Meet Your New Friends!
DanielaAge: 14Destination: Malta
Daniela is an energetic,
sports-crazy girl from Lugano,
Switzerland, where she lives
with her parents and older sister,
Sara. She loves to spend her
days down at the beach with her
friends or family, snorkelling in
the bright blue sea. She’s super
excited about studying English
in Malta, mostly because the
island is full of beaches for her
to try. Daniela has a thirst for
adventure and loves to spend
hours exploring.
Her main goal this summer is to
make as many new friends as
possible from all over the world!
She’s proud of what her sister
accomplished by going to EC
London and Montreal, and she’s
hoping she can have the same
kind of success.
Omar Age: 10Destination: Los Angeles
Omar is a clever kid from
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and
he’s the youngest of three
brothers. Despite his age, he’s
already obsessed with all things
technological, and dreams of
being a coding genius. He’s
popular with his friends at
home, but needs to build up his
confidence to speak English and
make new friends abroad.
Omar wants to go to university
in the USA one day, so UCLA
in Los Angeles is the perfect
place for him to have his EC
experience. This is where his big
brother, Ibrahim, studied and
Omar is looking forward to doing
all the things his brother did, as
well as visiting Universal Studios
with his new friends.
AkioAge: 15Destination: Montreal
Akio is an outgoing, friendly
teenager from Osaka, Japan,
who loves animals and dreams
of becoming a vet who travels
the world helping all kinds of
animals. When he’s not playing
with the family dog or his
brother’s cat, he spends his time
practising gymnastics – he’s
been training for more than five
years, and his brother Kenta is
his biggest fan!
Akio is going to learn English in
Montreal this summer, and he’s
excited to see the world-famous
Cirque du Soleil perform in their
home city. He hopes that by
improving his English, he’ll be
able to study about different
kinds of animals and travel the
world with confidence.
AnaAge: 12Destination: Brighton
Ana is a bubbly bookworm from
São Paolo, Brazil, who loves
writing short stories and plays
in her free time. Her creativity
doesn’t stop there – she’s never
without her camera because
she’s a great photographer,
always on the lookout for that
next perfect shot. She can’t wait
to arrive in colourful Brighton
and share photos of the quirky
seaside town with her older
sister, Júlia.
Ana dreams about becoming
a famous author one day, and
wants to learn English so that
she can express herself in
more than one language. She
is excited about her summer
in Brighton and hopes she will
make loads of new friends.

XingHan Li, 15, from China

Tomiris Tulegenova, 12, from Kazakhstan
“The teachers and staff are kind and helpful. The students are great. I’ve improved my English skills as well as making several friends here. I enjoyed my experience in the EC Cambridge Summer Programme!”
Elisa Brunelli, 16, from Italy
“Staying here was very nice and I’m sad to be leaving! The campus is huge and spacious and I like how the accommodation and rooms are designed, they’re nice and cosy and the beds are very comfortable. Lessons are really fun but at the same time you learn new information - they don’t let lessons get boring. All the staff members are really nice and funny, and they take health and safety very seriously.”

Learning and Life Skills Our goal is to make sure you receive the skills you need, and that you learn those skills in a way that works best for you.
We’ve done a lot of research to find out exactly what our Young Learners look for when studying abroad, and to understand how students today want to learn. Our courses are created by curriculum design specialists who make sure that you receive top-quality learning methods and resources throughout your EC experience. Your success is always our top priority, and we want to teach you the skills you need to succeed in the future, both professionally and academically.
That’s why in addition to teaching you language skills, we teach you life skills. Our research shows that students like you want and need these skills to achieve your goals and reach your fullest potential in life, education and work. Our curriculum designers and teachers make sure that your subjects are interesting, useful and relevant to the world you live in today. This year, we’re offering a unique set of Premium Programmes (see page 17), designed to set you on the path to professional and academic success.

LearningThe learning experience at EC is more than studying the grammar, vocabulary and expressions you need to pass your next test. Your teachers are dedicated to helping you use English with fluency and confidence. You will receive the attention you need and be encouraged to participate in class. Your teachers will use a range of tasks, both individual and in group work, to help you improve your English, increase your confidence, and become fluent across the four core areas: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening – all while learning some serious life skills too! Your lessons will be interactive and linked with activities outside the classroom so that you use and practise the skills and language you learn each day.
General EnglishAll our programmes include a course in General English. The minimum length of the course is one week.• Lessons per week: 20 lessons (1 lesson = 45 minutes;
15 hours per week)• Students per class: Maximum 15
SuccessAt the end of your EC experience, you will receive an official EC certificate that proves you have put in the right amount of effort and hard work to complete your course. You will go home with greater confidence in your abilities, improved fluency in English, and the core skills you need to succeed in a global community.
Life SkillsThink of these skills as a set of very important tools you can use to meet any of the challenges or demands of day-to-day life, now and in the future. Our Young Learners curriculum is built to teach you English while helping you to develop these four essential life skills:
1. Critical ThinkingThis is the ability to analyse and evaluate a problem or situation in an objective way. Using critical thought, you will be able to form stronger arguments and come up with better solutions.2. CollaborationThis is an important skill to have at school and at work. Being able to collaborate effectively means working together and cooperating with others to create something or tackle a problem. 3. Creativity Creativity is the act of turning your imagination and ideas into reality. It’s the ability to think about and see things differently so that you can express yourself in new, interesting ways. 4. Communication The ability to express yourself and share ideas in a clear, effective and constructive way is a priceless skill that will take you far in life. Get ready to conquer the world – one conversation at a time!
PlacementOn your first day at EC, you’ll have time to settle in and take a placement test to find out your current level of English. This test determines your proficiency and helps us to place you amongst students at the same level and ability so that you will feel comfortable expressing yourself and participating in class.

Rise and shine! Get ready for another fun-filled day with your friends.
Walk to school with friends.
Time for class! Today’s lesson focuses on communication skills, so your teacher starts the day with the vocabulary and grammar you need to have a structured debate. Who will win?
The class is divided into teams so the debate can finally begin! It’s time to put your new skills into practice.
Leave school and head to today’s activity – shopping at Camden Market and a trip to Madame Tussauds Wax Museum!
This is the perfect time for a Skype call home to tell your family and friends what you’ve been up to today!

The Next Steps
Daniela
After her fun-filled summer
abroad, Daniela returned home
with more amazing memories
than she could count! She made
loads of friends during her time
in Malta, and now has a new
best friend, Cagla, who’s from
Turkey. They text each other
every day. She also practises
her English with her sister Sara
whenever she calls home.
Omar
Omar loved every minute of his
time in Los Angeles. Being at
UCLA gave him a little taste of
what it would be like to study
in the USA, and as his English
improved, he built up the
confidence to make new friends.
He can’t wait to visit the country
again with his big brother
Ibrahim so that the two of them
can do all things American!
Akio
Akio enjoyed being surrounded
by nature and visiting the
Montreal Biodome where he saw
all kinds of different animals.
He finally got the chance to see
the amazing gymnasts perform
at the Cirque du Soleil, and he
made sure to take a few videos
to share with his big brother,
Kenta, so that he could practise
his English and his gymnastic
skills when he got home.
Ana
Ana took photos from the
minute she set foot in Brighton.
She felt so inspired that she
actually wrote a whole story! She
wrote the story in Portuguese
first, and with her EC teacher’s
help, she started translating
it into English. She sent the
English version to her sister Júlia
who is super proud of how well
Ana has improved her English.
