DeKUT at Nyeri Central Prize Giving
Dedan Kimathi University of Technology Vice Chancellor Prof. P. N. Kioni con-
gratulated the students from the Nyeri Central Region of excellent performance
in all subjects including Sciences and Mathematics. During his address as the
Chief Guest, Prof. Kioni said that DeKUT is contributing to the rise of education
standards in the Nyeri County through a pool of international and local exper-
tise.
During the ceremony, issues of drug and substances abuse were named as a
major hurdle to education in the area. Apart from drugs, insecurity and cases
of theft in schools have been a hell to school managers.
Nyeri Central Sub-County hosts 18 public and
seven private secondary schools. The schools’
Principals were praised for the development
of academic and co-curricular programmes
that are improving performance.
Area Sub-County Director of Education, Law-
rence Karuntimi said the government is com-
mitted to providing quality education and im-
proving service delivery in both primary and
secondary schools.

Dedan Kimathi University has been on the forefront of promoting Science, mathematics and
Technology in Nyeri County. On 15th June, 2014, Prof. Ndirangu Kioni was hosted as a chief
guest during the closing ceremony at the Annual Science and Mathematics Contest at
Kagumo High School.
Prof. Kioni, encouraged all the participants to excel in not only arts and languages but also
Mathematics and Sciences. During his address he congratulated all the boys and girls that
sailed through to the finals and emerged the best during the SMAT Contest. Prof. Kioni also
promised a token of either a partial or full scholarship to the best student in science or
mathematics when they join Dedan Kimathi University of Technology.

The first ever rugby seven-a-side tournament in the wider
Mount Kenya region was played at Dedan Kimathi University
grounds on 14th and 15th June, 2014.
