    Eyewitness

    to the Wild

Everyone is a hunter. The motivation to get in touch

with the wilderness and its laws is deeply entrenched

in human nature. But hunting is still much more than an

experience driven by instinct. We have a clearly defned

mission demanding frst-class training and equipment.

Hunting provides us with an opportunity to interact

with nature on an intimate level, and to intervene in a

thoughtul and targeted manner, thus reecting passion

    and responsibility.

    Evolution o the Lens

Every optical system rom Carl Zeiss combines the broadest

spectrum o amazing innovations: their scientic expertise

and technological implementation are as inspiring as the vis-

ual power they produce. Carl Zeiss has taken the calculation

o lenses to the next level. The development o new types o

glass and coatings has enabled optical systems to achieve an

even greater resolution and brightness. At an early stage all

glass types containing lead and arsenic were replaced by envi-

ronmentally riendly ones. Lenses are also continually becoming

lighter and slimmer. Today, the FL concept by Carl Zeiss is at the

    peak o this development.

    Amazing Brilliance

For a long time, the image quality o optical units suered rom

the act that the lens only allowed part o the incidental light to

reach the eye and scattered the other part back in the orm o

refections. This was the case until the 1930s, when a scientist

rom Carl Zeiss coated the outside surace with a layer o metal

fuorides. Carl Zeiss was the rst optics manuacturer to coat

lenses and thereby minimise stray light and disturbing refec-

tions. The coating process also helped to considerably increase

the light transmission and image brightness at twilight. ZEISS

optics transmit a crystal clear image that is unrivalled right up

to the last light o day.

    Sustained Values

All over the world, passionate hunters and those who

are inspired by nature equate the name ZEISS with high-

perormance optics that remain reliable even under ex-

treme use. The visual experience perected by Carl Zeiss,

blends innovative unctions with detailed workmanship.

    Skilled Cratsmanship

    and Optical Harmony

It is the emotional actors which extend the value o ZEISS optics

ar beyond the technical specications. Perected ergonomics,

design elegance and comortable handling make comort a vis-

ible and tangible experience. Suraces are easy to grip wherever

secure hand contact is required. The superior workmanship can

be elt in the smooth and high-precision operating elements.

To ensure this ne-tuned quality, much o the nal assembly is

    completed by hand.

    Durable Companions

When used outdoors, rough handling o the optical device must

always be expected. Carl Zeiss lens systems are designed or

strenuous use. The same applies to the body and non-sensitive

suraces. Furthermore, nearly every unit in the new generation

is lled with nitrogen to eliminate ogging. ZEISS binoculars and

spotting scopes are lightweight, compact and extremely dura-

ble. Their long lie and resilient perormance make them very

    reliable companions.

    Clear Vision at All Times

As with the surace o the lotus lea, the LotuTec

coating on objective and ocular lenses ensures

that the water is repelled immediately and without

residue. Thus dirt, grease and ngerprints can easily

be removed with no risk o damaging the high quality lens.

Maintaining optical devices with LotuTec is extremely eort-

    less.

Brilliant Viewing in all Weather Conditions

Carl Zeiss has brought the experience o an impeccable view

to perection regardless o the weather. Even in heavy rain

LotuTec coating guarantees a perect vision.

Nature is a ascinating system. In a sustained process o

optimization, it has shown capabilities we can only ad-

mire or in act try to imitate.

Lets take the lotus lea, or instance, which instantly re-

pels water drops avoiding smudges on the surace.

    With LotuTec

Imitating the lotus lea protection, ZEISS

    LotuTec lenses repel

    water drops. Dirt and smears

wipe of easily. Neither water nor

    dirt sticks to the surace.

    Without LotuTec

As with most leaves, moisture and dirt par-

ticles concentrate on the surace o the lens.

ey connect with the texture and broadly

    cover the surace.

    Razor-Sharp Details

Above: View through a standard lens. Chromatic aberrations reduce

sharpness and contrast. To point out the efect the illustration is

    slightly exaggerated.

Below: e efect o the FL glass is to minimise the extent to which

the colour spectrum ans out. us contours are practically ree o

chromatic aberration and have a high colour delity distinguishing

    ner details.

    The FL Concept

The ZEISS FL optics have dened new standards. At the heart

o the high-perormance concept is an outstanding lens struc-

ture based on high-perormance fuoride glass or FL or short.

Thanks to this unique construction, the observer perceives al-

most no chromatic aberrations in the image. Enjoy the rich di-

versity o nature up to the smallest detail: In conjunction with

the Carl Zeiss T* multi-layer coating, the FL lenses provide im-

pressive image brightness and perect contrast.

    Uncompromising Visual Experiences

In the process o developing the FL objective lenses, our Carl

Zeiss optical engineers have consulted the most demanding

users experiencing a vast range o extreme situations all over

the world. In order to provide unlimited visual pleasure all day,

no matter the lighting conditions, intererence actors such as

straylight or refexes have been gradually eliminated.

Rich in detail and ull o stunning contrasts,

nature provides a east or our senses. The

ZEISS FL concept ascinates by unsurpassed

bright images and brilliant image sharpness.

The ability o FL lenses to show even the fnest details

    Light Impact

    Special Glass for Brighter Images

Carl Zeiss successully combined glass types which optimise

the way the light is reracted and thus avoid disruptive devia-

What enables an optical system to display a bright, high-

contrast image over great distances? First o all it has to

manage the prevailing daylight as eectively as possible,

then eliminate any kind o intererence. With ZEISS rie-

scopes, innovative glass types, elaborate coatings and an

advanced optical system is key to the visual experience.

    Innovat ions Set New Standards

    Accurate Shooting over

    any Distance

The Victory Varipoint technology sets the standard in

hunting practice. The illuminated dot counts amoung

the fnest and brightest on the world market. Combined

with the bright, high-resolution imaging perormance, it

provides the perect base or successul hunting even

when the going gets tough. Throughout the wide feld

o view, which has been developed to ulfll the highest

requirements, every detail is displayed razor-sharp.

With the Varipoint rifescope range, Carl Zeiss was the rst man-

uacturer o hunting optics to implement an illuminated dot or

day- and nighttime hunting. It can be dimmed precisely and au-

tomatically adapts to changing lighting conditions, like ading

daylight.* The reticle concept V69 allows the hunter to select

between two reticles on two dierent image planes in one ri-

lescope. Thus he can respond fexibly to any hunting situation.

Sae benchmark: With high magnication, the magniying, non-

illuminated crosshair helps to estimate the distance. With increasing

magnication, the illuminated dot becomes ner.

The double reticle 60 is based on two reticles in two im-

age planes, which are perceived as one single reticle. The

non-illuminated crosshair in the frst image plane and

the illuminated dot in the second image plane are both

visible. The particularly large exit pupil additionally sup-

    ports rapid and sae shooting.

The pure dot reticle 0 is the perect choice when opti-

mum overview and rapid aiming are essential. The fne,

sharp illuminated dot does not magniy, thus providing

    only miminum target coverage.

    Reticle 60

    Double Reticle for Maximum Versatility

Clear advantage: With low magnication, the bright illuminated

dot in the second image plane is dominant supporting quick

    and intuitive shooting.

Perect view counts: The reticle 0, which is reduced to the

bright illuminated dot, provides a ree eld o view supporting

Flexible when hunting at night: e hunter has the choice o illumi-

nated dot or cross. e constant measurements o target coverage

    the shooting distance.

    Victory Varipoint with

    Flexible as Never Before

First and second image plane, illuminated dot and illu-

minated cross in one riescope the reticle V69 quickly

adapts to any hunting situation. Depending on the ligh-

ting and hunting situation, the reticle that is best suited

can be selected easily and quickly. Thanks to its constant

measurements o target coverage, the illuminated cross

in the frst image plane provides a sae eeling or the

shooting distance and magnifcation. The fne Varipoint

dot in the second image plane supports accurate aiming

    with minimum target coverage.

Unsurpassed when hunting in daylight: e ne Varipoint dot

in the second image plane supports rapid shooting. With a small

maginication, the crosshair in the rst image plane is minimised,

thus covering less o the target.

    Operating the V69

The combined switch and control button, which is known rom

all Varipoint illuminated reticles, is pulled out as usual to acti-

vate the illuminated reticle. By twisting the button, the illumina-

tion intensity is adjusted and the preerred reticle type dot or

    Coupled Functions

Ready for Shooting with just One Turn of the Hand

Launched by the two innovation leaders Carl Zeiss and Blaser,

Illumination Control (iC) represents a technology connecting the

control o the reticle illumination to the operation o the rife.

A sensor in the eyepiece recognises the position o the cocking

slide and then automatically regulates the switch-on/-o unc-

tion o the Varipoint illuminated reticle.

    Faster Reaction

    More Operating Safety

Whether stand hunting when game suddenly appears or shoot-

ing moving game: when overwhelmed by exciting moments

switching on the illuminated dot and thereore the chance

to hit is easily missed. Thanks to the innovative Varipoint iC

concept cocking the rife and activating the illuminated reticle

merge into one process. Rife and optics are ready to shoot with

    a turn o the hand.

Pushing the cocking slide o the R8 orward just beore the shot is

released: e rie is cocked whilst at the same time the illuminated

dot is activated with the light intensity that has been adjusted

    beore.

Pushing the cocking slide o the R8 backwards: e rie ist decocked

    Focusing on the Target

    A More Relaxed Shooting Preparation

Beore the decision to shoot is made, various actors have to be

balanced in a quite short period o time: Can the game be shot?

Is it the correct target butt? And so orth. High demands and a

lot o pressure usually dominate the situation. With iC, opera-

tion process o rife and rifescope merge beore the shot, thus

supporting both concentration on the target and relaxation o

the body. Movement behind the rife which is particularly cru-

cial when shooting at short target distances is reduced to a

    minimum.

    Comortable

    and Ecient

    The Practical Solution

Forgetting to activate the illuminated dot is a thing o the past,

even when being under great pressure. The shooting hand

stays on the pistol grip and the guiding hand does not have

to be pulled away rom the stock anymore to turn on the il-

luminated reticle on the rifescope. Shooter and rife orm a unit

at all times. Lethanders will be particularly pleased with this

innovation because they no longer need to deal with operating

the illumination o the reticle via the rifescope.

The decocking o the R93 resp. R 8 iC causes the illuminatedreticle to switch o, which noticeably enhances the lie-time

o the battery. The manual operation o the switch and control

button still remains possible without cocking the rife. The plus

in saety and comort turns the new Varipoint iC concept into

one o the most innovative rifescope lines o today.

    Accurate Aiming

Precise Adjustment of the Shooting Distance

Holding over with shooting distances exceeding the zeroing

range oten is based on estimation and makes it dicult to ac-

curately hit the target. Aiming exactly at the point where the

shot is supposed to hit the target results in the most accurate

shot. Thus the ASV provides maximum accuracy even over

    longer distances.

Operating the ASV is particularly easy and quick. The handy

ASV ring is positioned on top o the rifescopes turret. The de-

sired position is adjusted by pulling out the ring and twisting it

with precise clicks. Depending on the rifescope model, every

click changes the elevation adjustment o the target point byone centimetre on 100 metres. Once the hunter wants to shoot

the regular distance again, the ASV can simply be returned to

zero thanks to the locking mechanism he can do this blindly.

e ASV is adjusted by pulling out, twisting and pushing down

the ASV ring. anks to the secure locking o the ring, the ASV is

    Select ing the ZEISS Binoculars

    Dierent Perspectives

The binoculars range rom Carl Zeiss covers a wide spec-

trum o uses and preerences. The guide on this page

provides support in decision-making when selecting the

    appropriate type o binoculars.

    The Twilight Glass

Lens Diameter from 50 mm on up

The right choice or hunters who mainly stalk or stand hunt

game when it is most active in the twilight. On long ap-

proaches, there is a risk that the weight o this high-perorm-

ance optics system will be elt. However, with the use o the lat-

est materials and innovative types o glass, the twilight glasses

by Carl Zeiss are among the lighter representatives in their class.

    Pocket Binoculars

    Lens Diameter 20 25 mm

These are ideally used as spare binoculars or daytime stalking

and can also be carried in a jacket pocket or eld work, excur-

sions in the countryside or dog training. The pocket binoculars

also bring the observer closer to the action at cultural or sport-

    ing events and on trips.

    Compact Binoculars

    Lens Diameter 30 35 mm

For physically demanding hunting pursuits, when every gram

o equipment counts and luggage volume is restricted. Com-

pact binoculars are up to 300 grams lighter than all-purposebinoculars.

    All-Purpose Binoculars

    Lens Diameter 40 45 mm

For the hunter who is looking or a powerul all-rounder, all-

purpose binoculars provide the perect balance between handy

design and high transmission values. They are destined or ac-

tive hunting in terms o weight and size. At the same time, they

provide the best conditions or observation in any light even

    in twilight.

    55/90

    51

    Magnication

The rst, smaller gure in the model reerence species the

magnication actor. For all-purpose hunting use, a actor o

7 10 x is ideal. The greater the magnication, the better suited

the binoculars are or detailed observation over long distances.

However, with this, the image steadiness and the size o the

    eld o view are reduced.

    Lens Diameter

The second gure in the model reerence species the lens di-

ameter. The bigger it is, the brighter the image and twilight

perormance. O course, the overall external size and weight o

the binoculars increase with large, powerul lenses.

    Good view, steady image:

At 8 x magnication the eld o view is

wider and shaking is reduced to a mini-

    mum.

    Image brilliance even at twilight:

Large lenses intensiy the last daylight

and may even be used or observation at

    nighttime.

    As close as it gets:

At 10 x magnication the smallest detail is

seen and the image section decreases.

    Image brightness ades with daylight:

Smaller lenses ofer a lower twilight

    perormance.
