25 th June 2015 Dear Parent/Carer, Year 7 Wider Learning Week Monday 6 th July – Friday 10 th July 2015 Wider Learning Week provides enriching learning experiences in familiar and new contexts. Activities will challenge students and promote a wider understanding and independence. It is also to reward students for their hard work this year. Please be aware that, for the duration of this week, the school day will change - school will start at 8.45am and finish at 2.45pm. This is to provide time for staff to set up these activities, and to allow students to register in their activity groups. Below outlines the exact nature of the week for your son/ward: On Monday and Friday, all of Year 7 will be following the same activity: DAY ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION NOTES Monday Dragons Den A ‘Dragons Den’ style challenge day against all other tutor groups N/A Friday Engineering challenge A challenge day based on engineering/technology, competing against all other tutor groups N/A On the following days students will rotate activities based on their House: ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION NOTES BRUNEL SHACKLETON TURNER Science exploration Three different science challenges involving sports drinks, chemical reactions and flight N/A Tuesday Wednesday Thursday London museum trip Day trip to Science and Natural History museum Fully supervised trip to both Science and Natural History Wednesday Thursday Tuesday Health day A day exploring healthy eating and exercise Students to arrive in PE kit Thursday Tuesday Wednesday Key points: School Day starts 8.45am and finishes 2.45pm (likely to be 3:00-3:30pm for the museum trip) Full school uniform, except on health day (PE Kit) Packed lunch needed for London museum trips (FSM students will be provided with one) We look forward to a fun and rewarding week. Normal school rules apply all week; if any students do not follow these, they will be removed from the activities and conduct independent work.
