Connection Type with Field Wiring
Variety of Field Connections– Weidmueller (pressure clamp) terminals: Most
popular in Europe and the same as PLCs’ terminals
– Dedicated terminal boards with M4 screw terminals, connected by KS cables: Same as Yokogawa’s traditional style
– MIL connectors: Popular in low-cost installations.

Isolation Type
System-to-signal isolated, channel-to-channel isolated– Mainstream in Yokogawa’s industrial products
(high noise immunity).
System-to-signal isolated, channel-to-channel non-isolated– Equivalent to the present multi-point I/O
module; suitable for monitoring points.
Non-isolated– Mainstream in competitors’ products (low-
cost solutions for users).

Installation Environment
FIO can be installed closely near field devices to reduce wiring cost.– High speed remote I/O node can be used.
(10Mbps)
FIO node comforts to NI (Non-incendive) of CSA standard at Class 1, Div. 2 and environmental standard ISA G3.FIO node is complied the Type N of CENELEC Zone2FIO node can install the place with the wide range temperature (-20 deg C to 70 deg C) FIO modules with built-in Barrier.

FIO Node in Explosive Area
At original, FIO node had been already complied the Non-incendive of CSA standard at Class 1, Div. 2.At R3.03, FIO node is conformed to its compliance with the Type N of CENELEC Zone2.– You can put FIO remote node at Zone2 area.– You can connect Type N devices to FIO nodes
directly.

FIO with Built-in Barrier
For the application with Zone1 or Zone0 areas, the intrinsic safety installation is often required.– 3’rd venders’ barriers or BARD have been
adopted for each channels.
At R3.03, we provide the new I/O modules with built-in barrier.– Total installation cost can be reduced.
•External barriers are not needed.•As FIO nodes can be put on Zone2 areas, field wiring
cables can be shorten.
This is the world-first solution of redundant IS.

Redundancy
All I/O modules of FIO can be configured duplex.– Duplex configuration of digital module is
available.– Redundant sub-system (serial
communication) is available.– Yokogawa provides world first redundant
FOUNDATION Fieldbus solution.

Redundancy
“Redundancy” and “Dual” are different.“Redundancy” means much more than “Dual”.– Redundant control means “non-stop control”
mechanism under any hardware troubles.
The essential elements in “Redundancy” include:– Duplex hardware– Real-time abnormality detecting– Seamless switching– Hot swapping modules

Replacement capability
FIO have two types of digital modules– It is general to supply power outside from
I/O module.– ST cards and RIO digital modules can supply
