13, 1934—March 24, 2019
Jackie Ruark Burgess Clinard was born on April 13, 1934 to the late Will Henry and Ruby Burgess and went to be with Jesus on March 24, 2019. She was wife to Floyd Clinard, who proceeds her. She was a pre-
cious and devoted mother, grandmoth-er and great-grandmother to Cindy (Lin) Jones, Tammy Moore and Marty (Ann) Clinard; Johnathan (Aubrey) Moore and Amy Moore; McKenna, Haven and Coben Moore. She gladly welcomed step grandchildren Hollie Burroughs and Hunter Aldridge to her family. She was the youngest sister to Jewel, Horace, Walter, Hazel, Reid, Reba and Melba. She was the last of the Burgess era, and now they are all reunited. She has several nieces and nephews and dearly loved them all. She overcame many adversities in her life. Growing up she enjoyed play-ing basketball at Griffith High School and riding horses. She was blessed to have many cherished and faithful friendships, most beginning in child-hood. The family is so grateful for her loving caregivers, Lucy Tenney, Sandy Horney and Deb Lewis. She was a woman who taught her children and grandchildren the love of GOD, as it was most surely shown through her. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Unit-
ed Methodist Church and attended as long as her health permitted. A funeral service was held at 2:00 PM on Wednes-day, March 27, 2019 at Mt. Carmel Unit-ed Methodist Church with The Reverend Dr. Mary Miller and Rev. Jim Allred offici-ated. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 4265 Ebert Rd., Winston Salem, NC 27127.
. On April 4, Pat Wade will be back with her fast piano playing fingers and wonderful voice. We look forward to hearing her again. Please bring a friend or 2 with you; they will be glad you invited them! We will take Pat to lunch afterwards, if her sched-ule allows. See you soon! (Maybe it won’t be raining that day! LENTEN DAY APART Our Lenten Day Apart has been can-celed. Our next meeting will not be until Sep-tember.

Some of you who are “new comers” to Mt. Carmel may have wondered what is the ARK doing in our narthex. Many years ago this church began col-lecting coins (and dollars!) for an organiza-tion called the Heifer Fund. This is an in-ternational group which raises money to assist others in the poorest areas on the earth to improve their lives by a variety of faming methods. They provide animals such as cows, chickens and pigs along with assistance to provide the education needed to successfully maintain their animals as well as profit from them. Our ARK was constructed by a long time church member, A.G. Kiger. During the month of April we are have a contest to select which animals we will pur-chase through the Heifer Fund. And we while we are focusing on our children. EVERYONE is invited to vote and contrib-ute. Drop coins and dollars in the ARK itself or the collection plate being sure to designate ‘Heifer Fund’ on the envelop. Magazines are provided for your interest. Thank you.

Graduation season is almost here! If you will be graduating from high school or college, we need to know! We are excited for you and wish to honor all the
graduates during our Graduation Sunday, May 19 at the 11:00 am worship service. So we don't leave anyone out, please con-tact our church office (336) 788-4183 or have a family member contact of the office by May 12 to give us the graduate’s name and what school or college they are gradu-ating from so we can accurately honor your achievement. We also would like to know if you are going on to higher educa-tion, and if so, where you will be attending. So please inform us so we can include that information in the bulletin insert for that Sunday. You are all important to us! Please leave this information with our sec-retary, Joanne Spetz. (Watch for further details.) This is a miraculous true story of a mother’s faith
and her son’s resurrection. John falls through an icy Missouri lake one winter
morning and lays lifeless for m ore than sixty minutes and his mother, Joyce, musters up all her faith and strength into force and cries out to God to save him. Miraculously, her son’s heart imme-diately started beating again and walks out of the hospital under his own power, completely healed.

How to Be Happy
Psalm 146
Everyone wants to be happy, Many people have failed in their quest to find that elusive prize, however, because they have been looking in the wrong plac-es. According to:
Proverbs 16:20, “Blessed is the one who trust in the LORD.” And today’s text indi-cates that happiness comes to those who find their help and hope in God. The foundation n for happiness is a proper relations with the Lord. But to fully experi-ence that happiness, we must build on that foundation in practical ways. I found this list of “Ten Rules for Happier Living,” which give us some excellent guidelines.
1. Give something away (no strings attached.)
2. Do a kindness (and forget it).
3. Spend time with the aged (experience is priceless).
4. Look intently into the face of a baby (and marvel).
5. Laugh often (it is life’s lubricant).
6. Give thanks (a thousand times a day is not enough).
7. Pray (or you will lose the way).
8. Work (with vim and vigor).
9. Plan as though you will live forever (you
will).
10. Live as though you will die tomorrow
(because you will die on some tomorrow)..
Thank you Marilyn Patterson for singing with us in the Praise Team on March 24th. Please keep the praise team in your prayers. We have had several members recovering from surgery, illnesses, and injury. If you would like to help out in the praise team like Marilyn, please contact Steve Sink our Morning Praise Band leader in our 8:30am service.

Connor Hayes was awarded the James “Doc” Bennett Award for his participation, advancement, scout spirit and
commitment to scouting. He received this plaque that was hand carved by Mr. Bennett before his passing and another leader took it upon himself to gift Connor with a bolo that was also
carved by Mr. Bennett.
I know I say it a lot, but I’m so crazy proud of this kid! He has dealt with a lot of “junk” that would make most kids run screaming from scouting, but he’s not only persevered but kept his honor in the midst of it all. He has learned so much from his years in scouting and I’m so thank-ful his hard work and dedication have been recognized. He has a great team leading his troop
now! Thank you Brenda, Mike and Gary for all you do for these boys. Onward to Eagle!

The children's Sunday School class was caught practicing Bible Bowl questions in preparation for their con-test on March 30th. They challenged the Disciple Bible class to go head to head with them on Family Feud Fifth Sundays. Will your Sunday School class be next? Read your Bible just in case! Leslie Olmstead, Karen
Sizemore, Ann Farthing, and Monica Stewart are the Children's ministry leaders.
Barry Newberry completed the Men's Walk to Emmaus and Beverly Miller and Linda Faber completed the Women's Walk to Emmaus in March. They joined together for a follow up gathering at Wesley Memorial
UMC in High Point on March 23. Ask them what those 3 days meant to them.

The UM Women celebrated our 150th birthday as an organization with a party at the church on Sunday, March 24. Our District representative Kathy Smith from Oak Forest UMC joined us. We shared about the many projects our UMW have done throughout the years. You are welcome to join one of our two circles. Faye Kiger Circle meeting will be held on Thursday , April 25 at 1:00
pm and the Amy Shields Circle will meet on Monday, April 22 at 7:00 pm. Both meet in the Parlor.
We were few on Tuesday, March 26 but we were mighty! We missed all who weren’t there! The study of Romans was
a great study!
Two dogs decided to attend both worship services on Sunday, March 24. They seemed friendly and we hope they didn't inconvenience anyone. The trustees think they belong
to someone who lives nearby. Let's pray for the opportunity to meet their owner and invite him/her to church. But how
wonderful that all creatures of our God and King were made to praise the Lord!
We were blessed to have Rev. Randy Blanchard our district vitality specialist speak in both worship services on March 24th. He will be coaching our pastor and Vision 2020 team on how we can grow new disciples in the next 18 months. Randy challenged us to pray each day at 3pm to hear God's voice in the direction we
should go. Blanchard preached on Luke 13 - the parable of the fig tree- which Jesus says that we need a change of heart and mind to follow God or the garden will die. Blanchard said that we need to be the church that takes the ball and runs with passion. It is time for Christian's to play offensive instead of defensive as we win
people for Christ. He also called one of our youth out of the pew, Carlacy, and asked him to remind our church to pray for God's will not our will to be done. The Vision 2020 team is led by Saundra Little. They will be meeting monthly to prepare and plan a church readiness survey to be taken among the members the week
after Easter.
We had a good turnout for a reunion lunch and welcomed three persons who attended the Walk to Emmaus in March: Barry Newberry, Beverly Miller, and Linda Faber. Our guest speaker was Dale Pfieffer. He shared how much the Walk to Emmaus 3-day retreat changed his life's mis-sion. We were happy to meet his wife and good friend Thomas. Also Randy Blanchard stayed
after church to join us. Mt. Carmel's Emmaus reunion group meets on the 4th Sundays at 12:30pm for a snack lunch and time for prayer and discussion about our walk with Christ. If you
want to find out more about it please contact Ferlin Frye or Karen Sizemore.
